Melanie left, leaving everyone puzzled.
Neither Winona nor Estelle had expected Melanie, who had been acting out since returning home, to give up such a great engagement.
Bethany was also surprised.
She thought Melanie would be happy with this arrangement.
After all, few girls could resist someone like Warren.
He was young, successful, and already in charge of the powerful Fulton family business.
Not to mention, Warren was incredibly handsome, truly one in a million.
The only downside was his cold and distant personality.
Many dreamed of marrying into the Fulton family, but Araceli Fulton had her reservations. Still, the marriage had been arranged years ago between the Fulton and the Rasmussen families.
When the Fulton family came to discuss the engagement, Bethany wasn’t home. Winona received them.
At the time, everyone believed Estelle was the real daughter of the Rasmussen family, so the engagement was settled accordingly.
But the engagement was originally meant for Melanie. If she married Warren, Araceli would definitely treat her well.
Yet Melanie didn’t want it.
She acted like she couldn’t run away fast enough.
Why?
“Since Melanie said she doesn’t want this engagement, I’ll speak to the Fulton family and finalize Warren and Estelle’s engagement as soon as possible,” Winona said quickly, before Bethany could object.
Though Bethany didn’t want Estelle to replace Melanie and marry Warren, she couldn’t refuse.
The Rasmussen and Fulton families weren’t just in–laws. They had business ties too.
Bethany looked displeased.“Handle it,” she said.
The thought of Estelle taking what was Melanie’s made she lose her appetite. She walked out.
The next day, the engagement party was held.
Winona moved fast.
Right after Bethany gave the order, Winona went straight to Araceli’s place in Atlanta and set the date immediately.
The Fulton family agreed quickly, scheduling the engagement for noon the next day.
Since it was rushed, only close family members attended.
The Rasmussen side was larger. Bethany had three sons and two daughters. Just in the main branch, there were five grandchildren, and the extended family added ten more.
They set up three tables.

The Fulton side was simpler.
Besides Araceli and Nikolas Fulton, only Warren’s parents and Warren himself were present.
The rest of the family was in Chicago. The Fulton family was wealthy and influential. It wasn’t practical for everyone to drop everything and attend.
Before the party began, the Fulton family hadn’t arrived yet.
Simon glanced at Melanie, who was chatting with Evander nearby, and walked over with a serious expression.

“Melanie, let me remind you. You’re the one who gave up this engagement. When the Fulton family arrives, sit properly and don’t cause trouble,” he said sternly.“Got it?”
Melanie lounged in her chair, her cool gaze fixed on Simon, a mocking smile on her lips.“Mr. Rasmussen, did you forget the pain already?”
“You!” Simon looked annoyed. “I’m warning you. If you cause trouble, don’t blame me for being rude.”
Melanie sat up and reached for her glass.
Evander quickly stopped her.“Calm down. He does deserve a punch, but wait until today is over. Don’t embarrass Grandma.”
Bethany and Araceli were close friends. Today was important for both families. If Melanie beat up Simon here, it would reflect badly
on Bethany.
Melanie paused and then slowly put the glass down.“Since I’m in a good mood, get lost.”
She really was in a good mood.
Her ex–boyfriend, who had been bothering her for two months, was finally getting engaged. She was finally free.
But Simon just provoked her.
Anyway, she was in a good mood, so she let it go.
“So rude,” Simon muttered. He knew Melanie’s temper. She’d fight at the drop of a hat.
He’d already been hit by her twice. If it weren’t for Estelle, he wouldn’t go near Melanie.
He walked away and sat back down.
A while later, the Fulton family arrived.
Araceli and Bethany chatted for a bit. Then they sat together like old friends, holding hands.
Melanie glanced at the door and froze.
Why wasn’t Warren here?
Wasn’t today his engagement?
Was he planning to run away?
Melanie started to panic.
If Warren ran away, he’d just keep bothering her.
No way!

She had to make sure Warren showed up.
She picked up her phone to call, but Bethany asked, “Why isn’t Warren here?”
Winona and Estelle looked nervously at Araceli.
Estelle, especially, was fidgeting with her hands.
She was afraid Warren would call off the engagement.
After all, this engagement wasn’t meant for her.

“Don’t even mention it. No one knows where he is. We can’t find him,” Araceli said, rubbing her forehead.“But it’s fine. The engagement will go on. I arranged this engagement myself. Estelle is the only one marrying him. I won’t accept anyone else.”
Melanie quietly put her phone away.
As long as the engagement happened, that was enough.
Estelle also breathed a sigh of relief.
As long as the engagement happened, that was enough.
As long as they got engaged, even if Warren didn’t want to, he’d still be her fiancé.
Just thinking about becoming the fiancée of the man she’d liked for years made her heart race.
The engagement was simple, but all the traditional steps were followed.
The Fulton family gave the Rasmussen family the agreed–upon betrothal gift,770,000 dollars.
In a family like the Fulton family, the betrothal gift was usually over millions.
But because of Bethany and Araceli’s close relationship, the betrothal gift was just a symbolic gesture.
Bethany had requested this amount.
The rest of the family had no say.
Winona wasn’t happy with the amount. She thought it was too low.
Alberto didn’t care. He didn’t want to profit from the betrothal gift.
The Rasmussen family wasn’t as powerful as the Fulton family, but they were still well–known in Atlanta. He didn’t like Estelle, but he didn’t want people saying he gained profit from her marriage.
So both families were satisfied with the arrangement.
They also discussed jewelry and the wedding date, all decided by the elders.
Once everything was settled, the ceremony began. Since Warren wasn’t there, Araceli stood in for him.
Just as the ceremony was about to start, the hotel door was kicked open.
Everyone’s face fell.
Who would dare cause trouble at their engagement party?
But when they saw who it was, they were stunned..

Warren?
Wasn’t he hiding because he didn’t want to marry Estelle?
Why was he here?
Did he change his mind?
“You brat, where have you been? Come here. The ceremony is about to start,” Araceli said, relieved.
At least he showed up.
It meant he accepted the engagement.

But Warren didn’t respond. He glanced around the hall, his eyes locking on Melanie. With a cold expression, he walked straight toward
her.
He stopped in front of her, his voice icy with anger.“Why did you break up with me?”
