Chapter 49

Randolph cared about the Luminara satellite more than his own life.

He gave up all the wealth and privilege of the Duncan family, clashed with his father over and over, and was even ready to cut ties with them, just to chase his dream of reaching the stars.

The Luminara satellite was a crucial step for him.

Kelvin nodded. Randolph, rest assured, the Luminara satellite has finished all its simulation tests. Every part is in perfect shape. The only thing left is to hand it over to you.”

Good!Randolph couldn’t help but beam, his smile full of heartfelt joy.

Conrad looked smug. Edwina, what else do you have to say? Better get ready to apologize to my apprentice!”

He whipped out his phone, ready to record Randolph Duncan’s recovery, Just one needle, and a dying man was revived. At this moment, he was already feeling like the king of medicine.

He had just hit record when Randolph clutched the edge of the bed and suddenly spewed out a gush of blood.

Randolph!Kelvin yelled, dashing over in a panic.

Glenn just stood still.

Conrad was stunned speechless.

But it wasn’t just a mouthful of blood. It just kept pouring out, completely out of control.

Edwina’s brows knitted tightly. Conrad had moved so fast with the needles that she hadn’t had a chance to stop him.

Kelvin’s pricey suit was covered in blood and Randolph’s nasty vomit, but he didn’t flinch or show any disgust. He just kept supporting Randolph, holding him steady.

Edwina’s eyes flickered in surprise. Usually, Kelvin always acted like a clean freak, but he did not care about it at that moment.

Don’t put him down yet. Just keep holding him like this and keep him in this position,Edwina said urgently.

If they laid Randolph down, it would only make the energy flow worse, and he’d end up bleeding even more.

Edwina’s slender fingers quickly pulled out the needle from Randolph’s forehead.

Then, she fished out a few more fine needles from her pocket and carefully inserted them into Randolph’s back of the hand, palm, and scalp.

Conrad’s hand shook as he clutched his phone.

With all his medical training, he knew this much blood was anything but normal. Conrad thought, Did I

make a mistake? Was I really wrong?

No. This is impossible. How could I lose to her?‘

Conrad charged in, arms waving wildly, desperate to get closer.

Edwina, move. He’s my patient, I can save him, I swear!Conrad yelled, his voice trembling with panic and pride.

Get lost!Kelvin just kicked Conrad aside.

Edwina’s voice was cold. Glenn, why are you just standing there? Get him out of here!”

Sure thing, Miss Lennox. Your wish is my command,Glenn said, a smirk playing at the corner of his mouth.

Then, with a ruthless grip, he grabbed Conrad and literally tossed him out of the room.

Edwina, can you save him?Kelvin asked, his voice tight with worry.

I could have before, but now, I’m not sure,Edwina admitted honestly.

Randolph was already in bad shape, and after all the botched treatments from those other doctors and Conrad, keeping him alive was going to be a real uphill battle.

The way he sat up and talked like he was fine just now was his last bit of strength before the end.

At that moment, all Edwina could do was use her acupuncture needles to ease Randolph’s pain and slow the bleeding.

Kelvin kept quiet, not wanting to interrupt Edwina. He thought, Randolph hasn’t even witnessed the Luminara satellite launch yet.

He sacrificed so much for this dream. Is it all just going to be wasted?‘

Seeing the sadness in Kelvin’s eyes, Edwina gently reassured him, her voice soft but determined, I’ll do my best. I promise.”

It was probably the first time she’d ever tried to comfort someone.

The rescue went on for what felt like forever. For three intense hours, Edwina never lost focus, her hands moving nonstop as she swapped needles and kept giving Randolph medicine.

Edwina finally said, It’s safe to lay him down now.

Bring Glenn back in, and get the family doctor to help with Randolph’s blood transfusion.”

There was no way Randolph could fully recover with just acupuncture and herbal medicine alone.

The residence was packed with emergency gear way better than those in a regular hospital. After the blood transfusion, Edwina had to get right back to work.

She needed to operate on Randolph and put tiny support frames inside his narrow blood vessels. Otherwise, she’d just be patching him up on the outside, not really fixing the real problem.

Glenn was led in by a nurse. He looked at Edwina, eyes wide with admiration. Miss Lennox, you’re incredible.

You know how to fight and heal. Any guy who marries you would be blessed beyond measure.”

Edwina’s brows furrowed, feeling uneasy. His words honestly turned her stomach a bit.

The surgery started right at three in the afternoon, with top experts dialed in remotely. Baxter had made sure everything was set up ahead of time.

Edwina didn’t budge for seven straight hours, working tirelessly until she finally got all five stents in place.

Randolph was rolled out of the operating room and moved to a sterile room to recover under close watch.

Edwina peeled off her protective gear and gloves, her forehead slick with sweat.

After standing for so long, even someone as tough as her was starting to feel it. Her legs were shaking, and she could barely keep herself upright.

But just as she was about to collapse, a warm, steady arm slipped around her, holding her up.

A faint scent of eucalyptus drifted to her nose, not like that overpowering cologne Glenn always wore, which just made her want to gag.

It was Kelvin.

Edwina asked, puzzled, You didn’t go see Randolph?”

Kelvin said, his voice firm but his eyes soft with concern, I knew the surgery would go perfectly because you were there.

You look worn out. Let me help you get some rest.”

No need,” Edwina replied, her tone firm.

She wasn’t used to being babied or fussed over. Growing up, she’d never had that kind of care.

She was just something people picked up to take the fall when trouble came. As long as she survived, that was all anyone cared about.

After Anton fell ill, she was completely on her own.

It was inaccurate to call her a wolf since she wasn’t the type to run with a pack.

Let me go, Kelvin,Edwina said, her tone unyielding.

Edwina opened her mouth to argue, but Kelvin simply pressed his finger against her lips, shutting her up before she could get a word out.

Before she could react, Kelvin scooped her up in a bridal carry, holding her close.

Kelvin, put me down. I can walk!Edwina snapped, struggling in his arms.

You’ve been working for almost ten hours today, Edwina. You’re not a machine. Even immortals get tired,” Kelvin murmured.

He gazed down at her in his arms, his voice husky, thick with concern.

Kelvin felt Edwina trying to wriggle free, but he just tightened his grip, making sure she couldn’t escape. She was so drained that she didn’t have the strength to fight him off.

Under the watchful eyes of the staff, Kelvin carried her straight to the bedroom and set her down on the bed.

As soon as her tired body hit the soft mattress, Edwina melted into it. She was so wiped out that she couldn’t even lift a finger.

Kelvin knelt down, gently slipped off her shoes, and pulled the covers over her. Get some sleep. Don’t worry about the sterile room.

I’ve got the best specialists from the state hospital on standby. They’ve got it covered.”

Edwina didn’t answer. Her eyes were already closed, lost to exhaustion.

Kelvin walked out of the bedroom and found Glenn waiting outside, leaning casually against the wall.

Glenn gave

him a teasing smirk. Are you her boyfriend?”

No,Kelvin shot back, his tone cold as ice.

Not your girlfriend? Then I’ll go see her,Glenn said with a smirk, starting toward the door.

Kelvin blocked his way. Excuse me, I’m her fiancé.”

She’s a Simmons?Glenn asked.

He’d always heard about Kelvin’s engagement to the Simmons family and figured it was Helene. He never thought Edwina was a Simmons as well.

This is getting more and more interesting,Glenn mused.

Kelvin warned, Glenn, focus on the Duncan family and keep your hands off Edwina.

You’re not qualified.”
