Chapter 12

Edwina just gave a faint, almost indifferent smile and didn’t say other word.

It wasni her who saved Maberly Fashion. It was Pauline, who stood up for her, that really turned things around

If Pauline hadn’t spoken up for her, Edwina wouldn’t have bothed to get involved at all.

She wasn’t afraid of trouble, but she knew the saying the tallester catches the most wind Maberly Fashion was still part of the Gibson Group, and even though it was a lost cause, she couldn’t afford to make a scene. Otherwise, she’d definitely draw unwanted attention.

Pauline, if Maberly Fashion really comes back from the dead, just keep it quiet at work. Don’t mention I gave you the design, or that I had anything to do with it, Edwina said

Pauline frowned, her eyes puzzled.

Why? It’s your achievement, not mine. I wouldn’t dream of stealing your thunder, she replied.

After wasting her days away for so long. Pauline finally felt like she had something to look forward to. It was Edwina who gave her a reason to try again.

I’m not looking to be in the spotlight,” Edwina said, leaving it at that. She left the mall and made her way to Brewer Apothecary to check how things were going with the lattice wee

Tristian couldn’t help but comment, Wow, you really care about this, huh?

Don’t worry. I’ve already found the Lattice Weed. It just needs some time to be nurtured in the glass vessel. You’ll have to be patient.”

When Edwina got back to the villa, she saw Helene busy buttering up Gloria.

Mom, I just realized how hard you and Dad worked at the company. It must’ve been so tough for you guys,Helene said, her voice full of admiration.

Gloria nodded, clearly pleased. Helene, you’ve really grown up

Helene was about to keep showing off, but the moment Gloria spotted Edwina, she immediately dropped Helene and went straight over to greet her.

Edwina, what took you so long? Why didn’t you come back with Helene?Gloria asked.

Helene, worried Edwina might spill the beans about her working in the research department, quickly jumped in, Edwina and I are on different projects, Mom. Next time, I’ll make sure to help her out so she can get home earlier.”

It sounded like sisterly concern, but Helene was clearly throwing shade at Edwina, implying she couldn’t handle her work and that was why she was late.

Darius chimed in, Edwina, the Gibson Group is a tough place work. If it’s too much for you, you can always come back home.

We own all kinds of companies, big and small. Take your pick see if anything catches your eye.”

Edwina thought, Maybe this is my shot to leave the Gibson Group and cut down on those awkward runins with Kelvin

She was just about to speak when Cloria cut her off.

Let Edwina stick it out at the Gibson Group a bit longer. If she handle the workload, she can always get a couple of

secretaries to help her out Glona said.

Kelvin’s a good kid. If Edwina really can’t stand him, she can jus come back home, she added.

Kelvin was every girl’s dream guy in Grindelgoodlooking, filthy rich, and totally above board. He wasn’t like those other trust fund brats always chasing skirts. Not a single scandal ever liked him to any woman.

Gloria didn’t give a damn about the Gibson family’s power or status. Kelvin was the real prize in her eyes, the perfect guy for her girl

Helene stood off to the side, not a flicker of emotion on her face, but inside, jealousy was eating her alive.

Why should she get everythingHelene seethed inwardly. I was the first one in this family. This home was always supposed

to be mine.

Ever since she was little, everyone told her, You’re the Simmons family’s only daughter. You’ll inherit it all, the endless wealth, the unrivaled honor.”

But now, it wasn’t hers alone anymore.

Gloria’s intentions couldn’t be more obvious. She was basically pushing Edwina and Kelvin together, hoping they’d hit it off

become a couple. And now Helene was supposed to just hand Kelvin over and watch Edwina take everything.

Why should I give up what’s supposed to be mine? Helene raged inside.

Since Gloria had already made her wishes known. Edwina couldn’t bring herself to refuse. She worried that even if Gloria didn’t say anything, she’d still be hurt deep down. It’s fine. I can handle it,Edwina said.

The next morning, Edwina made her way to the Gibson Group. As soon as she stepped into her office, she noticed a figure waiting in the corner.

Instinctively, she tensed up, ready to defend herself, but forced herself to stay calm.

This isn’t a battlefield, and no mercenaries are going to show up here, she reminded herself.

Suddenly, with a few loud pops, glittering streamers rained down on her head, and the sweet scent of cake filled the air.

Edwina, you’re a lifesaver!Leander, who’d been all stiff and serious yesterday, was now lined up with Pauline and intern Madeline, all three bowing together to Edwina.

Yesterday, Pauline brought back the designs, and with the main roblem solved, the rest, like reaching out to the factory. was routine for them. They pulled an allnighter to get the Raw Silhouette summer collection for Maberly Fashion ready.

To everyone’s shock, just posting the final design previews online made them go viral overnight.

Even bigname designers were sharing Maberly Fashion’s official release, and preorders on shopping apps shot past everything they’d sold in the last three years combined

Edwina brushed the colorful streamers off her shoulders, not que used to all their enthusiasm and excitement.

Ever since she started out in design, going viral and hitting it big was just another Tuesday for her. Even the whole Ash Wings just assumed she’d always be mumber one, so no one ever really celebrated or got hyped about it

Their little celebration might’ve been simple, but it still hit Edwa right in the feels when she least expected it.

Thanks,” she said softly, and for her, that was already a rare moment of gratitude.

Pauline cut a shee of cake for Edwina. It’s just a little something from us, she said. finally starts raking in rash, we’ll totally treat you right.”

Edwina took the cake. She usually couldn’t stand sweets, but this cake taster amazing right now.

She didn’t forget to remind everyone. Only the four of us know about this, so keep it under wraps. Don’t breathe a word to anyone else.”

That afternoon, the Gibson Group’s fashion team had a meeting Pauline, Leander, and Madeline all headed off, leaving Edwina by herself in the office.

Edwina preferred to stay out of the limelight, and though nobody really knew her reasons, Pauline and the others didn’t give her a hard time about it.

Edwina got up to use the restroom. As soon as she walked into a tall, she heard people whispering outside.

Did they figure it out yet?one voice asked.

Nope, it almost turned into a shouting match. Pauline’s still tough as nails. She’s not backing down and refuses to hand over the designs,” the other replied.

And Nocturne Designs, come on! Maberly Fashion already wen public with it. Handing it over to Nocturne now just doesn’t make sense,” the first person complained.

What can you do? The new Simmons heiress is at Nocturne Designs, handling brand operations. She’s real tight with Kelvin, the second person said.

Pauline was practically on the chopping block. How’s she supposed to go up against Helene at Nocturne Designs?one of them sneered.

Edwina shoved the stall door open so hard it startled the two people outside.

But when they met Edwina’s gaze, neither of them dared to say mother word.

Edwina left the restroom, but quickly doubled back

Where’s the meeting happening?she asked.

Who?one of them replied.

Pauline, Edwina clarified.

Topfloor conference room, the other answered.

Edwina didn’t hesitate. She turned and headed straight for the pfloor conference room.

If what those two were saying was true, Helene was really pushing it. Maberly Fashion was the last shot at a future for Pauline and Leander; there was no way Edwina was going to let yone snatch it away from them.
