“If you keep being this lazy, what am I supposed to tell your parents?” 

After sending the second message, Aurora waited for a while but still got no response. 

It was already close to ten o’clock. Even if Megan had overslept, she should’ve been up by now. Besides, she had never been late for work before, so what was going on today? 

Meanwhile, Megan was at the hospital, keeping Leonard company. 

When she finally saw Aurora’s messages, she quickly found a moment to call back. 

Aurora answered almost immediately, her voice sharp with concern. “Megan, it’s already past ten! How are you still sleeping? You-” 

Before she could finish, Megan cut in anxiously. “Aurora, I’m not sleeping. I’ve been up for a while.” 

“Then why didn’t I see you at the studio?” Aurora asked, puzzled. “Did you forget you’re supposed to be at work today? It’s Monday.” 

“I didn’t forget,” Megan said quickly. “Don’t worry, I just have something to deal with.” 

“What could possibly be so important that you’d skip work?” 

Aurora’s tone grew stern. Maybe she had been too lenient with Megan lately. The girl had promised to change, to start improving herself and Aurora had taken her words seriously, even making it a point to keep her on track every day. 

But right now, Megan sounded exactly the same as before–unmotivated, making excuses, avoiding responsibility. The thought made Aurora’s frustration rise. 

Before she could say more, Megan hurried to explain. “Aurora, you’ve got it wrong this time. I’m at the hospital.” 

“What? You’re at the hospital?” Aurora shot up from her chair, her voice suddenly high with worry. “Are you hurt? Are you alright? Why didn’t your parents tell me anything?” 

Megan could hear the concern in her tone, and her heart softened. “No, it’s not me. It’s Leonard.” 

“Leonard?” Aurora froze for a second. The name caught her off guard. After all, she hadn’t heard from him in quite some time. 

Ever since Aurora started the new studio, she’d only seen Leonard once–on opening day. Other than that, they’d barely crossed paths. 

Her voice softened with concern. “How did it even happen? How could he suddenly get into a car accident?” 

If she remembered correctly, Leonard had also been in an accident around the time of the studio’s grand opening. Could the two incidents be connected? Or was someone targeting him? 

Her mind immediately started racing, thoughts branching in every direction.

Megan, however, didn’t seem to share her suspicions. “I’m not too sure either. When I came to see him yesterday, he was already in the hospital. I rushed over as soon as I heard.” 

Aurora frowned. “Why are you the one staying with him? Where are his parents?” 

“They’re here too,” Megan replied quickly. “But I figured having one more person around to help wouldn’t hurt.” 

Something about it still didn’t sit right with Aurora, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. 

She was just about to ask more when Megan’s hurried voice came through the line. “Aurora, I’ll call you later, okay? Something just came up here. I’ve got to go.” 

“Hey, wait-“} 

Before Aurora could finish, the line went dead.
