Chapter 18
That evening, Edgar arrived at the campsite, carrying heavy luggage. He set up the tent, laid out
snacks, and started the campfire, not letting Juliet lend a hand at all.
Once everything was ready, he patted the soft cushion and gestured for Juliet to sit first.
Then, he took out a blanket and draped it over her shoulders.
“This spot is perfect. I’ll take care of the photos, and you focus on watching the aurora,” Edgar
said, suddenly feeling his sleeve grow heavy.
Juliet tugged at his sleeve. “Good views should be captured with your eyes. Come sit with me and
enjoy it together.”
Edgar’s ears flushed again.
As they waited for the aurora, neither of them spoke.
Juliet ate snacks, feeling the warmth of the campfire.
Just then, her phone buzzed with a news notification.
[Former business tycoon Spencer Whitmore passed away this morning. His company has declared
bankruptcy, bringing an end to his prosperous empire…]
Seeing the familiar name, Juliet’s thoughts briefly faltered.
Edgar also received the same news push.
He secretly admired Juliet, so he had looked into her past. He knew about her hardships in
Ridgewood and who Spencer Whitmore was..
When he saw Spencer’s passing, he instinctively looked at Juliet to see her reaction.
What he didn’t expect was that Juliet just quietly glanced at her phone before putting it away.
“Juliet, if you need to…”
“Look, the aurora!”
The sudden appearance of the aurora interrupted Edgar’s words.
The students around them quickly lifted their cameras to take photos, and Juliet grabbed the

binoculars, standing on tiptoe to get a better view.
What she saw was the dark blue sky torn open by a crack, from which vast waves of green light cascaded, draping the snowy ground in a dreamlike veil.
Juliet became lost in the natural beauty around her.
However, when she lowered the binoculars, she realized that Edgar wasn’t looking at the aurora- he was looking at her.
The young man’s lips were a rich shade of red, and his dark hair shimmered faintly in the night,
with a few stray strands fluttering in the breeze.
For a moment, Juliet felt like she saw herself reflected in his eyes.
As Edgar’s face turned redder, to the point that even the aurora couldn’t hide it, Juliet suddenly
remembered something. She bent down and started rummaging through her backpack.
In no time, she pulled out a white scarf.
The scarf was one she had knitted for Claire, but Claire had started dating someone last month, and
the two of them wore matching couple scarves.
Looking at Edgar’s neck, red from the cold wind, Juliet suddenly felt an impulse to give it to him.
“Why are you standing so far away? I won’t bite,” Juliet said, stepping forward and draping the scarf around Edgar’s neck.
They were close now, and the fog of their breath blurred their vision, drawing their hearts closer as
well.
Juliet realized, in that moment, that she had truly moved on.
“Edgar, when spring comes, let’s hike Blue Ridge Peak.”
Edgar’s eyes widened. “R–Really?”
Juliet nodded. “I love spring.”
Pain is dulled by time, and love can be reborn from the ashes.
After the harsh winter, there will always be spring.
