Chapter 24

Helene forced herself to suppress the rage that was growing wildly inside her and returned to the bedroom.

The door closed behind her, and the smile she had forced onto her face vanished in an instant.

Lanette carried over a cup of coffee and spoke carefully. Ms. Simmons, it’s very late. You should rest first. No matter what happens, it can wait until tomorrow. Your health matters most.”

Wait until tomorrow?Helene sat down in front of the vanity mirror and spread her palm open. The skin had been torn by her long nails, and fresh blood marks were seeping out.

She gritted her teeth. Tomorrow. Tomorrow. How many more tomorrows do I have to endure Edwina? I can’t wait

anymore.

I want Edwina dead right now. I want that bitch dead right now.

With that, Helene grabbed the cup and smashed it hard onto the floor. Shattered porcelain scattered everywhere.

Lanette didn’t dare say another word. She immediately crouched down to clean everything up, then rushed out of the bedroom in panic, afraid of being dragged into it again.

Helene’s breathing grew heavy, her anger making her chest rise and fall sharply. She stared at her twisted reflection in the mirror, then immediately forced out a stiff, almost deranged smile.

Helene straightened her back. No. I can’t lose control. I am the eldest daughter of the Simmons family.

Edwina is nothing more than an illegitimate child who can’t be made public and can’t even take the Simmons name.

What does one Design Harmony company matter? What I want is the entire Simmons family.”

Helene grabbed a lipstick and wrote the bright red name Edwinaacross the mirror, then drew a vicious X over it.

The lipstick snapped in half. Helene thought, Edwina, we have a long future ahead of us.‘

After staying up all night at the party with Kelvin, Edwina overslept the next morning. When she went downstairs yawning, she found the whole family waiting for her to have breakfast.

Edwina was bare faced, without any makeup, yet her delicate features were still striking.

A trace of guilt appeared in Edwina’s eyes. She said gently, If I wake up late again, you don’t need to wait for me to eat.”

Helene thoughtfully served Edwina a bowl of soup. It’s fine. Edwina, you’re part of this family. Of course we should wait for you to eat,”

Darius nodded with satisfaction. Helene, you’ve really grown up Ivan, buy all the new LV bags and give them to my younger daughter.”

Thank you, Dad,” Helene responded gently and gracefully, but the hand holding the bowl of soup couldn’t stop trembling.

Helene muttered, Edwina gets a whole company tossed her way like it’s no big deal.

And me? All I get are a couple of bags that aren’t even worth mentioning. Even these came from pretending to care about

Edwina‘

Especially the title younger daughter. It stabbed Helene’s heart hard.

Helene really wanted to ask Darius whether so many years of father daughter affection were worth less than a bastard who

Edwina had no interest in watching Helene’s clumsy acting. After breakfast, she headed to Gibson Group.

On the way, her phone notification sounded. It was a friend request from an unknown contact. [Ms. Lennox, I am Aubree Maxwell, general manager of Design Harmony. Please accept.]

Edwina frowned slightly. She didn’t expect Darius to actually mean it. The shares had been transferred yesterday, and today the company was already handed to her.

Edwina accepted the request.

Aubree sent a message. [Ms. Lennox, this is Design Harmony’s first half year work report, including financial and sales reports. Please review.]

Edwina glanced at it briefly, then exited the chat. She didn’t open the files and didn’t reply.

Since Darius had given her contact information to Aubree, it meant she was someone trustworthy who wouldn’t mess things up. Edwina didn’t bother looking at the data.

On the other end, Aubree waited again and again but never received a response.

Aubree had no idea what background this newly appointed president had or what qualifications Edwina possessed.

The only reason she couldn’t object was because the recommendation came directly from Darius.

Still, Edwina not accepting files and not replying clearly showed he didn’t take Design Harmony seriously. Aubree felt dissatisfied. She hated leaders who occupied positions without doing any real work and had no actual ability.

Aubree had worked diligently at Design Harmony for many years as a veteran employee. At that moment, she was already mentally prepared to resign at any time.

When Edwina entered the Gibson Group building, she immediately sensed something off. People passing by glanced at her out of the corners of their eyes and whispered to each other with strange expressions.

Edwina wondered, Could it be that what happened at the wine tasting last night had spread?‘

Edwina had specifically told Felix to block the news as much as possible. And he had promised to pass the word to everyone who attended the banquet. Logically, nothing should have leaked.

So what’s going on here?Edwina thought, frowning in confusion.

Edwina returned to her workstation. A desk was placed outside the research lab, directly across from Kelvin’s office. As long as he opened the door, he could see her every move.

Just as Edwina sat down, a deep and furious voice suddenly burst out from inside the lab. What the hell is this? Who sent this? Who spread it?

This is complete nonsense. It is pure slander. It is ruining our reputation and Edwina’s.”

Hearing her name, Edwina stood up and walked inside to ask what had happened.

Brian wasn’t tall and had a lean build. He pushed his glasses up with his middle finger and tried to stay calm. No idea who sent an anonymous email to the entire company saying that

you”

Edwina asked calmly, Saying what?”

Brian replied, Saying you used your power to bully us and made all four of us cry on your first day here.”

Edwina paused. Made four grown men in the lab cry?‘

Edwina had done things like that before, but it was always standing up for others. There had never been any intentional bullying.

Just because someone sends it, people believe it?Edwina said calmly.

She thought, The people hired by Gibson Group may be all top graduates with brains. How can they believe such nonsense?‘

Calvin opened the email attachment. It was an audio recording. Miserable crying filled the room.

It was from the day the satellite experiment succeeded, when they cried with joy and hugged each other. Mixed in were Edwina’s calm words like stop cryingand what is there to cry about.”

Listening to it like this, it really did sound like she had bullied the four brothers.

Edwina narrowed her eyes and analyzed the situation. Whoever recorded this captured our voices very clearly and only kept this segment.

That person must have waited outside the lab for a long time and deliberately cut the beginning and end to mislead everyone. Can the IP address be traced?”

Calvin nodded. Already checked. It came from the internal network. The company has over ten thousand employees. There is no way to narrow it down.”

Donald suddenly spoke up. This is wild. Who would make up rumors about us crying?”

Edwina was momentarily confused. What is going on with him

Adrian scratched his head awkwardly. Ms. Lennox, don’t mind him. Donald is the youngest here. He grew up in an orphanage sponsored by Mr. Gibson. He’s slow to react and kind of like a sloth.”

Can someone like that do research?Edwina asked.

Brian nodded quickly. Yes, absolutely. His language skills are terrible, but he’s insanely gifted with numbers. Even computers can’t beat him sometimes.”

Donald whimpered, Brian, just tell me which computer to work on. I will work on that one.”

Brian patted his head. Good kid. No work today. We will do it tomorrow.”

Edwina sighed inwardly. This company is truly full of talent.
