Chapter 53

Kelvin knocked on the door of the research office and stepped inside

His presence cast a shadow over Edwina’s workspace as he said softly. Don’t forget to come tomorrow night

A subtle smile played at his lips, his tone easy

A red invitation was slid across the desk toward her

Thanks, but I’m busy tomorrow night,Edwina said

Kelvin leaned in, placing both hands on her desk. Not even going to see what it is before saying no

Edwina, you’re quite cold.”

She kept her eyes down, making it clear she didn’t want to continue the conversation

Kelvin wasn’t in a hurry. He opened the invitation for her, showing off the bold, elegant painting that read Luminara Satellite Celebration Dinner.”

It read: [Randolph Duncan cordially invites Miss Edwina Lennox to attend the Luminara Satellite celebration dinner on July 15th at the Royal Court Hotel.

Mr. Duncan wrote this. You saved his life, and he’s really grateful. Besides, you were a big part of the Luminara satellite project,Kelvin said

He added while reaching out to block her view of the computer screen, Edwina, quit dodging. Consider it a direct order from your boss. You’re coming with me.”

Adrian Banks and his group were Edwina’s fellow researchers, so they were all invited to go to the

party

Inside the lab, they tried to convince her

Edwina, come on, just go with us!one of them urged

Think of it as team building. You’re a part of the lab!another added

Edwina, we’re begging you, come with us!a third pleaded

ट्र

With everyone egging her on, Edwina really couldn’t say no. She took the invitation

You really didn’t have to bring it yourself, Mr. Gibson. Next time, just let Peter handle it,she said

Kelvin replied, If you’re so worried about bothering me, then come grab it from my office next time

Peter gradutted from Heria College, which is a top college, and had a sixfigure salary. He’s way overqualified for running errands like this.”

There was a playful glimmer in Kelvin’s eyes. For Edwina, no distance was ever too much trouble

Man, I really have to come up with a million excuses just to see her once,Kelvin thought

Before the party kicked off the next day, Peter dropped off a gorgeous gown for Edwina

She just picked a random lounge to change. When she caught sight of herself in the mirror, she was totally blown away

Not much could wow her, given she was a top designer herself.

Chapter 53

The dress hugged her figure perfectly. The neckline was a modest V, and the sheer fabric draped over her slimdders, perfectly veiling her skin, hinting at what lay beneath

The hem was embroidered with elegant birds and fish in classic blue. With every step she took, it was like she was wearing a moving work of art straight out of a gallery

It’s gorgeous,Edwina couldn’t help but say. She scanned the dress for any label or tag, but there wasn’t a single hint about the designer

Wanting to honor the dress, Edwina let her hair down from its high ponytail and applied some subtle makeup

Her makeup skills were just as masterful as her design work. She was so stunning it was almost unreal

She even searched everywhere online for the dress, but came up empty

Interesting,” she murmured to herself

When did the fashion world get someone with this much creativity? Why haven’t I heard of them before?’ Edwina wondered to herself

As she stepped out of the lounge, she bumped into Helene and her staff

Edwina kept a straight face and stepped aside, letting them pass first

But Helene purposely stopped, looked her up and down, and said, Edwina, that dress is stunning. It really suits you

So, you’re going to the dinner party with Mr. Gibson? He’s really rolling out the red carpet for you. He must really value you.”

The other employees behind her couldn’t help but whisper among themselves

Everyone knew Kelvin was supposed to marry Helene, the Simmons family’s heiress and their boss

But ever since Edwina became Kelvin’s secretary, the two of them had been getting closer and closer

Having his secretary be his date again and again was bound to make people start talking

One of the women, clearly not a fan of homewreckers, spoke up. That dress is nice, but on some people, it just looks dirty.”

Another, trying to suck up to Helene, added with a snide tone, These days, homewreckers are really bold about flaunting it

But in the end, Mr. Gibson will still marry Ms. Simmons. No one else stands a chance.”

Edwina acted like she didn’t hear a word. Since they weren’t going to move, she decided to leave

She had zero interest in getting into it with a bunch of small fry

Seeing Edwina completely ignore them, one of the designers stepped forward and blocked her way

She asked, Who do you think you are, acting all high and mighty? You’re just a homewrecker. You don’t belong in the spotlight

How dare you dream of marrying up? Why don’t you take a good look at yourself and see if you’re even worthy?”

Seeing Edwina’s cool, indifferent face just pissed her off even more. She swung her hand, trying to slap Edwina across the

face

But Edwina was quicker. She snatched the woman’s wrist and twisted it with a flick, making the designer scream in pain

Chapter 53

Edwina retorted coldly. If I’m not worthy, do you think you are

You sure you want to keep messing with

Edwina barely used any strength. If she’d wanted, that wrist would’ve been broken in seconds. Out of respect for a fellow designer, she held back

Helene jumped in, making things worse. Edwina, let her go. She’s a designer. Her hands are her livelihood

She just got carried away. I’m really sorry, Edwina.”

The more Helene apologized, the more she seemed beneath Edwin, and the angrier the other designers got

One of them fumed to herself, Seriously, who does Edwina think she is, strutting around like she owns the place

How dare she let our director, the soontobe Mrs. Gibson, get treated like this? Once Helene becomes the boss’s wife, our help for her today will pay off handsomely

For their own gain, they couldn’t stand Edwina being the thorn in their side

The group of women rushed over, determined to put Edwina in her place

If she hadn’t saved Maberly Fashion, Nocturne Designs wouldn’t have fallen from grace. Now, those designers had lost all their standing in the company

Fueled by old grudges and fresh anger, they got even more vicious. They planned to yank her hair, claw at her, and rip her dress apart

Edwina dodged every move, but couldn’t strike back just yet. The dress made it hard to fight, and she cared too much about it to let them mess it up

Helene stood in the back, watching Edwina retreat again and again, a smug smile curling at her lips

You love showing off in that dress, don’t you? Let’s see you walk out of here stripped bare!Helene thought

Helene put on her best innocent act, calling out, Stop it, you guys. Please, don’t fight!”

She was quite pretentious

What the hell do you think you’re doing?A voice, thick with anger, cut through the chaos from behind them

Kelvin strode forward in a flash, stepping right in front of Edwina and shielding her completely

With Kelvin’s solid, broad shoulders, it was impossible not to feel safe

His sharp gaze swept over everyone in the room. Answer me. What are you doing?”

His voice was calm, but there was an icy edge to it that made

everyone shudder

WeThe group stammered, unable to get a word out

None of them saw Kelvin coming

Helene put on her meekest face and stepped up to explain

She said, Mr. Gibson, I’m really sorry. I didn’t keep my team in line

They’re all designers, and when they saw Miss Lennox make the first move and nearly snap someone’s
