Spencer went up to check Adelaide’s injury. 

But Reginald stepped forward, cleverly cutting off Spencer’s 

chance to approach Adelaide, and coldly said, “Zayne’s 

kidnapping of Adelaide has only one purpose, to make Adelaide 

the scapegoat for the Hicks Group’s tax evasion.” 

“Sir Pierce, isn’t this a coincidence?” 

Finley didn’t realize at first that Zayne kidnapped Adelaide to 

use her as a scapegoat? 

Spencer frowned, “Mr. Thorton, Mr. Patel’s actions were 

questionable, but my son and I had no idea.” 

“Tonight I was taken away openly at the former university 

teacher’s house, Mrs. Schmitt can testify. Later I escaped and 

was rescued by a couple, who can also testify, and the police 

have captured footage of me being chased by Zayne along the 

way. Dad, I don’t know what’s going on with the company, but I 

was kidnapped because of the company, you can’t just ignore 

this, right?” 

Adelaide was publicly pressuring Finley. 

How could he possibly not care?

“You’re not kidding, how could Dad not care about such a big thing?” Finley said with a serious face. 

“That’s good.” Adelaide wiped her tears, her crying becoming 

more pronounced. “At that time, Zayne threatened me. He said 

if I didn’t agree to be the scapegoat, he would have people gang 

up on me and take videos to threaten me. So, Dad, I just want to 

ask you. Was it Zayne who did all the tax evasion for the 

company?” 

“Did he really dare to threaten you with this?” Spencer’s dark 

voice sounded like he was about to explode with anger. 

The police cleared his throat and brought the conversation 

back: “Sir Pierce, as far as we know, the allegations of tax 

evasion against your company have just been proven to be 

baseless. But if the suspect did such a thing, it seems like there 

might still be an issue with tax evasion in your company.” 

“The auditors from that side are on their way, I’m afraid your 

father and son need to go to the office again.” 

Upstairs, Amanda and her daughter were so scared that they 

didn’t dare to breathe. 

The sounds in the living room, they heard loud and clear. 

Jeanette’s face had turned pale, she was completely at a loss. 

Just got back, how did I end up in this mess again!

She was so caught up in the chaos, she didn’t even notice 

Amanda’s almost predatory expression. 

She actually managed to escape! 

That loser didn’t succeed according to plan! 

She was so pissed off! 

Adelaide didn’t have to go to the police station. She could just 

wait until Zayne was found, then go. 

Sitting in the car, her situation was like night and day compared 

to at the Pierce’s place. 

If Adelaide hadn’t given Reginald a heads–up beforehand, he 

would have definitely doubted her attachment to the Pierce 

family based on her crying face at that time. 

Reginald said, “They were just fine for tonight, but they will be 

taken away tomorrow.” 

This was just Reginald giving them a chance to relax, making 

them think everything was fine. 

But he really didn’t expect Adelaide to personally take them 

back.

shudders at the thought of those terrifying few minutes. 

Reginald reached out and touched the back of her head, “You 

were very brave tonight.” 

After finding out who kidnapped Adelaide, Reginald rushed 

over non–stop, afraid that something unimaginable would 

happen if he was late. 

Adelaide’s self–rescue made him see her in a new light again. 

She was a precious rose raised by the Pierce family, but 

overlooked the fact that roses have thorns.
