Chapter 66

Aleck

When we left for work the next morning, she was still asleep. She was wrapped up in the sheets. I stood looking at her. I gave her a kiss and left. I left Deigo in charge of her. Deigo, Mac and the others returned late last night. Everyone knows she’s not allowed out of the compound. Andrew and Mallory wanted to leave, but we assured them we wanted them to stay.

the drive to the office. Dean’s phone started ringing”

Yes Mac ? When. Okay, get rid of her he said, ending the call.

That

Mac,

crazy woman just showed up at the house, he said, pulling his phone out.

Make e sure no one sees her, especially our parents or Layla. Take her down to the basement and let her join Nella. Good, he said,

ending the call. I looked at him with raised eyebrows.

Better safe than sorry, he said.

Well. Have someone find That fucker Josh, he’s too quiet better safe than sorry, I said

Layla

When I woke up,

up, I was alone in bed. My laptop and a phone were on the bed next to me. I turned the phone on and checked it. Everyone’s

number was there, so I texted them.

GROUP CHAT

Layla: Why didn’t you wake me up?

Aleck: Because you were asleep

Layla: still

Dean: we’ll wake you up tomorrow princess

Layta: okay. I’m going to grab a shower and get some breakfast, Can I..

Dean: Can you what princess?

Aleck: you know you don’t have to be afraid to ask us anything.

Layla: I want to go shopping

Dean:

: No

Aleck: No

Layla: see

自

I threw the phone down and went and grabbed a shower. I heard the phone vibrating, but I left it. I heard it ringing and still hadn’t answered it. I went down and Hilda prepared breakfast for me. Halfway through breakfast, Aunt Pam came and sat beside me.

Good morning sweetheart”

Morning momI said, taking a sip of my coffee. I could tell I surprised her by calling her that. She just smiled.

What did they do? They called me asking where you were 7, she asked, smiling.

I want to go shopping, and they said no, I know they’re scared of something happening to me, but we can’t spend the rest of our lives

like this, I said

If you want to go shopping, then we’ll go shopping, she said, standing up and heading into the living room.

Dean

I was going over some documents when my phone rang, I saw it was mom. I just shook my head. I was about to get berated. This girl was

so stubborn.

Dean: Yes mom

Pamela: Really, where is your brother?

Dean: in a meeting mom. Did something happen?

Pamela: I raised two idiots

o did we

Dean: What did

do?

Pamela: Answer this question. Will she never be able to go anywhere ever again? People get hurt every day. She is no different. How

would you feel if she did that to you and your brother? She can’t work. What is she supposed to do all day in the house? You both sald

you became successful so you could make her happy. Now let her be happy. Let her spend your money. I am taking her shopping. We’ll

take two security guards with us. If you boys are still scared, then get a bloody tracker.

She ended the call, and I was left looking at my phone. Lovely now our own mother turned on us. I called Mac. He walked in at the same

time as Aleck. I pulled the cards out and handed them to Mac.

You and Deigo are with her and mom. They’re going shopping, give these to her, I said with a sigh.

Okay boss, he said, taking the cards and leaving. Aleck sat down and looked at me.

Let me guess, she’s got mom on her side?

Yes, I said wearily.

There’s only so much we can protect her from Dean. I was playing around with the idea of putting a tracker in her ring or a bracelet, he

said.

Mom said the same thing. The only way to calm her ass down is to get her ass pregnant, I said.

Then that’s what it is, he said.

Aleck

During the day, Mac texted to update us. Everything was fine. When we got home that evening, she was quiet. During dinner, she had a whole conversation with Mal, Andrew and Dad but didn’t say a word to us. Later that evening she went to bed late. We ended up using the last bedroom, which was bigger for all three of us. We had our own separate rooms but somehow, we ended up sleeping together.

I was in her room waiting for her. I told Dean she’d try sleeping apart. He didn’t believe it, so we had a bet. I was on the bed in the dark

waiting for her. Around ten, she came into the room, when she switched on the light and turned around and saw me. I heard her mumble

the words shit under her breath.

Did you think you could slip away? Get to bed, I said, standing up.

This is my room, she said.

No, it’s not. You belong in the other room between the two of us. Because of you, Denn just lost fi

What? She asked.

fifty grand, I said, smirking.

I told him you would come here instead of our room, and he said no. Get to bed, Layla, we’ll talk about you turning mom on us laterI

⠀said, pulling her into me and taking her mouth.

I marched her back to our room. When Dean sow her, he just shook his head. She g

got into bed, but she was quiet.

We’ll let you do what you want but, we’re getting a

a tracker for you. Not because we don’t trust you, but because we need that for our

peace of mind,Dean said,

Okayshe said quietly.

Mac and Delgo will always be with you, wherever you go, I said.

Okay”

We came to the conclusion that we couldn’t just lock her away for the rest of our lives.

I’m sorry for turning her against you, but I have nothing to do. I can’t work because I won’t be able to find a job. Mal is at work and so is Andrew. Mom and Dad are sometimes busy, so it’s just me, she said quietly.

We can change that, I said, cupping her breast.

How? She asked in a whisper.

By getting you pregnant that way you’ll be busy, Dean said.

Dean

It’s been two weeks since she came back home. Michelle and the deputy came to visit. Mal and Andrew decided to take the east side of

the house, and we agreed. We had dinner together every night. A few days ago, the FBI came to speak to her. We were with her, she told

them the same thing she told the detective. They said they would be looking for Silas. The only way they’d find him was if they decided to

search the ocean.

She didn’t know that Miranda was in the basement. We would know because if she went to see Nella, she would have said something. That

fucker Josh left New York and was in Connecticut, which meant he took our warning seriously.

We got new rings for her; we asked her if she wanted another wedding, and she said no. Now that she was sure of who she was, she took

full liberty of that. She wasn’t spending money; she was taking some classes or another.

Four weeks ago, she went to some pottery class with mom then Mal joined them. Then they started taking some kind of cooking classes.

We knew because one day we came home and found the kitchen in a mess with Mom, Mal, Hilda and she was in the center of the mess,

I was sitting out back on the patio when Andrew came and sat next to me.

What are they doing? He asked,

I have no idea, and I don’t care. They’re getting along fine and that’s it, I sakl. Aleck came and joined us and handed us a beet. We sat

there drinking and watching them.

Mal is pregnant, Andrew said quietly.

Congratulations, we said,

Thanks, Umm, we’ll be gone this weekend. Margret is going to sell the place and move down here to be closer to Mal. We found a place

for her, he said.

Andrew?

Yea?
