Chapter 2
When Melanie and Simon arrived at the Rasmussen’s villa, it was getting dark.
Simon glanced at Melanie as she took off her helmet, shaking out her long, beautiful hair. He said nothing but just watched.
He drove a car while she rode a motorcycle.
Yet they arrived at the same time.
Top–tier motorcycles really were something else.
But what Simon didn’t realize was that it wasn’t just the motorcycle but the rider. With poor skills, even the most expensive motorcycle
could only go as fast as a regular one.
Inside the villa, the entire Rasmussen family was waiting in the living room.
As soon as Melanie stepped in, a cold voice said, “You’re Melanie?”
Melanie looked up. A woman in her forties stood before her, dressed in an elegant, expensive outfit. Every move she made was effortlessly elegant.
This was her mother, Winona Calderon, a professor who specialized in human intelligence, and the one who had abandoned her.
Everyone in the Rasmussen family believed Melanie had been switched at birth and gone missing. But the truth was, Winona had
taken her to a remote mountain and left her there.
All because Melanie had failed an IQ test as a child. Winona, obsessed with human intelligence, couldn’t accept having a stupid
daughter. So when she found a girl with an IQ of 150 who looked like Melanie, she made the switch and abandoned Melanie in the
mountains.
From then on, Estelle took Melanie’s place and lived in the Rasmussen family.
Melanie snapped out of it and looked calmly at Winona.
If Winona knew the IQ test had been faulty, and that a later one by Ruby showed Melanie’s IQ was actually 228, would she regret what.
she’d done?
Melanie felt a flicker of excitement.
“What? Can’t you speak? Are you mute?” Winona frowned, her disgust plain.
Only Winona knew the truth about the two girls.
She was shocked that Melanie was still alive.
Back then, Winona left Melanie on that mountain, certain that Melanie wouldn’t make it. She then found Estelle, who looked like
Melanie and had an IQ of 150, and brought Estelle home.
She even took Estelle abroad for four years. As the girl grew older, her appearance changed, and no one suspected a thing.
When Estelle’s fake identity was exposed, Winona lied and said the babies had been switched at birth.
But she hadn’t expected Bethany to insist on finding Melanie.
Still, Winona felt no guilt. If she had to do it again, she’d make the same choice.

She refused to have a child with a low IQ.
She was sure Melanie wouldn’t remember what had happened back then. After all, she was only six years old at that time.

“Is she mute? What a shame. The kids in the Rasmussen family are geniuses, and now we have a mute. She’s probably not very smart either.”
“Even if she is smart, so what? Raised by a female escort, she probably just learned how to seduce men. That kind of intelligence is useless.”
“I don’t get why Mom insisted on bringing her back. Estelle isn’t her real granddaughter, but she’s amazing. She’s a school belle, top twenty in the state on the SAT, and accepted to the University of Chicago. What can Melanie do? She’ll just embarrass the Rasmussen family.”
The chatter kept going. Melanie looked at each of them, one by one.
She had a good memory. She remembered every face.
Winona didn’t look pleased. Her kids had always been the best in the family. She had even tutored her nieces and nephews. But now, there was Melanie, a failure, and they still brought her back.
Just thinking about it made her chest tighten.
“Melanie, you are part of the Rasmussen family, so we brought you back. But this isn’t a nightclub. You need to drop the bad habits you picked up from Ruby. Behave, and you’ll have a place here. Cause trouble, and I’ll throw you out myself.”
Winona looked down at Melanie with cold arrogance.
Melanie was about to speak when someone grabbed her hand. A gentle voice said, “Melanie, when I heard you were found, I picked out a gift for you. This diamond necklace was designed by a famous jeweler. I just want your forgiveness. After all, you suffered because we were switched at birth.”
Melanie looked at the necklace and smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes.
“I just hope you won’t kick me out. I’ve lived here so long. I’ve grown to love Mom, Dad, and Simon. I can’t bear to leave them. As long as you let me stay, I’ll give you anything.”
Melanie sneered, “A ten–dollar necklace from a street stall? What famous designer was that cheap?”
The room fell silent at her words.
She can speak?
Estelle was stunned.
The necklace really was a cheap fake. She had assumed Melanie, raised in nightclubs, uneducated, wouldn’t know the difference.
Estelle gave it to Melanie just to humiliate her.
She thought, “Everything in the Rasmussen family is mine. Why should I share it with this loser? But Melanie saw through it.”
Estelle smirked, thinking to herself, “So what if she saw through it? No one will believe her.”
Winona snapped, “Nonsense! That necklace was custom–designed by the famous Master Lily for Esty, worth hundreds of thousands. There’s your name on it. How can it be from a street stall? Apologize to Esty now!”
Melanie looked up, a faint smile on her lips.

“Mom, it’s okay. Melanie has never had jewelry since she was a kid. It’s normal that she doesn’t recognize it. She’ll learn.” Estelle sounded generous, but her eyes sparkled with pride.

Simon couldn’t take it anymore. “Melanie, didn’t I warn you not to mess with Esty? Are you blaming her for your identity being stolen?”
Before Melanie could respond, Simon continued coldly, “You guys were switched at birth. That’s just your bad luck. Why blame Esty? She felt guilty for years after finding out she took your place and made you suffer. She even picked out gifts for you, and this is how you treat her?”
A loud bang was heard.
Before he could finish, Melanie kicked him hard, sending him flying.
She looked at him calmly.“Do you think I’m some pushover? Or did I somehow make you think you have the right to lecture me?”
This scene shocked everyone.
No one expected the newly returned girl to attack her own brother so fiercely. Her kick made Simon cough up blood.
“Simon, are you okay?” Estelle rushed to help Simon up and then turned to Melanie.“Melanie, it wasn’t his fault we were switched. If you’re angry, blame me. How could you hit him?”
“You little brat! How dare you hit Simon! I’ll teach you a lesson!”
Winona raised her hand to strike, but Melanie caught her wrist.“The girl you knew before I was six is gone, Mom…” she drawled, her voice dripping with sarcasm and coldness.
