Jared looked at Tracy, his eyes filled with disappointment, “Tracy, when you make a mistake, you should own up to it. Look at you now; you’re no different from a fishwife. Why can’t you be more like Yvonne? She is well-behaved, sensible, and her studies are top-notch. She’s a doctoral graduate from a top university here. Now look at you-what do you have that is better than her, besides being good at schemes?”

He was usually busy with work and rarely home, but he would try to put off work to come home and have a meal with her.

But every time Tracy returned, it ended in an unpleasant scene, and his mood was ruined.

Especially this time, Tracy actually sabotaged their collaboration with Vector Tech. It was too

much.

Thinking this, a flicker of displeasure crossed Jared’s usually calm eyes, “Tracy, you should find a better reason when you lie. What can a Bachelor’s degree holder like you do at Vector Tech? Don’t tell me you followed Yvonne there and your sole purpose was to derail the collaboration we spent half a year negotiating?”

Hearing this, Sarah also looked at Tracy, “Tracy, is what your brother says true?”

“No,” Tracy flatly denied. “I did go to Vector Tech today for an interview. Mr. Zach only took me to the department to report for duty. I am not very close to him.”

To prevent the Xander family from bothering her in the future, she felt it was best to pretend she wasn’t close to Sam.

Otherwise, if any problem arose with their collaboration, they would blame her again. It was too bothersome.

“You’re lying,” Chase accused Tracy bluntly. “Vector Tech only hires graduates with Master’s degrees or higher. How could a Bachelor’s graduate like you get in, much less have Mr. Zach personally escort you to your department?”

He worked in Al research at Xander Corp and knew well that academic qualifications were the stepping stone in the industry.

And a company with such excellent prospects as Vector Tech would absolutely not hire a Bachelor’s graduate.

Tracy, instead of getting angry, laughed at Chase “Didn’t your darling sister say I ruined your collaboration? If she saw it with her own eyes, and you still don’t believe her, what can I do? If you all believe I couldn’t even work there, how could I have poisoned Mr. Zach’s mind? What capability do I have to make him halt your collaboration? Or is it just a habit of yours to

blame me whenever things don’t go your way?”

Chase was momentarily speechless.

Jared wanted to say more, but Sarah interrupted. “Enough! Tracy said it wasn’t her doing. I believe Tracy.”

Then, Sarah turned her attention to Yvonne, “As for you, you’re not a child anymore. When problems arise, you should look at your own actions first. Weigh your own capabilities before you act. Stop blaming others when things go wrong. Do you think exaggerating the story to them solves the problem? Or is it that you aren’t trying to solve the problem at all, but only trying to solve Tracy?”

She had seen clearly that Yvonne intentionally came to provoke trouble. Every time Tracy returned home, that girl would act up and try to cause a disturbance.

It pained her to see it. The reason she hadn’t spoken up for Tracy before was that she knew Tracy could handle herself.

But that didn’t mean they could randomly accuse Tracy in front of her. That was something she absolutely would not tolerate.

Yvonne was startled by Sarah’s sharp gaze. She cried, explaining, “No, Grandma, I wasn’t trying to accuse Tracy. I just…”

Faye quickly stepped in to counsel Tracy, “Mom Yvonne only had good intentions. Tracy could have just refused the gift. Why accuse Yvonne?”

“Tracy, if you don’t want to work, you can move back home. There’s plenty to eat and drink here. We won’t mistreat you.”

“Don’t say things like that anymore. You’ll hurt your two brothers’ feelings. What’s done is done. Let’s let bygones be bygones.”

Though Faye said that, she desperately wanted Tracy to go away and never come back.

Yvonne walked up, linking her arm with Tracy’s and smiled, “Yes, come back home. We sisters can keep each other company. You should move back.”

Tracy violently yanked her arm away from Yvonne, “A ‘bygones be bygones’ indeed! My mother trusted you and took pity on you. She found you a job and had my father look after you. And how did you repay my mother? You ended up with my father and even gave birth to Yvonne, the bastard. Don’t think your good life will last. Things that are stolen must eventually be returned. I hope you can still say that when the time comes.”

Faye was a student my mother had once sponsored. She studied secretarial science from middle school until college graduation.

After college, Mother had Trevor arrange for her to be a secretary in the CEO’s office. Little did she know she was welcoming a wolf into the house.

And now, Faye’s daughter, Yvonne, had stolen her husband. If Mother knew now, she would surely regret her past kindness!

“Tracy, you’ve gone too far! Where are your manners?” Chase reprimanded her. “Apologize to her immediately.”

The guilt that had just flickered in his heart vanished instantly after Tracy spoke those words.

Why is my sister so merciless and unforgiving? She’s a huge disappointment.

Tracy had been so well-behaved when she was a child. Why did she grow up to be so different?

Sarah’s sharp gaze swept over Yvonne, “You opened the gift and then brought it to give to Tracy? What are you up to?”

Chase also looked at the gift box. It clearly looked like it had just been opened. His eyes held a strange look when he looked at Yvonne.

Yvonne bit her lip, looking on the verge of tears. She choked out an explanation, “Grandma, you misunderstood me. I’m not…”

The gift was indeed opened and not something she liked, which was why she was giving it to Tracy, but she would never admit it.

Faye quickly walked over, sheltering Yvonne behind her, “Mom, Yvonne only had good intentions. Tracy could have just refused the gift Why accuse Yvonne?”

Linda brought the last dish to the table, then walked over and pushed Sarah to the dining room, “Dinner is served.”

Tracy then remembered that she was supposed to be cooking oats for Grandma. She rushed into the kitchen. After being busy for a while, she finished preparing the oats.

By the time she carried the oats out, they had already finished eating and gone upstairs. I really am redundant in this house.

She placed the oats in front of Sarah, then untied her apron, and said to Sarah, “Grandma, I’m going back now.”

Linda told Tracy, “It’s late. Why don’t you have dinner before you go?”

Tracy looked at the leftovers on the dining table and shook her head, “No need. I already ate. Grandma, I’m leaving now. You take good care of your injury. I’ll come see you in a few days.”

“Good,” Sarah slipped a bank card into Tracy’s hand, “You came back for me today and suffered insults. Take this money.”

“There’s two hundred thousand in there. Life outside isn’t easy. Buy yourself some good food to replenish your strength. You’re so thin. It hurts me to see it.”

Stroking Tracy’s increasingly gaunt face, Sarah’s eyes were full of heartache. Every time she saw Tracy, it was as if she were seeing her second daughter. That’s why she favored this granddaughter so much.

The Xander family never understood why Sarah would favor Tracy, the granddaughter who grew up away from home, instead of Yvonne, whom she had raised since childhood.

Only Sarah knew that she was trying to compensate Tracy for the debt she owed her second daughter.

The mistake caused by her favoritism could not be undone. She could only try to make Tracy’s life a little better.

Tracy pushed the card back, “Grandma, I can’t take this money. I’m actually doing well outside. You don’t need to worry about me.”

She had money now. Hailey had given her fifty million, which she hadn’t even started spending.

Sarah pushed the card back into Tracy’s hand, “If you don’t take it, it means you look down on my little bit of money. Tracy, please take it. Don’t make me worry.”

Tracy had no choice but to accept it. As she looked up, her stomach churned again.
