Chapter 288Â
Chapter 288Â
If this was about work, Briana wasn’t interested.Â
It was late, and she was ready to call it a night.Â
“Personal stuff,” Charles replied. “So you don’t care about work stuff?”Â
“Are you going to say it or not?” Briana pressed.Â
Briana’s patience with Charles was running thin.Â
Just thinking about how Charles totally blew it at the restaurant made Briana fume.Â
She was dying for a sister–in–law!Â

Camila was amazing. If he kept dragging his feet, some other guy would snatch her up, and he’d be kicking himself when that happened.Â
“Alright,” Charles said. “Come on. Don’t be so mean to me.”Â
“How am I being mean?” Briana retorted.Â
“It’s good news,” Charles laughed nervously. “Actually, Camila’s right here with me.”Â
“Oh,” Briana replied, not really caring.Â
She barely registered it.Â
But after a couple of seconds, she realized something.Â
She thought, ‘Wait a second. Camila’s still with Charles?Â
‘He didn’t walk her home?Â
It’s so late. Why are they still together?‘Â
Briana suddenly sat up straight, with her eyes sparkling.Â
“Wait, you’re still with Camila?” Briana asked. “You guys finished dinner, and you didn’t walk her home?”Â
“I’m parked outside her apartment building,” Charles replied.Â
“Why isn’t she getting out of the car?” Briana asked.Â
“Because…” Charles cleared his throat and said, “she’s my girlfriend now.”Â
Briana was stunned.Â
Her brain short–circuited. She couldn’t even process what she’d just heard.Â
Three seconds later, Briana shrieked, “Ah!”Â
Shepard arched his brow at her.Â

“Be careful, Briana,” he reminded her. “Don’t blow out your voice.”Â
But Briana was way too excited to care.Â

“No way. Are you serious?” She couldn’t hold back, firing questions at Charles. “You really confessed? She actually said yes? You two are really a couple now? Come on, Charles, it’s not April Fool’s. Don’t mess with me.”Â
“Come on. You’re pregnant. You’re basically made of glass. I wouldn’t dare mess with you,” Charles said.Â
“Oh my god! Finally! You did it!” Briana squealed.Â
She wanted to jump out of bed, but her belly was way too big for that.Â
“How’d you finally figure it out?” Briana asked. “You were stuck for half a year, and now you made it happen in just one night?”Â
“I was just slowly laying the groundwork,” Charles replied.Â
He thought, ‘What’s the hurry?Â
‘When you’re chasing a girl, take your time. That’s how you show you really care.Â
If Charles had just rushed in and confessed, Camila might’ve turned him down.Â
Briana urged by saying, “Come on. Put Camila on the phone. I need to talk to her!”Â
“What are you planning?” Charles sounded wary. “Don’t go badmouthing me in front of her.”Â
“Am I that kind of person?” Briana shot back.Â
Charles replied, “Yes, you are.”Â
Briana just rolled her eyes, feeling speechless.Â
Just as Briana was about to demand to hear Camila, Camila’s voice suddenly came through the line.Â
“Hello, Mrs. Carter.” Camila greeted. “Do you want to speak to me?”Â
It sounded like Camila had just snatched the phone right out of Charles’s hand.Â
“What did you just call me?” Briana immediately corrected her. “Camila, you need to change your address for me now.”Â
Briana thought, ‘See? I really showed a good example of how to address someone close!Â
Camila chuckled. “Briana, what did you want to say to me?”Â
Charles’s voice drifted in. “Well, don’t take anything Briana says seriously. Only my words count, okay? She’s always teasing me. She’s my number one hater.”Â
“Come on. Briana’s not like that,” Camila replied.Â
“Seriously? You’re siding with her already?” Charles protested, sounding a bit pouty. “I’m your boyfriend, remember!”Â
“Alright. Hush for a second and let Briana speak,” Camila said gently. “It’s late. She needs to rest. She’s pregnant, so don’t keep her up too long.”Â

Briana was grinning from ear to ear.Â
Briana thought, ‘Wow, Camila really has Charles eating out of the palm of her hand!”Â

“Camila,” Briana said, “if Charles ever pisses you off or does anything to let you down, you come to me first. I’ll take care of him for you with no questions asked!Â
“Charles is a classic guy, not really the romantic type, honestly. He’s just as clueless as Shepard about that stuff. And yeah, he used to be spoiled and a total playboy, but that’s all ancient history.Â
“I promise, this past year, he’s actually become reliable. He is someone you can trust.Â
“Don’t be afraid to boss him around. Make sure he does what you say. Camila, you’re the one in charge of our family, not him. And I’m with you. Whatever you say goes!”Â
Camila listened carefully to everything Briana said and then replied, “Alright, Briana. I’ll keep that in mind.”Â
“Alright! I hope you and Charles make it official soon!” Briana said with her voice full of excitement.Â
“Thanks,” Camila replied.Â
“By the way,” Briana said with a sly smile, “spill the tea. How did Charles confess? And what made you say yes?”Â
“I-” Before Camila could get another word out, Charles immediately grabbed the phone back.Â
“Okay, that’s it. You know we’re together now. Just wanted to give you a heads up,” Charles said. “Alright, bye. Goodnight. Go get some sleep.”Â
The line went dead.Â
Briana rolled her eyes and said, “Seriously? He won’t even let me ask a couple more questions. Ugh.”Â
“You should get some rest now, Briana,” Shepard said, glancing at the clock. “It’s getting late.”Â
“I was totally ready to crash, but now that I’ve heard this amazing news, I’m wide awake again,” Briana said.Â
She tilted her head, thinking hard. “Honey, do you think what I said at the restaurant actually helped? Am I basically their matchmaker now? If they ever get married, do you think they’ll give me a special gift for playing Cupid?”Â
Shepard replied, “If they get married, you’ll have to give them a wedding gift.”Â
“Yeah, that’s true. But even if I chip in, I’m still collecting my matchmaker fee,” Briana said, grinning.Â
“You really think Charles would actually pay you for that?” Shepard teased.Â
Briana was left speechless.Â
Briana thought, shaking her head, ‘Charles would never actually pay me for that.Â
In his mind, he got together with Camila purely because of his own charm. It has nothing to do with me at all!Â
“Alright,” Shepard said, ruffling her hair. “Just let them do their thing. It’s their relationship. Outsiders can’t really meddle or help much anyway.”Â
“Yeah, now that Charles has got a girlfriend, that just leaves Olivia” Briana mused. “What kind of guy would be right for her, though? Hey, honey, do you know anyone who might be a good match for Olivia?”Â

Shepard thought, ‘What? She wants me to play matchmaker for Olivia?‘Â
He just pressed his lips together, not saying a word.Â
Yeah, that was way out of his league.Â

“You know tons of promising guys. Can’t you set Olivia up with someone?” Briana pressed. “Or are you just not interested in playing Cupid for her?”Â
Shepard answered a bit evasively, “Olivia is better off finding love on her own. She’s not really the matchmaking type.”Â
Given Olivia’s strong personality and temper, honestly, most guys would be totally out of their depth with her.Â
