Edwina leaned close to the glass container and sniffed lightly. There wasn’t even the slightest trace of lattice weed coming from the bracelet.
So the soft pink hue of the blood ruby bracelet wasn’t washed out at all. This was a blood ruby that had never been used and had never chosen its owner.
The nourishing effects of a newly formed blood ruby were over ten times greater than an ordinary one. making it insanely rare.
Even as the mastermind behind the Ash Wings, Edwina had only ever heard rumors and never laid eyes on one herself.
Edwina flicked her eyes open slightly. Her usually calm face finally showed a flicker of emotion.
Kelvin keenly caught the subtle change in Edwina’s expression. “Since the one at the auction got smashed, this one’s for you.”
Edwina had just reached out to take the bracelet, but as soon as she heard that, she quickly withdrew her hand.
“For me? I never receive a reward without making merit. Just name your price. I’ll buy it,” Edwina said.
Kelvin pressed his lips together, a teasing glint in his eyes. “Looks like you’re loaded, Edwina. It must feel like slumming it to stick around as my assistant.”
“So, are you selling it or not?” Edwina asked.
“Of course,” Kelvin replied. He knew Edwina would never accept the blood ruby for free, so he didn’t bother arguing. “But I have one condition.”
Edwina stayed calm. “Say it.”
“Come with me to see my grandma tomorrow. She’s been wanting to see you,” Kelvin said.
“Sure, that’s easy enough,” Edwina replied without hesitation.
Kelvin’s voice was warm. “I’ll pick you up tomorrow morning. What’s your apartment number at Belleview Gardens?”
‘He’s really determined to find out where I live,‘ she thought. Edwina replied coolly, “No need. I’m staying at a friend’s place tonight. I’ll head over on my own tomorrow.”
Seeing she was firm, Kelvin didn’t push it any further. He gave a resigned nod. “Deal. See you at the hospital
tomorrow.”
Kelvin’s gaze lingered on her as she walked away, a spark of intrigue lighting up his eyes.
Just then, his phone chimed, snapping him out of his thoughts. He glanced at the screen and saw a text

Mobilizing two billion dollars of cash flow in such a short time would be difficult even for a top 50 global corporation. ‘Who exactly is she?‘ Kelvin wondered.
Looking at those numbers, Kelvin smiled. ‘She’s really serious about leaving no entanglements, he thought. There was a trace of affection on his face, one he didn’t even realize himself.
Heading back to the house, Edwina received a call from Oliver. Aside from his work in fashion design, he also managed Ash Wings’s money.
“Hey, did you just buy a battleship or something? That’s a crazy amount to spend all at once,” Oliver said.
Oliver was practically in tears. “You’ve been way too chill lately, not picking up any gigs. Sure, our other projects are making money.
“But we can’t handle you burning through cash like this. Edwina, seriously, you have to stop. Turn back before it’s too late. Our accounts are bleeding dry.”
Edwina rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on from all Oliver’s nagging. “If you keep this up, I might just transfer Kurt to Grindel.”
Oliver immediately shut up. ‘Hell no, I do not want that drama queen anywhere near me,‘ he thought.
Edwina added, “See if there are any decent gigs coming up. I’ll handle them myself.”
“Got it,” Oliver said in a cutesy voice, beaming with joy. “Just keep hustling and grinding, and soon the Ash Wings will go public, and you’ll be the richest person on the planet.”
Oliver was still going on about his big dreams, but Edwina hung up on him.
Back at the house, Edwina handed the blood ruby to Gloria. “Wear this all the time, even when you shower or sleep. It’s good for your health.”
“For me? Really?” Gloria’s eyes went wide as she held the blood ruby with both hands, treating it like it was the most precious thing in the world.
Gloria immediately slipped it onto her wrist, and it fit perfectly. “It’s so pretty.” Gloria was bouncing around like a kid. “Sweetie, thank you. I love you so much.”
Seeing Gloria so joyful, a warm feeling involuntarily surged in Edwina’s chest. ‘Is this what they call the bond of blood? Something that pulls us together, she wondered.
Just then, Helene piped up, “Wow, what a gorgeous bracelet. Where did you get it, Edwina? How much did it cost?”
Helene sidled up, deliberately bringing up the cost. ‘What could a country bumpkin from the sticks possibly give that’s worth anything?‘ she thought.

Helene pulled out two boxes dramatically. “Mommy, these are limited–edition bags I brought back from overseas. And this is for you, Edwina”
Then Helene started passing out designer leather wallets to all the butlers and maids in the house. “Everyone gets one. This is my first big payday, so consider it a gift from me.”
Helene was all smiles and charm, and the staff members were instantly won over by the fancy wallets. They all nodded. “Thank you, Miss Simmons.”
Another maid echoed, “Miss Simmons is truly beautiful inside and out.” These compliments made Helene feel a wave of satisfaction from head to toe.
Helene thought, ‘I want everyone to see how far Edwina is beneath me. And that bitch can never hold a candle to me, no matter how hard she tries.
Gloria’s brows knitted slightly. She wasn’t happy about Helene making such a big show in front of Edwina. She worried that Edwina might feel jealous or bothered by it.
Gloria glanced over her shoulder and found Edwina sitting on the couch, looking perfectly composed.
Edwina kept her gaze lowered, scrolling through her phone game with quick fingers. And she didn’t give Helene’s showy act a second thought.
Gloria felt even more impressed with Edwina. ‘She’s never swayed by material things or personal setbacks. That kind of composure is rare. My Edwina really gets it,‘ she thought.
After showing off, Helene strutted back to Gloria, fishing for praise. “Mommy, did I do the right thing?”
“Of course, Helene. You’ve really grown up,” Gloria said, giving her shoulder a gentle pat. Then she called Ivan
over.
Gloria said, “Let everyone know their bonus is going up by three hundred dollars this month. Make sure they all thank my baby girl properly.”
Helene shot a look at Edwina, thinking, ‘Mommy’s helping Edwina score some points with the staff. But it doesn’t matter.
‘Mom didn’t say all those polite pleasantries on my behalf, and that means my place in this family no longer needs to be proven through such means!
Helene’s smile grew even wider. Gloria went on, “Make sure they thank Helene properly for the bags and the
bonus.”
As the words fell, Helene couldn’t bring herself to smile anymore. She forced herself to keep her composure in front of Gloria and managed to choke out, “Thanks, Mom.”
Ivan got the message. “I’ll let everyone know right away.” Handing out bonuses was just the cover.
The real goal was to make sure all the maids understood who the real lady of this house was.
Helene quickly came up with a lame excuse about having work to finish and rushed off to her room.

Lanette also received the notice. She put on a look of unwavering loyalty.
She said, “Miss Simmons, no matter what anyone else thinks, you’re the true lady of this house in Edwina isn’t even in the same league as you.”
