At the mention of “prison,” Joseph was reminded of what he had gone through.
At the beginning, he truly wanted to be with Aurora.
But this ungrateful woman had no appreciation at all.

“You really have the nerve to bring up prison with me?”

The woman in front of him was nothing more than a venomous snake whose tail had finally slipped into view.
Joseph leaned back slightly, slipping into that familiar, careless playboy posture from before.
He even lit a cigar at his leisure, pressing it between his lips.
Then, he blew a puff of thick smoke right at Aurora, the provocation unmistakable.
The swirling smoke made Aurora frown. She didn’t quite understand what Joseph was trying to do.
She noticed it too–he wasn’t quite the same as before.
There was something more elusive about him now.
She had been observing him for a while but still hadn’t found anything worth noting.
Joseph suddenly spoke. “So, you think I shouldn’t have come to you just because you had me thrown in prison?”
Aurora didn’t follow his line.
Striking first had its advantages, but if she pressed him now, Joseph would probably explode.
She decided to wait and see what he really wanted to say.
Why did he seem so moody lately?
Aurora frowned. She never liked the smell of nicotine.
But Joseph knew that, and still leaned in deliberately, enjoying his little game.
Pretending not to know, he blew another stylish smoke ring.
This time, the smoke circled around her and filled her nose.
Seeing her irritated expression only made Joseph grin with amusement.
He did it on purpose.
He liked watching her grow annoyed.
If she hated it so much, then he’d drag her down with him.
“What’s the matter, Miss Walton? Why the frown and silence?”
