Chapter 54

Edwina gave Helene a flat look, her brows knitting. She’s got a r knack for crying foul before anyone else even gets a chance. Edwina thought.

Kelvin turned to Edwina. Did you start it?”

Edwina replied with a soft I guess so.”

After all, that woman’s hand hadn’t even touched her yet.

When Edwina owned up, the crowd totally lost it, ranting and calling her out. Everyone wanted Kelvin to put her in her place.

But to everyone’s surprise, Kelvin simply took her hand, blew on it gently, his voice gentle enough to melt anyone’s heart.

Does it hurt? Should I call a doctor for you?he asked softly.

The whole room froze. Helene’s face went purple with rage. Her teeth were grinding from anger.

Edwina immediately pulled her hand out of his grasp, replying coolly, I’m fine. Don’t bother.”

The designer whose wrist Edwina had twisted snatched off her badge and said, Mr. Gibson, isn’t this way out of line? I quit. There’s no future for me in a company like this!”

The rest of the designers were all up in arms, yelling about quitting as well.

Kelvin stayed cool as ever. So, what do you want me to do?”

Someone shouted, Fire Edwina. She’s got no degree, no culture and zero professionalism. She doesn’t deserve to work at Gibson Group!”

Mr. Gibson, you can’t just bend the rules for her because of your personal feelings, another designer protested.

Helene quickly stepped in to settle everyone down. Let’s all calm down for a second. Don’t rush to quit.

If a bunch of designers walk out at once, the whole company will be thrown into chaos.

We’ve all spent years at Nocturne Designs. I know we care about this place, so let’s not do anything we’ll regret.”

The designers knew the company couldn’t afford to lose so many people at once, so they decided to play hardball and hold the company hostage to get what they wanted.

We can stay, but Edwina has to go!one of them shouted.

Helene put on a troubled face. Honestly, Edwina didn’t really do anything major.

It was just a misunderstanding. If we just talk it out, it’ll all blow over.”

While she was putting on a show of defending Edwina, inside, she was secretly delighted.

She thought, Edwina, let’s see how you can get close to Kelvin once you’re out of Gibson Group!‘

That’s right, fire her!one of the designers shouted.

If she’s staying, we’re leaving. It’s her or us!another designer yelled.

Kelvin took the designer’s badge from her hand and read it out loud, Robin Morton, Ariston School of Design graduate. Not

bad, you seem pretty talented…

Robin gave Edwina a smug, dismissive glance, her eyes full of dilain

But the next second, Kelvin tossed her badge into the trash.

He said. No need to quit. You’re fired.

Head to HR and get your paperwork done. You’ll still get paid for this month.”

Robin’s eyes went wide. She was left completely speechless.

Kelvin didn’t give her even a second to plead her case.

Kelvin asked, Do you really think threatening to quit is going to shake me?

There are plenty of Ariston grads out there, and even more design schools in the world. What makes you so special?

I hate being threatened.”

Kelvin kept his voice steady. Let’s get one thing straight. You were the ones who started throwing insults and provoking Edwina. So how come suddenly it’s all on her?

She just grabbed your wrist to defend herself. You call that assault?

Guess you’ve never actually been hit before. If you really want to know what getting hit feels like, I can help you out.”

Robin was scared out of her wits by Kelvin’s words. Her legs were shaking like a leaf.

Anyone else want to quit? Hurry up, HR’s about to close. Don’t waste my time,Kelvin said.

The ones who’d been shouting just lowered their heads, suddenly quiet as mice.

Designers at Gibson Group got the best pay and perks in the whole business. No one would want to give up a gig like this.

Everyone just went silent, heads down, not saying a word.

Robin stared at the others, stunned, only to realize that in the end, she was the only one who actually got fired.

Let’s go,” Kelvin said, taking Edwina with him.

As they passed Helene, he said coldly, Ms. Simmons, since you’re in charge, do your job.

Instead of rallying your team to cause trouble, maybe you should put more effort into Nocturne Designs.

This quarter, Nocturne Designsrevenue is almost lower than the company cafeteria’s.”

Helene’s face flushed hot with embarrassment, and she could only nod, not daring to meet Kelvin’s eyes.

Peter pulled open the car door and waited at the company entrance.

The moment he saw Edwina, his jaw dropped. He barely recognized her.

Holy crap, she’s dropdead gorgeous!Peter thought.

Peter quickly averted his gaze. Edwina, in that evening gown, was nothing like her usual casual self.

She was always pretty, but tonight her beauty was so dazzling it almost felt wrong to look at her, like he was committing some kind of sin just by staring.

Honestly only someone like Mr. Gibson, a true alpha among mig, could stand next to her and not get overshadowed, Peter thought

At that moment. Peter finally understood why Kelvin wanted to ring Edwina to events.

In the back seat, Edwina sat close to the window, while Kelvin cast a subtle sidelong glance at her, barely betraying any

emotion

The evening gown suited her perfectly, highlighting that cool, regal beauty of hers. It was so elegant and remote that it almost felt ethereal.

The luxury car glided smoothly down the road, the silence in the cabin almost palpable.

Edwina, breaking the silence for once, asked, Kelvin, I was wondering, where did you get this dress? Who designed it?”

Peter, who was driving, couldn’t help blurting out, Edwina, didn’t Mr. Gibson tell you? He’s the one who designed this dress”

Kelvin cut him off, giving a little cough, Peter, just focus on driving. So, what do you think of the design?”

It’s stunning, almost perfect. That’s why I wanted to know who made it,Edwina said.

“Almost perfect? So you think it could be even better? Where do you think it falls short?Kelvin asked, his eyebrow narrowed, a playful glint in his eyes.

Edwina pointed to her chest, the delicate sheer fabric lending a subtle, enigmatic charm to the skin beneath.

Without realizing anything was off about the gesture, she analyzed the design in her usual calm, professional tone.

She said, The sheer fabric captures the spirit of the dress, but if you used something even lighter and more transparent, it would make the whole look truly perfect.”

Kelvin nodded. The original design featured a gossamerthin layer over the bodice, so delicate it was almost invisible.

But there were certain beauties he instinctively wanted to keep hidden from prying eyes, so he’d deliberately replaced the sheer fabric with something heavier, making sure she was a little more covered up.

So, who’s the designer?Edwina asked.

A friend of mine. This is one of his personal pieces, so it’s never been shown to the public,” Kelvin replied.

Edwina’s eyes lit up with genuine interest. Can I meet him sometime? Seriously, he’s amazing.”

Kelvin’s gaze grew somber. After a brief pause, he replied, Sorry, you can’t. He’s passed away.”

Peter, who was driving, almost did a spittake right there.

Peter thought, Wait, passed away?

Mr. Gibson, is this really how you wanna treat yourself?‘

Edwina didn’t notice anything off and just said softly, I’m sorry.”

She always had a soft spot for real talent. Whenever she came across a designer with a unique vibe, she just had to meet them and see what made them tick.

When she finally found a designer she really vibed with, she unfortunately realized that he was actually gone.

Is there somewhere I could go to pay my respects? I’m wearing one of his creations, after all,Edwina asked softly.
