Even if it was just for a split second, Kelvin felt completely content that Edwina actually cared about him.Â
Kelvin spoke in a gentle voice. “Don’t worry. These guys can’t lay a finger on me.”Â
Randolph got so emotional that he started coughing violently. Kelvin helped him catch his breath and handed him a glass of water.Â
He said, “Mr. Duncan, everyone has their own fate. Don’t be too heartbroken over this.”Â
Randolph’s voice shook as he said, “Let the Duncan family know he died protecting me. Maybe they can help comfort and support his family.”Â
Randolph had always been soft–hearted. He’d known Baxter for more than ten years, and he figured Baxter must’ve just slipped up in a moment of weakness.Â
“No way.” Glenn walked over casually, his eyes cold and indifferent. He showed not the slightest concern for Randolph. Kelvin seemed to care about Randolph than he did.Â
Glenn said, “Uncle, Grandpa always said you were the obedient one. So when did you learn to lie and deceive people?Â
“By the Duncan family’s law, betrayers like him deserve to live.”Â
Randolph was getting even more worked up.Â
Kelvin’s eyes narrowed. “Glenn, you sure it’s smart airing family business in front of outsiders? Guess the Duncan family really doesn’t care about getting caught, huh?”Â
Glenn let out a laugh. “Afraid? Sure, who isn’t? But the Duncan family is located in Hlonds. Folks from Grindel City don’t really get to meddle in our turf, do they?Â
“Mr. Gibson, don’t you think so?”Â
Randolph’s face was grim, his breathing ragged. “Glenn, I know you can’t stand me, but why target an underling like this?Â
“He’s already dead, and now his whole family has no one left to rely on.Â
Glenn glanced at Edwina. “What does that have to do with me? He almost made Edwina think I was the killer. No way I’m letting him off, not by reason or emotion.Â
“Unless Edwina is willing to beg me, maybe I’ll let it slide.”Â
Randolph just couldn’t stand his cocky, reckless, and totally unpredictable ways.Â
“So, Edwina, are you going to step in and help, or are you just going to stand there and watch?” Glenn teased.Â
Kelvin’s eyes flashed dangerously. “Glenn, don’t forget, you’re in Grindel City now, not Hlonds.”Â

Edwina replied, “I’m not getting involved,”Â

Randolph’s face fell again, but he kept quiet. Edwina had already saved his life. He was grateful for that, and he had no right to ask her to get involved.Â
The next second, Edwina said coldly, “Say whatever you want.Â
“When your grandfather asks why you failed to protect your uncle, or if you even bothered to check if the doctor was legit, I can’t wait to see how you talk your way out of that.Â
“Let’s see if you can still run your mouth like you do now.”Â
With that, Edwina turned and walked away, heading back to prepare Randolph’s medicine for the next few days.Â
Glenn shrugged. “Alright, we’ll do it your way, Randolph. Baxter died protecting you.Â
“Uncle, make sure you look after yourself. Didn’t expect your job to be this risky.”Â
Edwina got the medicine ready at the dispensary and told the house staff exactly how to use it.Â
She walked out to the front yard and found Glenn hanging around.Â
Glenn’s face lit up in surprise, his eyes sparkling with that signature charm. He did not expect Edwina to actually come looking for him.Â
Glenn teased, “Hey, gorgeous, what’s up? Did you change your mind and decide you want to get to know me after all?Â
“Honestly, I’m a real softie, super chill. Way better than Kelvin, trust me.Â
“But here’s the thing, I seriously like you. I want to date you, and I want to marry you. The Duncan family’s no less than the Gibsons, you know!”Â
When Kelvin found Edwina, he walked right into Glenn pestering her with his over–the–top, shameless confession.Â
Kelvin’s hand slowly clenched. Without saying a word, he crossed the distance in a heartbeat, wrapped an arm around Edwina, staking his claim loud and clear for everyone to see.Â
He knew Glenn was just playing around, not really serious about the whole confession thing, but it still made Kelvin feel jealous and uncomfortable.Â
Kelvin’s hand tightened just a bit, trying to lead Edwina away, but she was rooted to the spot. No matter what, she wouldn’t move.Â
Glenn kept it playful. “Mr. Gibson, you know what they say. If you have to force it, it’s not worth having.Â
“Since Edwina’s already chosen me…”Â
But before he could finish, Edwina cut him off.Â

Chapter 51Â
Edwina held out her hand, her face as cold as ice. “Baxter’s dead, and Randolph’s still sick.”Â
“So?” Glenn asked, clearly intrigued.Â

Edwina said, “So, you should cover the 600 million dollars in medical bills. Here’s my account number.Â
“Transfer it by 3 PM sharp. If you’re even a minute late, add another 30 million dollars to the total.”Â
Glenn felt speechless.Â
Edwina spun around and left, not even sparing him a second thought.Â
Kelvin’s jealousy disappeared just like that. He gave Glenn a sidelong glance, his brows raised in open mockery.Â
After leaving the courtyard, Kelvin hurried to catch up with her. “Come on, I’ll drive you back.”Â
He added, “Cabs are pretty much impossible to find out here.”Â
Edwina waited for a while, but there wasn’t a single car in sight, not even a private car passing by.Â
Oliver had dropped her off and promised he’d wait outside, but after she ended up spending the night inside, he just ditched her without so much as a call.Â
‘Typical Oliver. So much for being dependable,‘ she thought.Â
Left with no choice, Edwina got into Kelvin’s car.Â
Kelvin started up the car, his tone easygoing. “So, Edwina, want me to drop you off at Belleview Gardens?”Â
That was the place she’d lied about before, and he actually remembered that detail. ‘Seriously, does this guy have a memory like an elephant?‘ Edwina thought.Â
Not bothering to respond to his teasing, Edwina just closed her eyes to rest.Â
Kelvin closed the back window, set the AC to a cozy, sleep–friendly temperature, and queued up “Hopes” on the playlist.Â
“You like this song too?” Edwina asked.Â
Kelvin just smiled and shook his head.Â
Edwina asked, “Then why…”Â
“I know you like it,” Kelvin replied.Â
Edwina closed her eyes again, thinking, ‘Ever since he found out I’m the Simmons family’s daughter, he’s been acting so weird lately.‘Â
The car pulled up in front of the Simmons estate. Edwina got out and walked straight into the house without even glancing back.Â

Kelvin muttered under his breath, “Heartless.”Â
Still, he headed back to the office with a great mood.Â

Even from a distance, Gloria and Darius could tell it was Kelvin who brought Edwina back.Â
Gloria wasn’t thrilled about it, but she knew better than to butt in when it came to Edwina.Â
Edwina gave them a quick nod, then headed upstairs to get some rest.Â
Gloria started pounding on Darius. “This is all your fault.Â
“We should’ve just kicked him out that day. Why did we even bother listening to all his crap? If Kelvin actually marries Edwina, I’m going to raise hell with you.Â
“Our girl can’t marry some guy who never says a single honest word and has zero boundaries.Â
“First, he wants to break off the engagement, then he wants to marry her. The audacity of this man!”Â
Darius rubbed his ear, not about to argue back with Gloria.Â
He couldn’t help but feel it was a bit unfair to Kelvin.Â
Honestly, Kelvin couldn’t be blamed for this. Edwina never told anyone she was the Simmons family’s daughter.Â
She played both sides, kept her identity hidden. Kelvin was left completely in the dark. That was why he showed up at the Simmons estate to break off the engagement.Â
If he hadn’t come over to call it off, he probably would’ve stayed clueless forever about Edwina’s real identity.Â
