At the Dragon Hotel in Grindel City.

Abby was hiding out in the stairwell, sunglasses and a mask on, her head wrapped up in so many thick scarves that even her family might not recognize her.

She lowered her voice as she made the call, her tone tense and serious. Mom, what do I do? The media caught me on

camera!”

Beatrice’s brows knitted tightly. Didn’t I set up a room for you? Why are you running around like this?

Did they catch your face on camera? You’re so stupid!”

Abby was so anxious she was about to cry. No, they only got my back, but I dropped a business card when I ran. It had the Lennox name and the company phone number on it. They probably picked it up.

If they go public with this, even without any real proof, just rumors about me checking into a hotel room will start a gossip. If Desmond starts to suspect something”

Abby couldn’t bring herself to say more. If the Cole family found out that she was sleeping with another man and faking a pregnancy, they’d never let them off the hook.

At that moment, the Lennox family was already under pressure from all sides. If things fell apart with the Cole family, the consequences would be unimaginable.

Mom, can you check the security cameras and find out which media outlet got it? Maybe you can pay them off to keep it quiet!Abby begged.

Absolutely not. That would just make it look like we’re admitting everything. What if the reporter tries to squeeze us for more money, or worse, turns the tables and exposes us instead?Beatrice snapped.

Abby was nearly in tears. Then what should we do?she choked out.

Beatrice’s eyes flashed coldly as she spoke in a low, ruthless voice. It’s just a business card with the Lennox name on it. It’s not like you’re the only person with that name out there.”

Abby hesitated, her voice shaky. Mom, you mean…

Beatrice cut her off. I’ll take care of it. You just focus on getting to that room and making sure you get pregnant!”

As soon as the call ended, Beatrice called Edwina right away.

It was the weekend, so Edwina didn’t have to go into the Gibson Group. She was planning to swing by Design Harmony. After all, the fashion company was hers.

With the leech of a deputy manager, Roland Prichard, still causing trouble, she couldn’t just turn a blind eye to it.

Just as she stepped out of the Gibson family, she saw the familiar number pop up on her phone. Edwina’s brows furrowed, but after a moment’s hesitation, she picked up.

Beatrice got straight to the point. Edwina, get to the Dragon Hotel right now. Stay in room 606 until four in the afternoon, then you can leave.”

Edwina replied coldly, If that’s all, I’m hanging up.”

Beatrice snapped, her voice sharp with anger, Edwina! Are you trying to get that old man killed?”

Chapter 69

Edwina’s finger froze over the hangup button, her voice turning cold and dangerous. What do you mean?”

Anton Lennox. If you don’t show up, or if you leave early, I’ll make sure he suffers,Beatrice threatened.

He’s Benedict’s father,Edwina said.

$35 vaugnels —

Beatrice let out a smug laugh. So what? Between the Lennox family’s future and an old man who’s already halfdead, do you really think Benedict would hesitate?

He’d probably be even quicker to get rid of him than I would!”

When Edwina left the Lennox family, the one person she worried about most was Anton.

Anton was Benedict’s father and Abby’s grandfather, and the Lennox family had plenty of money for caregivers and medical

treatments.

They could take good care of him, so even though Edwina missed him, she never really worried about his wellbeing.

But she never expected the Lennox family to get so desperate that they’d actually use Anton to threaten her. It looked like the Lennox family was really in deep trouble this time.

Edwina, remember the address. I’m not giving you any time to think about it!Beatrice snapped.

With that, she hung up without another word.

After bluffing her way through the call, Beatrice’s fingers were shaking, her palms slick with cold sweat.

She knew Edwina was quickwitted and sly. If she kept talking, she’d get played for sure and end up saying something she’d regret.

With the beeping still echoing in her ear, Edwina gripped her phone so hard her knuckles turned white.

There was nothing Edwina despised more than being at someone else’s mercy, but right now, she couldn’t gamble with Anton’s life.

Edwina spun on her heel and made a beeline for the Dragon Hotel, just like Beatrice had ordered, slipping into room 606 without hesitation.

She called Beatrice back. I’m here.”

Good. As long as you stay put until four, Anton will be fine,Beatrice said.

Edwina glanced at the wall clock, the hands were right on twelve.

Beatrice, still hiding behind her anonymous tipster identity, leaked a tip to the press that Abby was supposedly hooking up in room 606 with someone.

She deliberately left Edwina’s name out of it. She wanted the real shock to hit when the door swung open, and the truth

came out.

It was a classic twobirdsonestone scheme. Not only would it wipe away any suspicion from Abby, but it would also make Edwina, who’d been grabbing all the attention lately, crash and burn in public.

At the corner of the hotel hallway, Peter watched Edwina disappear into the room, a thoughtful frown on his face. He couldn’t shake the feeling that something was up.

Peter wondered, Does Edwina have a boyfriend? If that’s true, Mr. Gibson would be totally crushed.

No way I’m letting this slide. I need to figure out what’s really going on.”

Chapter 69

Just as he was about to go check things out, two guys showed up at the door of room 606.

One was tall and fat, the other short and skinny, but both of them were seriously ugly, dressed in cheap, shady clothes.

They looked exactly like the kind of lowlife punks hanging around on the street.

They both had nasty grins on their faces as they pushed open the door and walked right in.

Peter’s guard shot up instantly. He thought, There is no way Edwina would ever be into guys like that. This is way off, she’s definitely in some kind of trouble.‘

But with no real evidence, Peter couldn’t just storm in, so he called Kelvin to let him know what was going on.

Send me your location now!Kelvin barked.

Even if Edwina wasn’t into him, Kelvin felt tthat there was no way she’d go for anyone else, especially not guys like that.

Those two creeps Peter saw were definitely trouble. Kelvin knew Edwina could handle herself. Punks could not mess with her. Still, he couldn’t shake the worry.

Kelvin floored it, pushing his car to the limit. Meanwhile, Peter kept thinking it over, and finally decided he had to knock on the door.

He pounded on the door so hard that even the best soundproofing couldn’t block it out, but there wasn’t a single peep from inside.

Inside the room, Edwina got a call from Beatrice. Make the person knocking leave. Don’t you dare open that door. Or else”

Edwina hung up, then called the hotel staff to have someone remove Peter from the hallway, claiming she was being harassed.

She lounged on the couch, totally relaxed, while the two guys who’d just barged in stood ramrod straight in front of her, like soldiers in boot camp.

Once the noise outside faded, Edwina grabbed a cup and hurled it at the fat guy’s leg. Stand up straight. No slacking off!”

The fat guy didn’t even dare rub his knee, just nodded like crazy. Yes! I’ll stand up straight.”

These two had been paid to hook up with a woman, and they couldn’t believe their luck.

When they stepped into the room and saw a dropdead gorgeous beauty waiting for them, they were practically drooling.

They tossed out all sorts of crude taunts and itched to lay their filthy hands on Edwina.

Edwina just arched an eyebrow, her face icy and unreadable. In one ruthless move, she twisted both their arms out of joint.

The two thugs screamed in agony, begging for mercy. Spare us, please. We’ll never mess with you again”
