Chapter 230Â
Briana was stumped by the question.Â
Divorce took two people; it was not something she could decide on her own.Â
Unless Shepard agreed, this divorce just wasn’t going to happen.Â
Camila added, “Just give me a heads–up, so I can mentally prepare myself. Otherwise, you keep talking about divorce, but you’re still Mrs. Carter. That’s just making things harder for me, don’t you think?”Â
Seeing Briana still didn’t respond, Camila scoffed, “Maybe you never wanted a divorce in theÂ
Mrs. Carter.”Â
“I…” Briana hesitated.Â
“I get it,” Camila cut her off, her voice sharp. “Who’d willingly let a guy like Mr. Carter slip away? I’ve heard all about your story with him.”Â
She continued, “You already got rid of your biggest rival, Ms. Fletcher, and locked in your spot. Why would you ever step down now?”Â
“May the best woman win, Mrs. Carter. You can fight to keep Mr. Carter, and I’ll keep chasing after him,” Camila said.Â
Briana frowned. “How can you say something with absolutely no moral boundaries?”Â
Camila replied breezily, “Because I love him.”Â
“Don’t be the other woman,” Briana warned. “It won’t do you any good.”Â
“I’m not afraid to risk it all for love,” Camila shot back.Â
Camila was totally unfazed.Â
Just then, Shepard finished his call and came back.Â
He hadn’t heard what the two women were talking about, but he could feel the tension in the air the moment he walked in.Â
“Briana…” Shepard started..Â
But before he could finish, Briana turned around, shot him an impassive look, and strode away without saying a word.Â
Shepard immediately followed after her.Â
He then turned to look at Camila.Â
Camila just smiled sweetly and flashed him an OK sign.Â
‘Everything’s going just as I planned, Camila thought to herself.Â
Shepard frowned.Â
He quickened his pace to catch up with Briana.Â
“Briana, don’t let Camila bother you. She means nothing to me,” Shepard said.Â
“I’m not bothered,” Briana replied. “There are so many women interested in you. If I worried about every single one, never get anything done, and I’d have to spend all my time just keeping an eye on you.”Â
I’dÂ

Shepard asked, “Would you really want to stay with me like that?”Â
Briana looked at him, surprised.Â
‘What is he even talking about?‘ she thought.Â
“Why don’t you ever get jealous?” Shepard sighed. “You’re my wife. You have every rightÂ
“I don’t have time for that,” Briana replied.Â
The more Briana thought about it, the more annoyed she got.Â
‘Shouldn’t he be the one staying loyal?‘ she thought.Â
O stand your ground.”Â
But then she realized, Shepard hadn’t actually done anything wrong. Honestly, it was women wost couldn’t help but flock to him.Â
And that just made Briana even more frustrated.Â
“I’m heading back to the gallery,” she said. “Don’t follow me.”Â
“Why can’t I follow you?” Shepard asked.Â
“Shepard, don’t you have your own stuff to deal with?” Briana shot back.Â
He was the CEO of Carter Group, sitting at the top of the food chain. He should be swamped with work, barely having a moment for himself.Â
But instead, he was the one chasing after her, completely wrapped up in her.Â
“You’re the most important thing to me,” Shepard said with total sincerity. “I’ve already finished my work, or I can just handle it tomorrow.”Â
Briana was about to say something when her phone suddenly rang.Â
It was a number she didn’t recognize.Â
“Hello?” Briana answered politely. “Who’s calling?”Â
“Hello, Ms. Lane. I’m a reporter from the Belaris Times. Your two paintings, Beneath the Waves and Starlit Skies, were a huge hit at the art show last weekend and sold for a record price for a young artist,” the one said.Â
The reporter added, “I was wondering if I could interview you about it. Would that be okay?”Â
“Sure,” Briana replied.Â
“I’m actually at Dreamscape Gallery right now,” the reporter said. “Would you have an hour you?”Â
o to spare? Is that okay withÂ
“No problem. I’m heading back to the gallery now. Just hang tight for about ten minutes, alright?” Briana said.Â
“Alright, Ms. Lane,” the reporter replied.Â
Shepard was standing right there, and he heard every word,Â
“An interview?” He raised an eyebrow. “My girl Briana’s about to be on TV and in the papers. Guess I’ll get to bask in your glory, too.”Â
Briana didn’t even spare him a glance as she headed straight for the elevator.Â

‘Fine, let me tag along. Shepard thought.Â
There was no way she could shake him off.Â
Shepard’s phone chimed.Â
He watched Briana marching ahead, then shot a quick look at his phone to check the message.Â
youchedÂ
Camila: [Mr. Carter, Mrs. Carter got jealous. Go make it up to her! That’s a good sign. It means she’s got you on her mind]Â
If she didn’t care at all, that’d be the real problem.Â
Shepard glanced at the message, deleted it, and put his phone away.Â
Briana hurried over to Dreamscape Gallery as fast as she could.Â
Inside the lounge, the reporter was chatting with Leonard, totally fangirling. She even got his autograph and snapped a selfie with him.Â
When Briana walked in, the reporter was blown away by her.Â
“You must be Ms. Lane, right?” the reporter asked. “You’re even prettier and more elegant in person than in your photos. You’re so young and gentle.”Â
Briana couldn’t help but feel a little embarrassed by all the praise.Â
Before she could even say anything modest, the reporter spotted Shepard standing behind her, and her eyes practically sparkled.Â
“And this must be Mr. Carter,” the reporter said, practically gushing. “He’s even more handsome and has such a commanding presence in real life. Ms. Lane, you and Mr. Carter together, seriously, you two are a total power couple, made for each other!”Â
She added, “If you both did an interview together, the internet wouldÂ
goÂ
wild.”Â
The reporter could barely contain her excitement. “The hype would be off the charts!‘ she thought.’Â
And let’s not forget, Shepard was notoriously hard to interview.Â
First of all, getting a slot with him was nearly impossible. The reporters had to wait in line forever just to get a chance.Â
And even then, Shepard didn’t like being on camera.Â
Up till now, he had only ever done one interview with a major business magazine, and even then, he only spared them thirty minutes.Â
“Hello, I’m Shepard Carter, Ms. Lane’s husband,” Shepard introduced himself with confide I’m just here to support her.”Â
He politely declined the reporter’s request for an interview.Â
She’s the real star here, andÂ
The reporter nodded and said, “I was just speaking offhand, Mr. Carter. Of course, I know you rarely appear on camera. I’m just genuinely impressed that someone as busy as you would make time to accompany Ms. Lane for her interview.”Â
“Anything about her comes before anything else for me,” Shepard said, not missing a beat.Â
Everyone in the lounge let out a collective gasp.Â
The photographer, the lighting crew, and all the staff were totally shipping them, grinning like fangirls.Â

Leonard burst out laughing.Â
“My student really scored herself an amazing husband,” Leonard laughed. “Tall, handsome, rich, responsible, and so thoughtful, she’s found herself a real treasure.”Â
Briana was at a loss for words.Â
Shepard chimed in. “Honestly, Mr. Dean, I’m the one who struck gold here. Briana’s talented, gentle, and always purs familyÂ
first.”Â
He added, “She’s the kind of wife most someone as wonderful as her.”Â
Only dream of. I must’ve saved the world inÂ
life to end up withÂ
Leonard let out a hearty laugh. “You two are really something, and I’m genuinely happy for you. Alright, Briana, go ahead and do your interview. I’ll head out now. With Mr. Carter by your side, I don’t have to worry about a thingÂ
The crew had finished setting up the interview space.Â
The lights were all set.Â
The reporter was in position.Â
