When he heard the reporters talking, he glanced over. 

The moment he saw Nathan, his face hardened. No emotion was shown at all. 

But when his eyes landed on Maria, his fists tightened. His pupils flickered with mixed feelings. 

“Don’t stand here and block the road!” 

A supervisor rushed over and slapped Huglan on the shoulder, shouting in irritation. 

Huglan quickly turned around and pushed the garbage 

cart away. 

Maria looked around. She didn’t notice anything strange. 

Nathan asked quietly, “What’s wrong? You seemed distracted just now.” 

Maria let out a soft sigh. “It’s nothing. I just felt like someone was watching me.” 

Nathan snorted and took her hand. 

“Our country is much safer than many countries abroad. You won’t see sudden terror attacks here.” 

Maria nodded and said, “Maybe I got used to being on edge abroad. I’m still not used to being back.” 

Nathan patted the back of her hand and guided her toward a quieter window nearby. 

“Take your time. We’re staying here for the long term.” 

Maria disagrees.

“I’ve already reviewed the lab behind St. Anne Hospital. It fits our needs perfectly. You know that person didn’t leave us much time,” she went on. 

“Building a new lab from scratch is nothing like using one that’s already set up. I also checked the owner of that lab,” she added. 

“It belongs to our biological daughter.” 

Maria had been handling this matter the whole time. When the results came in, Nathan wasn’t surprised. 

“My understanding of Nolan Group still comes from Oscar,” Nathan said. 

“Back then, Oscar was a real powerhouse. Who would’ve thought he’d be in a coma for eight years?” 

Thinking about it, Maria felt a wave of emotion too. 

“Our research wasn’t stable back then. Eight years in a coma wasn’t that strange. But…” 

She frowned again. 

“The fact that Oscar woke up and can even live like a normal person now is truly shocking.” 

Nathan lowered his voice. 

“Charlie told me it was probably our daughter doing it.” 

Maria’s face darkened slightly. 

“She really is impressive. She can race cars and practice medicine too. I must be blessed.” 

Nathan gently patted her back. 

“We owe this child a lot. When we see her later, talk to her properly. We’re family. As long as she feels at ease,” he said softly, “forget the lab. She might even help us improve the experiments and push our research further.” 

Hearing that, Maria couldn’t help but smile. 

“You think too highly of her. I already looked into it. That lab mainly focuses on biomedical research. It’s run by two college students. 

“Both students are outstanding, especially Clayton. He’s the son of the Chancellor of Riverview University, the very person we once wanted to meet.”

Nathan raised an eyebrow. “So whether it’s the lab or her position at Nolan Group, it’s all payment for saving Oscar.” 

As for how Alice had such medical skills, they couldn’t figure it out no matter how hard they tried. 

Maria took a deep breath and spoke slowly. 

“When we meet her, don’t keep pushing me to acknowledge her as family,” she said. 

“She may be our biological daughter, but we barely know her. There’s no need to be too close. 

“Take Linda, for example. Even when I treat her coldly, she still clings to us. 

“If we treat Alice too well, she might take advantage of it. That could hurt our plans.” 

Nathan nodded. 

In truth, he had always preferred sons–especially his eldest, whom he had raised as his heir. 

But it was a pity; Gary only loved chess. 

The other sons each had their own strengths, but none could truly take over his legacy. 

Alice, though she hadn’t grown up with them, clearly had ability in this area. 

Unfortunately, she was a woman and already married.
