She would never have shamelessly gone back to fight with Yvonne over anything. She would rather have gotten married than go back and live with them.
But she had lost that bet. Lost completely. She had almost lost her life in the process.
Jared pursed his lips, his confidence clearly wavering. “We were just afraid you’d learned bad habits outside and would be a bad influence on Yvonne. Besides, your personality is so headstrong, not innocent and gentle like Yvonne’s. If you had learned bad habits, she would have been no match for you. You’ve held a grudge over such a small thing for all these years. What are you trying to do? Do you think it’s interesting to bring it up now?”
Back then, they really hadn’t thought that much about it. They just felt that Yvonne shouldn’t be bullied by anyone. He never expected Tracy to remember it for three years. He really couldn’t bring himself to like this sister who held such a deep grudge.
Tracy leaned back against the wall, looked up at the ceiling, and blinked, forcing her tears back.
After a few seconds of silence, she spoke again. “Fine, let’s not talk about the past. Let’s talk about right now. The truth is, you’re just not competent enough, but you insist on blaming me. Don’t you find that ridiculous? Or have you just made a lifelong habit of shifting blame, figuring I’m the ‘bad kid’ so everything I do must be wrong?”
Jared pressed his lips together. He had to admit, Tracy was a good guesser. She’d hit the nail on the head. But he would never admit it.
He scolded her coldly, “Tracy, do you have any idea how many people want to get a meeting with Mr. Johnson and can’t? We finally managed to get one, and you just had to come and cause trouble, ruining the deal for us. Are you happy now? I used to think you were just a child spoiled by your mother, but now I see you’ve gone completely crooked. You can’t even tell friend from foe anymore.”
He knew his mother had doted on this sister, and they had too, once. But he didn’t know why, at some point, this sister had become more and more unreasonable, He wasn’t sure when it started, but he didn’t think he liked this sister anymore. But in the end, Tracy was still their biological sister. They couldn’t just stand by and watch her make mistakes.
Just as Tracy was about to speak, Sean’s deep, cold voice came from behind her. “I was the one who didn’t want to talk to you, not Tracy. Why are you blaming her? Did you really think, if it weren’t for Tracy, that any of you would have even been qualified to meet with me?”
Following the voice, Sean’s tall figure walked over and stopped in front of Tracy. “Are you all right?”

She was surprised Sean had come looking for her. She was even more surprised that he would speak up for her. Now she was completely certain: Sean had come here tonight just to let her vent.
And she had to admit, watching them seethe but not dare to say a word felt pretty damn good.
Just like right now. Seeing Jared’s frustrated, defeated look, she found it hilarious.
Sean’s large hand covered Tracy’s slender one. His dark eyes locked on Jared. “You should be thanking your sister. If it weren’t for her, you wouldn’t have even had the chance to see me.”
Tracy looked up at Sean. Even though she knew he was just saying it, for that one second, it felt real.
Jared looked completely stricken. His voice lost all its previous confidence. “Mr. Johnson, what… what do you mean by that?”
Could it be what he was thinking? Had Sean only come to this dinner to let Tracy vent her anger?
Sean shifted his gaze back to Tracy. His lips parted. “Exactly what it sounds like.”
Jared was pressed against the wall, a wave of shane washing over him. He looked at Tracy in disbelief. “Tracy, what on earth did the Xander family do to you that you would team up with an outsider to toy with us like this? You knew Mr. Johnson wasn’t here to talk business, yet you just stood by and watched us put on a one-man show. Did you enjoy that? When did you become so cold-blooded and vindictive? Tracy, you’ve gone too far!”
So this whole thing was a setup by Sean and Tracy, just to let her vent. But where was all this anger coming from? He had no idea, which made this reality impossible for him, a man who was always in control, to accept.
Tracy said coldly, “That’s right. I am enjoying this. Watching you all seethe but unable to speak… it feels fantastic. I gave up on you completely a few days ago, when you skipped the third anniversary of our mother’s death all because of Yvonne. You went on vacation, and Grandmother fell ill and was hospitalized. Mr. Johnson even reminded you. And what did you do?”
At this, the coldness on Tracy’s lips deepened. “A few words from Yvonne was all it took for you to suspect that Grandmother’s hospitalization was a lie, that we were tricking you. But I remember Linda clearly called Chase. So why did he act like he knew nothing about it? Shouldn’t you go back and ask your ‘good sister what really happened?”
