Opening the private room door, we were greeted by the aroma of grilled meat

Ethan was very capable. He rolled up his sleeves and started grilling, knowing I liked spicy food, he made sure to add extra spice for me

Just as my face was turning red from the spiciness, the door opened and a waiter brought in over a dozen bubble teas

It was the first time I felt bubble tea tasted so good

Biting on the straw, I quietly asked him, Hey, aren’t you afraid that what he said was true? What if I’m deceiving you?”

Ethan cut the grilled meat and put it in my bowl, confidently saying, Even if you are, so what? I’ll give you enough love and money. Even if you don’t love me now, I believe you will in the future.”

It sounded like something a domineering CEO would say, but it resonated with me

I liked him, but not to the point where I couldn’t live without him yet

He helped me find myself and understand what love really means

The end of the year was the best time to boost performance. Knowing I wanted to focus on my career, Ethan accompanied me in working overtime every day

The best thing about working here was that the more effort you put in, the more rewards you got. I had originally planned to save up for a car down payment next year, but

now I had enough money for it. Just thinking about it made me incredibly happy

During lunch break, while I was looking at cars, Jack sent me a text message

I glanced at the long message but didn’t bother reading it

I remembered how he used to post my pleading messages for reconciliation in their group chat for everyone to mock me. I wouldn’t do the same. It wasn’t about being noble, I just felt it was pointless

When you don’t love someone anymore, even thinking of their name feels like a waste of time

Ethan came over with a cup of coffee, Hmm? Thinking of buying a car?”

I excitedly shared with him, I’ve got my eye on this Beetle. The down payment isn’t too expensive. What do you think?”

He didn’t look down on this $16,000 car at all. Instead, he happily discussed its costeffectiveness and color options with me

He didn’t forget to add, When you get your new car, you must treat me to a meal. How about some barbecue?”

I nodded confidently, Sure, eat as much as you want!”

After the company’s annual meeting, all colleagues went out for dinner together. It was a lively and festive atmosphere

However, you can’t be too happy too soon. For instance, we unfortunately ran into Jack and his friends again

Not at the entrance this time, but near the restrooms

It wasn’t just Jack, but also his group of friends and my colleagues

I wanted to pretend I didn’t know them, but a drunk Jack grabbed my hand, Lily, I really know I was wrong. Please forgive me this once. I’ll be obedient from now on. You can’t

leave me.”

His face was flushed from drinking, his eyes looking deep even at a dog

I shook off his hand and looked at his friends who were watching the show, What are you standing there for? Call Rose.”

The smirks on his friendsfaces faded, and they asked puzzled, Jack’s like this, and you still don’t care?”

Since his friends weren’t going to do anything, why should I bother? I turned to leave

Jack went crazy, reaching out to grab my waist

But the figure in front of me was faster. Ethan’s fist connected directly with Jack’s face

sending him falling to the ground, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth

It looked pretty bad

I took out a tissue from my pocket, about to step forward

But Ethan strode to me, looking at me with a pitiful expression

I wiped his hand with the tissue, concerned, Oh no, does it hurt? Your hand is all dirty

now.”

Jack’s friends stood there dumbfounded

Ethan chuckled softly

My colleagues nearby had knowing smiles, enjoying the drama

This incident would have ended there, but just then, Rose arrived. Seeing me, she went crazy and tried to slap me

Lily, you bitch, why are you still clinging to Jack!”

Ethan blocked her, gripping her wrist tightly

It was the first time I heard him speak in such a cold tone, Show some respect to my

girlfriend.”

The usually arrogant Rose immediately backed down, rubbing her wrist. She didn’t dare to say anything more and went to help Jack up

But Jack pushed her away, shouting my name

Get away from me, it’s all your fault that Lily is angry. Don’t touch me anymoreWah

Lily, I was wrong”

It was quite a sight to see a 6foot spoiled rich guy cry like that.

I took out my phone and snapped a picture, sending it to my best friend Samantha

He looks so ugly when he cries. I can’t believe I was so blind before!”

Samantha sent a thumbs up: Well done! This is the Lily I used to know! Let that

scumbag go to hell!”

I replied with a simple okayand left with Ethan

My mood was calm, without any fluctuations

The person I had loved for five years was now worthless to me

Chapter 1 Summary – “After Leaving the Jerk, I Married My High School Crush”

Part 1: The Last Straw

Lily had spent three years loving Jack — a man who took her loyalty for granted.
When she caught him at a bar, his hands around his childhood sweetheart Rose, he didn’t even look guilty. Instead, he rolled his eyes and accused her of being dramatic.
That night, Lily realized the only drama she’d been living was loving a man who never saw her worth.

Part 2: The Breakup

Jack sat on the couch, irritated, calling her immature. His tone was cold, dismissive — as if she were the problem.
But Lily was done explaining, done defending herself.
As he walked to the bathroom to take a call, she followed silently — and heard the truth for herself.
Rose’s voice floated through the door, soft and flirtatious. “Jack, she’s not giving you a hard time, is she?”
Jack’s voice, gentle and patient — a tone Lily never received — replied, “Of course not, don’t worry.”
That was the moment her heart stopped loving him.

Part 3: The Quiet Escape

While they laughed behind the closed door, Lily quietly packed her things.
She didn’t cry. She didn’t scream. She simply left — suitcase in hand, dignity intact.
Before stepping out, she sent one last text:

“We’re done. Don’t contact me again.”
Then she blocked his number — and finally walked away from years of humiliation.

Part 4: The Mockery

Minutes later, her phone buzzed nonstop.
Jack’s friends flooded the group chat, mocking her breakup like it was a running joke.

“Playing the runaway game again, Lily?”
“She’ll be back in a week, like always.”
Their cruel laughter hit harder than she expected. But instead of breaking down, she typed one last message:
“You’re right. I did keep coming back. But this time, I’m gone for good.”
And with that, she left the chat forever.

Part 5: The Painful Realization

That group had always been her silent torture — a reminder of how one-sided her relationship had become.
She used to scroll through every message just to see Jack’s name, hoping for affection, a hint of care.
But all she found was mockery, flirtation, and proof that she’d been nothing more than background noise in his world.

Part 6: The Doormat Years

She remembered how she used to wash his sports clothes, buy him gifts, and even skip meals to surprise him with things he wanted.
He never thanked her. Never looked at her the way he looked at Rose.
All those years of love were wasted on someone who couldn’t even say her name with warmth.
And yet — she had loved him. Deeply. Foolishly.

Part 7: The Turning Point

As she drove away from the apartment, something inside her shifted.
For the first time, Lily felt peace — not because she stopped caring, but because she finally cared about herself.
She didn’t need revenge, or closure.
She just needed to start over.

Part 8: The Unexpected Post

Days later, while Jack bragged online about his “freedom,” Lily made her own quiet statement — a photo on Instagram of her marriage certificate.
The caption was simple:

“Some endings come with better beginnings.”
Within minutes, the internet exploded.

Part 9: The Beggar Returns

Jack showed up at her door that night — eyes red, voice trembling, begging for another chance.
“Lily, you can’t be serious! Who did you marry? Tell me this is a joke!”
But Lily only smiled, calm and radiant.

“You told me I was dramatic, remember? So here’s my final act.”
She closed the door — this time for good.

Part 10: The Full Circle

The man she married wasn’t a stranger.
He was her high school crush — the boy who once waited for her after class, who used to say, “You deserve better, Lily.”
Years later, he kept his promise.
And as Lily stood beside her new husband, she realized that sometimes, losing the wrong person is the only way to find the right one.
