“Word is she got, you know, messed with by someone–her clothes were ripped, and people are saying someone has dirt on her, so she’s been scrambling to save herself these last two days. 

“Now, she’s threatening to jump. Maybe it means all her attempts to fix things failed.”

“That USB drive she gave me before was fake from the start–it was all part of Maria’s little setup.

“I just didn’t expect the person she’d take it to would be Nathan.” 

Alice’s face instantly darkened. 

Nathan was technically Linda’s adoptive father, and from what she’d seen before, the two of them had seemed to get along well. 

But if all of this was Nathan’s doing, then that was truly… 

Rowan seemed to know exactly what she was thinking and went ahead and gave her the answer. 

“Nathan wanted to use that USB to cut a deal with the Sarratts. 

“Too bad, the thing is fake. I still don’t know what on earth could be on it that would make the Sarratts bow their heads.” 

Alice could mostly guess. “Got it. I know what to do. Now, I need you to handle something for me.” 

After she hung up, she turned to Eric. “Mr. Eric, we’ve got work.” 

That afternoon, Ruby held a press conference announcing that Eric and Alice had indeed left Nolan Group. However, she stressed that both sides remained on friendly terms and might cooperate again in the future. 

After the press conference, Alice’s name shot back to the top of the trending list. 

Giant screens in malls, the TVs on subways and buses–every public screen was replaying the story.
