Chapter 13
Sharp shrapnel struck the man’s back, leaving deep gashes of blood.
But the man didn’t flinch. He only gritted his teeth and let out a muffled grunt, his voice low and strained. “It’s dangerous here. Come with me.”
Juliet was forcefully led back to the tent by the man.
It was only then that she noticed the bloodstains all over him, and the wounds from the shrapnel were deep enough to expose bone.
She quickly pushed him into a chair. “Don’t move, I’ll treat your wounds.”
The man didn’t refuse.
Juliet carefully cut away his clothes, gently using tweezers to extract the shrapnel embedded in his
flesh, each movement full of focus.
After Juliet finished bandaging his wounds, she realized he was wearing a strange black mask.
“Your face…”
“Burned. I didn’t want to scare anyone.”
Juliet bit her lip.
Just as she was about to thank him for what he had done, Claire Mason suddenly appeared out of nowhere and excitedly dragged her to the side.
“Juliet, did you see his face?”
“What?”
“He’s the communications expert I told you about. Did you see what he looks like?”
Juliet shook her head. “He said his face was burned, and he didn’t want to scare anyone.”
Claire Mason’s eyes widened in surprise at first, but then she sighed in disappointment.
“Ugh. So he’s just another scarred war victim? Boring.”
“Claire, don’t say that.” Juliet quickly stopped her. “He might have been injured during the war. We
should respect him.”

Claire Mason stuck out her tongue and said no more.
Three days later, the fighting temporarily ceased.
The rescue team didn’t rush to the next battlefield but stayed behind to continue treating the
wounded.
Juliet finally began to notice the “communications expert” who had been quietly following her.
The man had saved her life on the battlefield, so out of gratitude, she had been taking care of him as
well.
But as time passed, something started to feel off.
The way he moved, the sound of his voice–it was so familiar.
Juliet thought she must be losing her mind.
Spencer Whitmore was already engaged to Charlotte. There was no way he would come to a war
zone like this.
And he certainly couldn’t have found her…
Not far away, Spencer watched Juliet from a distance, his fingers tightening slowly.
He had crossed mountains and seas to get here, and the moment he saw Juliet, his heart was filled
with immense joy.
But he held back and didn’t approach her. Instead, he wore the mask and interacted with her in
another way, fearing that his appearance might bring up bad memories for Juliet.
But now, she was starting to avoid him again.
Did she know?
Spencer’s emotions were complex, but reality didn’t give him the chance to dwell on it.
That night, the communications base was attacked again.
With his fake identity, Spencer was not required to participate in the repairs. But surprisingly, he
applied to join, causing his informant to break into a cold sweat.
“Mr. Whitmore, the front lines are extremely dangerous. You’re just here to pretend–there’s no need to act so seriously!”

Spencer shot him a cold glance. “Who said I’m here to pretend?”
He came to find Juliet, driven by a desire for redemption.
Even if he died on the front lines, it would be his fate, the sin he had to atone for.
The informant, unable to stop Spencer, quickly rushed to find Juliet, planning to tell her Spencer’s
true identity.
But before he could find Spencer, heartbreaking news came from the communications base.
-There were heavy casualties among the communication staff, and three were missing, including
the masked one.
