She didn’t trust her mother anymore, not after everything that had happened.

“I just thought it’d be nice for you and my son–in–law to come home for a meal, that’s all. Nothing else.” 

She looked so calm and harmless that, for a moment, it really did seem like she was just asking them over for 

dinner. 

Aurora studied her closely for a while, then finally sighed and nodded. “Alright. I’ll bring him back when we have time.” 

“That’s good. Just let me know in advance. I’ll cook all your favorite dishes.” 

Aurora’s expression flickered slightly. Did her mother even remember what she liked to eat? 

“Fine. If that’s all, I’ll get going.” 

She didn’t want to drag the conversation out any longer. 

On her way back, Aurora kept thinking–had her mother really changed? Or was this sudden warmth only because of Lucas‘ status and influence? 

After all, in Ravenshore, no one would pass up the chance to be associated with the Carter family. 

A trace of cold determination glimmered in her eyes. Whatever Grace’s motives were, she wouldn’t let anyone 

use Lucas or hurt him. 

He was her man. And since she’d chosen to build a life with him, she wouldn’t back down halfway.

After a few more polite words, they ended the call just as Lucas pushed the door open. 

He usually never entered while she was on the phone. 

“Work call?” he asked casually. 

“Yes,” Aurora replied. “We’re starting filming next Wednesday.” 

“That’s coming up fast.” 

Aurora nodded, a faint sigh escaping her lips. 

It struck her that it had been almost half a year since she left the Walton Corporation. 

No wonder seeing her mother again earlier that day had felt so surreal. 

“By the way, when I met with my mom, she said she’d like us to come home for dinner sometime when we’re free.”
