Chapter 1194
That meant it wouldn’t be long before she could step into the role of General Manager.
As long as she secured Daniel’s project, the rest would fall into place.
“Mom, are you serious about this?” Tessa still couldn’t quite believe it–Grace had made her director so quickly.
She had expected at least a longer wait.
“Of course I’m serious.” Grace didn’t hesitate. “I don’t go back on my decisions. Since I’ve named you director, do the job well.”
Tessa frowned with worry. “But what about the shareholders?”
She knew well enough that the shareholders had always opposed her and Grace.
Now, with Grace suddenly appointing her director, those same people would be furious.
That was what troubled her–how would Grace handle them? Would they ever be satisfied?
Grace saw straight through her concern.
“You don’t need to worry about that. I have my own plans. This company is not theirs to run. As long as I sit in this chair, they can want whatever they please, but nothing will pass beyond me.”
Reassured by her mother’s firmness, Tessa finally let herself breathe.
She nodded earnestly. “Mom, I promise I won’t let you down.”
“It’s fine, just do your best.” Grace patted her shoulder.
Truthfully, she had no great expectations of Tessa securing the project.
If she did, it would be ideal. If she didn’t, well–that was only to be expected.
After all, Tessa had never truly handled company affairs. To expect her to win over someone as difficult as Daniel was asking too much.
“Alright, that’s enough for now. Go on, you can take up the post this afternoon or tomorrow.”
Grace waved her hand–this time she truly needed to rest.
After being disturbed by Jason, then by Tessa, and earlier by those old vultures, her strength was nearly
drained.
Sensing it, Tessa wisely withdrew. “Then Mom, rest well. I won’t bother you anymore.”

“Alright. If anything comes up, remember to contact Jason.”
Tessa nodded, then finally left the office.
When the door clicked shut, Grace opened her eyes and stared at the closed door, a sigh slipping from her lips.
She couldn’t tell whether placing Tessa in this role would prove a blessing or a curse.
But at this point, it was the only option left. She could only gamble, treating a dying horse as if it might
still run, and hope it worked.
Even if those old men came pressing again, she could still hold them off for a while.
And Tessa was right–she couldn’t hide behind her forever.
If something happened to her one day, what would become of Tessa then?
Perhaps she hadn’t thought it through before, but letting her daughter gain some experience earlier might not be a bad thing.
Of course, she hoped Tessa would succeed in securing this project.
If she did, the old men would have fewer words to throw at them, and Tessa’s path forward would be
much smoother.
But Tessa herself had no idea how much Grace had fretted over her.
Leaving the office, her eyes glinted with the trace of a smile.
