“When did you start planning all this?” Briana asked, still stunned. “You just got out of the hospital… So you were already working on this while you were still there?” 

“Yes,” Shepard replied. 

Briana paused, thinking it over. “I always thought you were just busy with work, but you were actually planning this whole proposal behind my back.” 

“Exactly,” Shepard said with a grin. 

Briana gave him a playful punch, giggling. “You’re seriously a pro at keeping secrets!” 

“You bet,” Shepard said with a smirk. “If you’d figured it out, you wouldn’t have that surprised look on your face right now.” 

Seeing Briana’s radiant, satisfied smile, Shepard felt that everything he’d done was more than worth it. 

“How did you convince everyone to go along with this?” Briana asked, glancing at their friends and family laughing nearby as balloons drifted into the air. “They all kept your secret and helped you plan everything. Even Wrenley came back from the island.” 

Shepard grinned. “They just want to see you happy, Briana.” 

Those words made Briana’s eyes grow misty. 

Noticing Briana’s gaze, Olivia called out with a bright smile, “Briana, come over here! There are so many balloons. Let’s write our wishes on them and let them fly!” 

“Okay, I’m coming!” Briana replied. 

Briana hurried over. 

Shepard followed close behind her. 

Briana passed the balloon to Shepard to hold, then took a pen and carefully wrote four words on it. 

Grow old together.

Chapter 283 

After she finished, she and Shepard both held the string, then released it together. 

The balloon slowly drifted upward. 

Carrying their heartfelt wishes, it floated off into the distance. 

Briana watched the balloon float away. 

Shepard watched Briana. 

Suddenly, he leaned in and kissed her on the cheek. 

“Hey!” Briana exclaimed, a little surprised. “Why did you sneak up on me like that?” 

“I almost forgot a really important tradition,” Shepard said. 

“What?” Briana asked.

Briana giggled, unable to hold back her playful smile. 

She rose up on her tiptoes and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. “Don’t worry, you’ll have all the time you want to kiss me later. When we get home, you can smother me with kisses if you want.” 

“It’s different,” Shepard said. 

He bent down, leaning close to her ear. “Should I make up for it right now?” 

Briana shook her head, smiling. “Not now.” 

There were so many people here. She felt too embarrassed, too shy with everyone watching. 

But Shepard wasn’t ready to back down. He moved in, pretending he was about to kiss her right then and there. 

“Hey, hey, hey!” Olivia suddenly popped up, grinning. “What are you two whispering about? Briana, you’re not mad at me, right?” 

“Mad at you? For what?” Briana blinked. 

“For tricking you into coming here,” Olivia laughed. “I tried so hard to get you to put on some makeup, but you just wouldn’t budge 

As she spoke, Olivia pulled out her phone and opened her photo album. “I took tons of pictures of you. Every picture is stunning, the angles perfect. Honestly, if you ever dressed up and went all out, I can’t imagine how breathtaking yourd be.” 

Brianna deliberately kept a serious expression and said, “Now you’re in cahoots with Shepard, leaving me out, aren’t you?” 

Keep in mind, Shepard and Olivia never got along before. 

Olivia never missed a chance to roast Shepard. 

And Shepard… 

He never had much patience for Olivia, either. 

“It’s all for your happiness,” Olivia said. “Briana, I used to hate Shepard because I thought he didn’t treat you right, that he didn’t love you enough. But now, I’m actually rooting for him; he brings you so much joy.”
