Kelvin gave Edwina a playful look, then took a beautifully wrapped gift box from the cabinet and handed it to her.Â
“Edwins, your first assignment as my secretary is to join me at a arty tonight, as my date, he said,Â
“Sure,” Edwina replied casually, not bothered at all.Â
The gossiping crowd outside the office had their jaws dropping again.Â
It was the first time Kelvin had ever hired a secretary, and the fit time he’d ever brought a date to a party. Both of these firsts were all because of Edwina.Â
The news that Kelvin was taking Edwina to the party blew up the company group chat. Helene’s grip on her phone tightened with envy, while the folks in Nocturne Designs‘ operations department couldn’t stop talking about it whenever they had a free moment.Â
“Looks like Edwina’s already got one foot in the door to becoming Mrs. Gibson, someone whispered.Â
“She’s gorgeous, talented, and she’s totally got the boss eating out of her hand, another added.Â
Helene had had enough.Â
She stormed into the office and shouted, “What are you all gossiping about? Is your work done?Â
“Anyone who doesn’t finish sorting out the operations stuff is staying late!”Â
The employees fell silent, but they were all complaining in their heads. She wants us to finish three days‘ worth of work in one day? Since she joined, all she’s done is buy us snacks. Has she even done any actual work herself?”Â
Peter had already arranged for Edwina to have a workstation in the research department, the closest one to Kelvin’s office.Â
“Why did you put me in the research department?” Edwina asked her gaze frosty as she looked inside.Â
Peter lowered his voice, his words loaded with meaning. “The research department is the one Kelvin cares about most in the whole company, and it’s just steps away from his office.”Â
“So?” Edwina shot back, her voice icy.Â
“Kelvin probably wants to keep an eye on you, all the time,” Peter replied, giving her a knowing lookÂ
Edwina just frowned, staying silent..Â
The room was packed with guys, and when this dainty, fragile–looking girl walked in, they just gave her a quick look and went right back to whatever they were doing.Â
Peter tried to get everyone’s attention and introduce Edwina, buno one even bothered to listen.Â
He explained awkwardly. They’re always like this. Once they start working, nothing else matters.Â
“Even Kelvin gets ignored by them sometimes. Just grab a seat big the door.”Â
Edwina noddled.Â
This office is perfect. No one will bother me here she thought, eling genuinely satisfied.Â
She took a seat and casually pushed the test tubes aside to clear me space on the desk.Â

“When is Mr. Gibson going to stop sending us random people we don’t need?”Â
Adrian kept muttering to himself as he walked off, still annoyed.Â
Peter just smiled and walked off, too.Â
Edwina opened the gift box, and inside was a strapless gown that sparkled with every color under the sun. Even in broad daylight, it was absolutely radiant.Â
It was the Rainbow Trail Dress.Â
This dress had once fetched a mind–blowing 10 million dollars as an international auction.Â
Back when she was just learning the ropes of design, this was one of her earliest creations. She never thought it would circle back to her after all these years.Â
Kelvin might be a pain, but at least he’s not stingy, Edwina thought to herself.Â
Suddenly, frantic voices erupted from the lab.Â
Track A is down, Track B is down. Only Track C is still working researcher shouted.Â
The docking equipment on Track C won’t connect. What’s going on?” another called out.Â
“We can’t fix it. We can’t fix it/ Three months of hard work, wasted just like that, someone wailed.Â
“Why is this happening?” another researcher blurted out, panic clear in their voice.Â
Panic spread through the lab like wildfire.Â
For the last two years, they’d been pouring their efforts into a private satellite project, Zadena No. 1, with funding from the top brass and corporate partners.Â
The initial investment was huge, and after six months of work, this was already their third flop. The team was on the edge of giving up, and even the money Kelvin had allocated was running dry.Â
R&D was a money pit–several hundred million dollars, just up smoke.Â
Even though Kelvin wouldn’t blame them, none of them had the fare to keep hanging around the companyÂ
Edwina walked over and, through the glass window, saw the teams anxious faces. It was strangely familiarÂ
Back when I first started Ash Wings, wasn’t I just like them? Woing in the labs, just as anxious as they are now, she thoughtÂ
to herself.Â
Edwina couldn’t help but feel a line sorry for them. Track A an Track B are line,” she said.Â

A few of the researchers turned to look at Edwina, eyes witle, clearly thinking. Does she even know what she’s talking about?Â
Edwina didn’t care about their attitude and continued, “Your problem is with the simulated environment. The parameters for all three tracks are off. Track C only worked by pure luck. Dip the df particle value in the environment by 30%, and increase the friction data for Track C“Â
The labs went silent, and everyone was just staring at her. Edwin aid calmly, “Believe it or not, your callÂ
Adrian said, his voice heavy. We’ve got nothing to lose. Let’s give it a shot.Â
“Lower the di particle value, increase the friction on Track CÂ
3.21 Everyone held their breath.Â
There was a sharp click in the simulation room. That was the sol of all three tracks and the satellite finally locking in place.Â
Wait, did we just… succeed?” one of the researchers blurted out, otally stunned.Â
“We did it! We did it! Everyone lost it, shouting and celebrating ke crazy.Â
Adrian dashed out of the lab, and before Edwina knew it, he picked her up and lifted her off the ground. She instinctively tensed, ready to break free, but then a bunch of others rushed on, and together they hoisted her up, tossing her into the airÂ
They weren’t trying to hurt her; they were just celebrating. Edwa let go of her instincts to fight, looking awkward and a bit helpless.Â
“Okay, you can let me down now,” she said, trying to keep her coLÂ
Edwina steadied herself, feeling a bit dizzy from all the tossing around.Â
Adrian, who’d just been all impatient and cocky with Edwina, suddenly latched onto her hand, acting like a total clingy fanboy.Â
“Ma’am! You’re a god!” he shouted, looking at her like she was hipersonal legend,Â
“How the hell do you know all this? You’re insane. We’ve messed up so many times; if you hadn’t stepped in, we’d still be stuck,” Adrian stammered, voice shaking.Â
Then, he was sobbing so hard he could barely get the words out.Â
The rest of the lab geeks behind him started crying too, and so they were all hawling their eyes out, ending up in a giant group hugÂ
After a while, the guys finally managed to pull themselves togetr.Â
Adrian started introducing the team.Â
There were Adrian, Brian, Calvin, and DonaldÂ

Peter was stunned to see Edwina still rocking her daytime look. Where’s the dress Kelvin gave you? Why arent you dressed up”Â
“Oh, I forgot,” Edwina said, totally unfazed. She just shrugged, hopped in, and took the seat beside KelvinÂ
Kelvin didn’t even flinch. “Whatever, T–shirts work just fine,” he joked, shifting a little closer to EdwinaÂ
Edwina casually leaned away, her expression unreadable. “Just came out of the lab. Wouldn’t want to mess up your clothes.Â
