Chapter 4
The moment they saw what happened, Jayden and the other two immediately rushed over to stop the newcomer from entering.
“Do you
know that this is Miss Lauren Hanson’s VIP ward? She’s the heiress of the Hanson family! Do you have a death wish for barging in like this?”
My mind was in a haze, but I still tried to cry out for help in desperation.
The newcomer, a man, ignored all three of them and rushed straight to my side.
“Lauren, what happened to you?!”
Jayden’s eyes narrowed when he realized the man knew me, and he immediately tried to intervene. “You must be an employee working for the Hansons, right? My wife is injured and unconscious. I’m in charge of everything regarding the company now.”
After hearing that, the man stood up straight and glared furiously at all three of them. “So, you’re the orphans Lauren took in for fun? And you even rose from the dead… What a miracle. There’s no place for you here! Get out!”
And then, he pressed the emergency button.
Jayden, Jesse, and Joel’s expressions turned dark when they realized the doctors and nurses would be here soon.
“You’re the one who needs to leave. If you interfere with our affairs, you’ll be the Hanson family’s enemy!”
The man let out a sneer and ignored their threats. He lifted me gently, as if no one else was there, and pinched my palm. The pain jolted me, giving me the strength to speak.
“Shanan… They want to peel the skin off my face…and graft it to a maid…working for my family…”
Shanan’s hands curled into fists instantly, and he punched Jayden’s face hard.
“The Hanson family raised you! How can you torture Lauren like this?! From now on, the Hanson family will take back everything they have given you. Go back to being orphans in an orphanage, where you belong!”
After our family adopted the Scott brothers, all three of them had been living in luxury just like I did. Nothing scared them more than having their past as orphans exposed.
Hearing Shanan’s brutal words, Jayden immediately retaliated together with Jesse and Joel.
But in just an instant, all three pampered young men were smacked to the floor.

Jayden moaned in pain, but he still remembered Nellie’s face. “Lauren, I’ve never asked you for anything in my life. Nellie saved me… You should repay her on my behalf! I just want your skin! Is that too much to ask for?!”
After Jayden’s words reminded them of her, Jesse and Joel turned their thoughts to Nellie as well.
“Lauren, you’ve lived your whole life spoiled. You have no idea how hard it is for people at the bottom to climb up. Why can’t you show a little empathy and save Nel’s life?”
“She’s a naive young woman who values her appearance. If there’s a scar on her face, she will never be able to accept it!”
I sipped some water from the glass Shanan was holding, fighting back against the drowsiness. Yet, I could still feel the frigidity in my heart.
“Is it my fault that Nellie’s born poor? Do you think I don’t care about my looks just because Nellie does?” I shot back.
Only now did Shanan manage to see the wounds all over me. His hands trembled as he held mine. “Lauren… What happened to you? Did they do this to you? Just rest. I’ll get justice for you, even if I have to sacrifice my life!”
My eyes welled with tears as I felt the warmth coming from Shanan’s palms.
In my past life, I had been very brash. My father had always worried that I would suffer if I married into another family. To ensure I would be able to live life without any constraints, he allowed me to pick out a few orphan boys so that even if I refused to marry, I would still have
someone to accompany me.
Jayden, Jesse, and Joel had been by my side since I was little. They would use tricks to edge out Shanan all the time. I was too young to see through them; in the end, I eventually broke things off with Shanan for Jayden.
