Since Shepard had already figured it out, Briana could only come clean. 

She was pregnant for real. 

Shepard’s eyes widened in shock.

He asked, “So you didn’t have a miscarriage? You faked the abortion, but you were actually planning to hide the fact that you’re carrying my child from everyone and giving birth to it in secret?” 

The medical report spelled out the exact stage of Briana’s pregnancy. 

She was already pregnant before the divorce even happened. 

The timeline was undeniable. 

It hadn’t even been a month since Shepard and Briana split. 

The divorce process wasn’t even over yet. 

There was absolutely no way Briana could be pregnant by him now. He hadn’t touched her since the divorce. 

Briana clenched her fists so tightly her nails dug into her palms. 

‘No way. I can’t let him know he’s the baby’s father,‘ Briana told herself. 

A daring plan began to take shape in Briana’s mind. 

“So the whole divorce and the miscarriage were all just a show you put on?” Shepard stared into her eyes, gripping her shoulders tight. “Briana, what are you trying to achieve by having this baby? Huh? Answer me!” 

Briana looked away, refusing to meet his gaze. 

Suddenly, she noticed a white pill bottle sitting on the couch. 

Shepard had been toying with it the whole time. 

“What’s in that bottle?” Briana asked. “Is it meds?” 

Shepard didn’t turn his head, his gaze still fixed on her. “Yes.” 

“What kind?” Briana asked. 

“Abortion pills,” Shepard said. “Super strong stuff. For you, one should be enough–two at most. You’ll feel it working in an hour.” 

Blood drained from Briana’s face instantly. “Did you drag me here just to make me take abortion pills?” 

‘Is he really this heartless? No mercy at all? Just cold–blooded and cruel?‘ Briana wondered.

“Briana, you still haven’t answered me.” Shepard growled. 

“Who gave you the right to decide if my baby lives or dies?” Briana’s voice shook with despair and heartbreak. 

She snapped, “The moment you found out I was pregnant, the first thing on your mind was how to get rid of it. Shepard, do you even have a heart?” 

“And you think it’s any better that you kept this from me?” Shepard shot back. 

“You think you can just decide a life doesn’t matter? If I refuse to take those pills today, are you really going to force them down my throat?” Briana’s voice shook with anger and disbelief. 

Shepard gritted his teeth, spitting out every word. “Briana, you’ve never been of my child. Not before, not now. Divorced or not, you don’t get to decide this 

Briana never thought her heart could freeze over like this again. 

She kept underestimating just how cold–blooded Shepard really was.

She thought, ‘No, he does care, just not about me. Every bit of his affection is reserved for Vivian. What a joke. Vivian is a liar and the mastermind behind that arson. 

‘I can’t wait to see the look on Shepard’s face when he finally realizes what kind of person Vivian really is. 

Now, she couldn’t help but look forward to that day. 

“Fine, Shepard,” Briana said, biting her bottom lip so hard she tasted blood. “Don’t forget. You were the one who was heartless first.” 

‘In this case, he can’t blame me when I strike back, she thought, her determination steeling. 

She’d just finished going through the files. 

All Shepard had managed to dig up was her pregnancy check–up report. 

But her full surgical records weren’t included. 

She figured he and his people just assumed she’d had an abortion, so they never bothered to check the full surgical records. 

They had never even realized she was pregnant with twins, and the surgery was just to remove the one without a heartbeat, and keep the healthy baby. 

She knew what she had to do. 

Briana said, “Shepard, I’m going to answer your question now.” 

She lifted her chin, her voice clear. “Before we even got divorced, I found out I was pregnant. 

“Then Vivian came back from abroad, and you got colder and more distant, humiliating me in every way, hurting me over and over. That’s why I chose to divorce you.

“After tricking you into signing the surgery consent, I did go in for the abortion. But literally the second before they injected the anesthesia, I panicked. 

“I realized I was about to kill a new life–no matter what, this baby shares my blood, it’s a part of me.

Shepard narrowed his eyes suspiciously. “Henry?” 

‘Why would she call Henry at such a critical moment?‘ Shepard wondered, his mind reeling in disbelief.

He was desperately trying to wrap his head around what she’d just said.

Briana made sure every word hit home, repeating herself coldly. “Let me say it again, Shepard–the baby I’m carrying is Henry’s, not yours.” 

In the next instant, Shepard’s fingers dug into her throat, squeezing mercilessly. 

No sound escaped Briana’s lips. 

But she could see his eyes were blazing red, feral: 

They were filled with pure killing intent. 

She could tell he wanted to kill her. 

The air was being crushed out of her lungs, her brain screaming for oxygen. Briana threw her head back, barely able to let out a whimper as her lips started turning blue and purple. 

Tears slid from the corners of her eyes before she even realized it. 

They fell onto Shepard’s hand. 

Warm and wet. 

When Shepard saw the pregnancy report, what really threw him was why Briana hadn’t gone through with the abortion. 

He had thought maybe she still loved him and wanted to secretly give birth to his child. 

Or maybe she just wanted the baby and planned to raise it on her own.

That could explain why she had staged the whole thing, pretending to have an abortion so everyone would believe she’d ended the pregnancy. 

But in reality, she intended to keep the baby and raise it herself. 

And then, just like that… Briana said it herself that the baby was Henry’s. 

She’d actually betrayed him while they were still married… and ended up pregnant with another man’s child. 

“Briana Lane, you really went behind my back with Henry…” Shepard’s voice shook with fury. 

“You cheated on me!” he growled, the accusation ringing out.

Briana had betrayed him. 

She’d betrayed him, inside and out–body and soul. 

How could any man stomach this kind of humiliation? 

How he wished to strangle Briana right then and there, and Henry, too! 

Briana was on the verge of suffocating. 

Her vision was blurring, and she could barely make out Shepard’s face in front of her. 

She knew exactly what she was saying, and she knew damn well what would happen next. 

But she had no other choice. 

If she admitted the baby was Shepard’s, he wouldn’t hesitate to shove those pills down her throat. 

There would be no way she could save her baby. 

And Briana was gambling now. 

She was betting that Shepard wouldn’t really kill her right here. 

Briana tried to move her lips, barely able to get the words out. “I… I haven’t… finished yet…” 

But Shepard’s grip only tightened, squeezing even harder. 

Briana nearly blacked out, her eyes fluttering shut. 

She’d rather die than let Shepard know the baby was his. 

She wanted him to suffer.
