Lucas froze. Her words hit hard. 

She was right. 

If not for him, Yvonne would never have appeared in her life, and none of this would be happening now. 

He hadn’t realized it at first, but hearing Aurora say it out loud made it undeniable.

Still, he told himself he could handle it. He believed he could keep her safe, so he never worried about it.

He could handle everything she was going through for her.

“You saw the show just now, didn’t you? Since you knew I was joining it and Yvonne turned out to be one of the judges, what exactly did you do about it?” 

Lucas froze where he stood. 

For a moment, he forgot why he’d even come or what he’d wanted to say. Aurora’s words cut deep–sharp, direct, and impossible to ignore. 

But she wasn’t wrong. Every word she said stripped away the pretense he’d been hiding behind. 

The truth was, he had done nothing. He had only come here hoping she would eventually forgive him, but now even that felt meaningless. 

So maybe it was better to just let her see for herself what he really was. 

“And what did you actually do?” Aurora asked, her voice cool but laced with sarcasm.
