Edwina’s eyes showed just how helpless she felt. Her voice was icy as she said, “You guys have got it all wrong. Kelvin and I 

aren’t…” 

Before she could even get the words out, Sam sprang up, all excited. 

Sam blurted out, “Wait, the guy you just saved with the ECD is your husband? 

“Hold on, it’s way too soon to call him that. Let me go check him out first and see if this guy’s actually good enough for our Edwina.” 

With that, he dashed out of the room. 

Darius watched him leave, gave his thigh a regretful slap, and shook his head in disappointment. 

He said, “That’s it. Sam will never agree.” 

He sighed deeply and said to Edwina, “Back when I was dating your mom, he was completely opposed. He even called me just a merchant who only cared about money. 

“In his eyes, nobody’s ever good enough for his family. Edwina, if your uncle doesn’t approve, you’ll have to stick to your guns just like your mom did. Only then can you end up with the one you love.” 

Edwina got a headache just listening to what Darius said and rubbed her temples in frustration. 

Kelvin saved her, so she did surgery on him. She felt that it was totally normal. But somehow, they managed to turn it into a whole drama about feelings. 

Edwina wondered, ‘Did Kelvin save me because he likes me? 

‘No way. Maybe he jumped in front of the bullet just on instinct. But come on, most people would just dodge, right? Seriously, why did he do it?‘ 

Half an hour later, Sam came back, his brows tightly knit and his face looking grim. 

Seeing his expression, Darius said, “Knew I was right. Sam just can’t stand that Gibson kid. 

“Looks like this marriage just got even harder. Another person on the ‘no‘ list.” 

As Sam walked into the room, his frown just kept getting deeper, looked like he was really struggling with something. 

Gloria quickly jumped in to calm him down. “Sam, Edwina really likes him, and they’ve already been through thick and thin together. 

“Let’s not rush into marriage. Give them some time to figure things out.” 

Sam suddenly straightened up, his eyes lighting up. “Kelvin is a genius. He totally nailed it.. 

“If we add a smart chip to the ECD and run it through the DG system, it’ll cut down on human error even more. 

“Edwina, you couldn’t have picked a better guy. I am all for this marriage. 

“No, I gotta get back and work on the ECD right away. If you need anything, just call me. No matter how far I am, I’ll hop on a plane and be back in a flash!” 

Edwina nodded seriously. “Thank you.”

As Sam left the room, he couldn’t help but remind her. “Edwina make sure you really give Kelvin a chance Guys like hom alon’t come around every day” 

Darnis was totally baffled. 

So I’m the only one he doesn’t approve of? Darius thought to self. 

Even Gloria was shocked. Sam was always so picky and hard to please, but Kelvin managed to win him over in just thirty minutes. She felt that Kelvin was seriously impressive. 

Edwina threw back the covers. “Since he’s awake, I’m going to check on him” 

“Alright, let me help you over there,” Gloria said, reaching out to steady her. 

Darius pulled her back. “Let them have some time alone. They’ve just been through a lot and probably want to talk. No need for us to butt in.”

She made her way to the critical care unit, where Kelvin was still hooked up to all sorts of monitoring equipment. 

Thanks to his impressive physical condition, he was 

recovering way faster than anyone else would. 

Kelvin lounged in bed, his upper body bare, bandages wrapped from his shoulder down to his chest. His abs were perfectly sculpted. 

A pair of gold–rimmed glasses sat on his high, straight nose. Anyone passing by couldn’t help but steal a glance. He was the picture of forbidden allure, dangerously attractive and impossible to ignore. 

Edwina walked into the room and closed the door behind her. 

Kelvin’s gaze shifted from the screen to her. When he saw she was also in a hospital gown, his brows drew together, concern flickering in his eyes. “Are you hurt?” 

“No, just low blood sugar,” Edwina replied. 

“Why aren’t you resting? What are you doing here?” Kelvin 

The nurse had told him the surgeon was a young woma

Edwina walked over to the monitors, checked his vitals, then shut down the laptop on his lap and took it away. 

“You need to rest. Work can wait until you’re out of the hospital,” she said. 

Kelvin looked at her, a playful glint in his eyes. “Edwina, if you want to take care of me, you’ll need a more official title. Just being my secretary isn’t enough.” 

The moment Kelvin dove in front of Edwina, instinctively taking the bullet for her, his true feelings hit him like a ton of bricks. 

Kelvin couldn’t get her out of his mind. That hazy, heart–thumping urge to see her all the time meant that he wasn’t just curious about her. 

Edwina didn’t react at all to his flirty banter, just tossed the laptop back onto the bed with zero interest. 

“Go ahead, keep working. Don’t blame me if you end up dead,” she shot back.

Kelvin saw how serious she was and couldn’t help but smile, a life exasperated.

With Edwina, sweet talk alone wouldn’t cut it. He had to be upfront and lay his cards on the table. Still, it was way too early 

for that. 

If he pushed her now, she might just disappear on him before he even knew what happened. 

If she slipped back into the wild, he might never track her down again. 

Kelvin nodded, “Alright, I’ll do as you say. You’re the doctor. 

“Dr. Lennox, could you help me take off my glasses, too?” 

His hands were all wrapped up in bandages, so he really couldn’t move. Edwina stepped in close, bent down, and her fingers gripped the bridge of his glasses. 

With all the equipment around, she had to lean in so close that their faces were just inches apart. 

Edwina caught a whiff of that hospital smell clinging to Kelvin. 

He got hurt because of her. 

Her fingers couldn’t help but tremble as she held his glasses. 

Suddenly, the door to the hospital room swung open. 

“Mr. Gibson, it’s time to change your bandages. I’m so sorry!” the nurse blurted out. 

She pushed the door open and caught a glimpse of Edwina. She thought they were making out at that moment. 

That was way too much for her to handle. She quickly ducked her head and hurried out. 

Edwina was caught off guard by the sudden noise, and in the next instant, Kelvin’s arm instinctively wrapped around her waist as his body bumped into hers. 

Their lips brushed for just a split second. 

Even though it was only a brief, feather–light touch, Kelvin could still feel that sweet, gentle sensation lingering. 

‘Girls really are wonderful,‘ he thought, completely mesmerized. 

That was the only thing running through his mind. 

The nurse startled him a bit, but he didn’t actually freak out. Kelvin had totally done it on purpose. 

Edwina quickly slipped off his glasses, her brows furrowing, her expression a little flustered now, not nearly as composed as before. 

Edwina thought, ‘Wait, did I just kiss him? 

My body has gone really mellow now. Just one little nudge, I nearly toppled over.” 

Before Kelvin could say anything. Edwina said, “Sorry, I just lost my balance. Your glasses are right here. If you need anything, call the nurse.”
