“Pray for yourself, truly pray for yourself.”
She felt like a drowning woman barely keeping her own head above water.
It was obvious Lucas would come for her next.
Megan tried to slip away quietly, but Lucas‘ sharp eyes caught her. “Megan, stay right where you are.”
Her body stiffened.
She snapped to attention like a soldier. “Don’t worry, my dear cousin, I’ll stand right here.”
Leon had been unhappy with Lucas‘ tone toward Megan, but the word cousin instantly brought him back
to reality.
So, this man was her cousin?
Didn’t that make him his future cousin–in–law?
Leon’s expression changed at once, and the look he gave Lucas turned deferential.
The other women noticed too, and in that instant understood. Aurora and this godlike man were clearly
together.
It was obvious none of them had a chance.
Staying here any longer would be pointless.
Aurora gave an awkward smile. “Lucas, don’t be so angry.”
“Is that so? Then you’d better give me a reasonable explanation for why you’re here.” Lucas‘ smile was
dark and crooked.
Aurora tried to soften things. “Why don’t we go home first? I’ll explain everything then.”
Lucas narrowed his eyes, danger flashing within. “You’d better tell me the whole truth.”
Aurora nodded seriously. “Don’t worry, I won’t hide anything from you.”
“You’d better not.” Lucas‘ gaze stayed cold.
He pulled Aurora by the hand and left.
Seeing this, Megan finally let out a breath of relief.
Good, maybe this meant her cousin would let her off the hook.
But the next second, she knew she had been far too naïve.

As Lucas passed her, he tossed out a single line: “You’d better watch yourself.”
The meaning was so obvious that if she still didn’t get it, she really would be a complete fool.
Megan’s small frame trembled, and she was nearly in tears.
This time she was truly doomed.
Dragging Aurora into a place like this–who knew how her cousin would report it back?
Her parents would surely dock her allowance again. She barely had much to begin with, and now it would
be even worse.
And whatever Lucas said, her parents always listened.
It seemed she had no hope at all for the near future.
Leon watched her, completely confused, and stepped forward to ask, “Why do you look so terrified of your
cousin?”
“Of course I’m terrified!” Megan suddenly shouted. “You don’t know how scary he is–he’s practically a
tyrant.”
Leon flinched at her outburst, unsettled by her reaction. “What exactly did he do to you?”
Megan was almost crying. “Whenever he complains to my parents, they cut my allowance. That’s tyrant
behavior! I’ll never understand why they believe everything he says.”
Leon was speechless.
He felt like he was being set up, but he had no proof.
The nonsense Megan was spouting left him completely at a loss for how to comfort her.
“Then why’s he so angry?” Leon finally asked.
Megan waved her hand helplessly. “Because I brought his wife out clubbing, of course.”
