Carice’s Story 1Â
After three years of marriage, Carice had attempted suicide 108 times.Â
When she woke up again, she found herself lying in a hospital bed, her mind complete blank.Â
A middle–aged couple was sitting by the bed. Seeing Carice open her eyes, they immediately frowned and said:“How long are you going to keep causing trouble?”Â
“Originally Rufus was in love with Annalise. If he hadn’t gotten drunk and slept with you, why would he have married you?” The middle–aged woman’s face was full of impatience.Â
“He doesn’t love you, so he’s unwilling to return to home. As for you, you repeatedly threaten him with suicide. All these years, look at yourself has he ever come to see you even once?”Â
–Â
“If you weren’t our own daughter, we really wouldn’t bother with you.” that middle–aged man also sighed.“In what way could you possibly compare to Annalise?”Â
Carice stared at them blankly.Â
She had lost all her memories and didn’t even know who she was.Â
She could only piece together a tragic life from the scolding of those who claimed to be her parents..Â
She was originally the eldest daughter of the Thwaites family, but she got lost and was abducted when she was a kid.Â
By the time she was finally found, her parents had already adopted a girl named Annalise.Â
Her parents, who should have cherished her, became solely focused on their adopted daughter. The position that should have belonged to her was completely taken by someone else.Â
Later, she fell in love with Rufus, the CEO of the Sackhoff Group, but his heart was also set on Annalise.Â
Until that banquet, when Rufus, drunk, entered the wrong room and having sex with her.Â
After a night of chaos, Rufus had no choice but to marry her, yet he left her with nothing but cold indifference and disgust.Â
Her parents didn’t love her, and neither did her husband. Tormented beyond endurance yet powerless to change anything, she could only resort to repeated suicide attempts to seek attention.Â
“Enough, we need to go back and cook for Annalise,” Mr. and Mrs. Thwaites stood up.“You stay here and think about what you’veÂ
done!.”Â
The moment the hospital room door closed; Carice felt a sharp pain pierce her chest.Â
Though she had no memory, the despair of being abandoned by the entire world felt unbearably real.Â
She couldn’t understand–how could anyone love an adopted daughter more than their own flesh and blood?Â
And that man named Rufus…Â
He was the one who entered the wrong room, the one who mistook her for someone else.Â
If he married her, why couldn’t he treat her well? Why did he have to push her to the brink with his coldness?Â
She dared not dwell on it. Just hearing these unfamiliar fragments of her past made her heart ache as if being sliced by a blunt knife.Â

What must her former self have endured? The daily despair of being unloved by her parents and ignored by her husband?Â
Carice slowly pushed herself up, completed the discharge procedures alone,Â
but standing at the hospital entrance, she had no idea where to go.Â
She couldn’t remember where her parents‘ house was, nor Rufus’s home.Â
Even more tragic–neither household welcomed her.Â
Suddenly, commotion erupted at the hospital entrance.Â
Carice looked up to see a tall, slender man striding toward her, cradling a delicate figure in his arms.Â

The man was dressed in a sharply tailored black suit, with crisp shoulder lines and extraordinary handsomeness, each step carrying an undeniable presence.Â
The girl in his arms was carefully shielded, her pale little face pressed against his chest. The way he looked down at her was so tender itÂ
his tightening embrace exuding possessiveness, even his footsteps instinctively lightened, afraid to jostle her.Â
stung,Â
“Move!”Â
His voice wasn’t loud, but it made the onlookers automatically part a path.Â
“Oh my god, is that Rufus?” someone behind whispered in shock.Â
“Who else could it be? Who in Sacramento has this kind of presence? He’s breathtaking…”Â
Carice froze in place.Â
So, this was her husband, Rufus,Â
and the one in his arms was probably her adopted sister, Annalise.Â
As the man passed by her, his footsteps paused almost imperceptibly, those pitch–black eyes sweeping over her, cold as an ice blade scraping her skin.Â
But in just a moment, he averted his gaze and strode quickly toward the emergency room with the woman in his arms.Â
Carice’s slender frame trembled slightly.Â
She didn’t follow, still pondering where she should go next-Â
The next second, footsteps sounded behind her. She turned to find Rufus had returned.Â
He grabbed her wrist with such force it made her frown.“Are you Rh–negative?”Â
Without waiting for an answer, he dragged her toward the blood–drawing room.Â
“Annalise’s in a car accident, hemorrhaging. The blood bank is running low. Donate some blood to her, now.”Â
“I…”Â
Carice was about to speak when Rufus suddenly grabbed the back of her head.Â
He leaned down and kissed her.Â
The kiss was cold and brief, ending as soon as it began.Â

“Are you satisfied? Now can you donate?” His voice was low, devoid of any warmth.Â
Before Carice could recover, she was pushed into the blood donation room.Â
Outside the door, the nurses‘ gossip could be heard clearly:Â
MenuÂ
“That’s Mrs. Sackhoff, the one who attempted suicide 108 times? They say her first attempt was to get a kiss from Mr. Sackhoff, the second a date, the third… intimacy…all rejected. Shameless.”Â
“Now Mr. Sackhoff finally kissed her, but only to make her donate blood to Miss Annalise…”Â
“She must be both happy and heartbroken, right? Happy to finally get a kiss from Mr. Sackhoff, but sad it’s for someone else…”Â
Carice lay on the blood donation chair, watching through the glass as Rufus stood by Annalise‘ hospital bed, his slender fingers gently enveloping her pale hand, lowering his head to place a soft kiss on her hands.Â
Strangely, she felt neither happy nor heartbroken.Â
The pain of the needle piercing her vein seemed muffled, as if behind a veil, and even the emotions that should have torn her apart wereÂ
dulled by this amnesia.Â
Turns out, forgetting everything was heaven’s mercy to her.Â
After donating 400cc of blood, Carice walked out pale, her vision darkening in waves.Â
After struggling for a long time, she finally chose to walk up to Rufus:“Rufus, can you tell me… our home address? In exchange, I can give you a gift.”Â
Rufus frowned:“What trick are you playing now? Have you lost your mind from all the suicide attempts?”Â
“No, I have amnesia…”Â
“The driver’s outside,” Rufus interrupted her, “let him take you back.”Â
“Thank you,” Carice said softly, “I’ll prepare the gift properly.”Â
“Don’t bother,” Rufus said coldly, “I’m not interested in any gifts from you. Don’t try to win me over. Every time, it’s always the same: IÂ
love Annalise.”Â
Carice lowered her eyes, a faint smile curling at the corners of her lips.Â
*Really?” she thought. But you’ll like this gift.*Â
After getting in the car, she found the lawyer’s number in her phone contacts and sent a message:Â
“Hello, I want a divorce and Adult Child’s Petition to Sever Legal Ties. Please prepare a divorce agreement and Adult Child’s Petition to Sever Legal Ties for me.”Â
