The lawyer nodded, but he still felt uneasy. 

Eric’s uncles had once been powerful figures. Even so, Eric had sent them to prison. 

With solid evidence, they had been locked up for a long time. 

Matt and Josh were luckier. They had not taken part in the crimes directly. They had only passed along messages, and there was no hard proof. 

In the end, it was a close call, but they got through it. 

Sandy, however, was a different story.

Because of this, he told Ruby to prepare herself mentally.

“But if they’ve already completed an injury assessment, you need to stop them from contacting the police. 

“If possible, you should settle this privately.” 

Ruby understood what he meant. “Mr. Ward,” she said, “in that case, I’ll need to trouble you to come to the hospital with me.” 

She was weak when it came to legal matters. 

With someone helping her, things would be much easier. 

Maxwell Ward was being paid for his work, so of course he didn’t refuse. 

He also thought about the lawyers around Eric. 

Compared to them, he felt he still had a fair chance. 

“Don’t worry, Ms. Randall,” he said. “I’ll go get the car right now. We’ll head to the hospital.”

Because of Eric’s massage, Alice managed to relax for a short while. 

She even got a brief rest, but she woke up quickly. 

Years of constant alertness had made her sensitive to silence. Quiet places always made her instinctively cautious. 

Still, the moment she opened her eyes and saw Eric, her mood settled at once. 

The coldness and sharp edge in her gaze slowly faded. 

“We should go see Janice,” she said. 

She felt as if Eric’s eyes carried warmth of their own. 

It was almost too intense. 

Alice quickly looked away, stood up, and walked out of the lounge. 

Eric’s lips curved slightly. 

He rarely felt this calm. 

For many years, he had pushed himself for his parents and for the family. Even in his sleep, he stayed on guard. 

The three years he had spent in a coma were the only moments he got a sense of quiet peace. 

He longed for it. 

Though that peaceful moment had been interrupted, he believed there would be more in the future. 

Many more. 

Inside the hospital room, Janice slowly woke up. 

She felt as if she had been asleep for a very long time. 

Janice had had a long, endless dream. 

She thought she would stay trapped in it forever, but suddenly, she woke up 

Before opening her eyes, she smelled a strong scent of disinfectant. 

Right. I had been injured. Of course I would end up in a hospital. 

She opened her eyes. 

As expected, the pale white ceiling stared back at her. Every hospital seemed to have the same kind of ceiling.

“Doctor,” he said, showing his ID, his tone calm and firm, “I need to speak with Ms. Thornton. Could you please step outside for a
