Chapter 7
Juliet barely made it home, her body screaming with every step.
As soon as she stepped through the door, she witnessed a scene that pierced her heart.
Charlotte was curled up on the sofa, wrapped in a blanket, looking like a wounded kitten.
Spencer was sitting beside her, carefully feeding her soup, one spoonful at a time.
As Spencer’s gaze shifted to Juliet, his eyes were like a sharp blade, filled with a near–tangible
hatred.
“You still have the nerve to come back?” Juliet’s father stormed forward and slapped her hard
across the face.

Juliet felt the world spin as the impact nearly knocked her off balance.
“I know you’re upset because Charlotte came back to Ridgewood, but she is your sister! Do you really have to pull such tricks? Don’t you fear scaring her into a worse condition?”
“If Spencer hadn’t arrived in time, who knows how much worse it would’ve gotten!”
”
Charlotte secretly rejoiced, but pretended to be concerned. “Dad, please don’t blame my sister, I’m
fine, really.”

“Stop defending this bastard!” Juliet’s father’s chest heaved with fury, clearly seething with anger.
Juliet stood frozen in place, the buzzing in her ears deafening her.
Ally, Alt
The next second, Spencer, who had remained silent, finally spoke up.
“Apologize to Charlotte.”
His voice was frigid, as if capable of freezing everything in its path.
Juliet gritted her teeth.
Somehow, she found the courage to respond, “No.”
She had already figured it out when the kidnappers tortured her.
The kidnapping had been orchestrated by Charlotte to frame her and solidify her role as the
malicious younger sister.

She hadn’t done anything wrong. Why should she apologize?
Charlotte sighed dramatically, pretending to be magnanimous. “Forget it, Spencer. My sister probably didn’t mean it. I don’t want to ruin the relationship between us…”
“Almost got you killed, and asking for an apology is too much?” Spencer’s gaze became colder, his disdain for Juliet deepening.
When did Juliet become so untamable, so wild?
Juliet’s father was also enraged by her defiance.
He grabbed Juliet’s arm roughly, dragging her to Charlotte’s side like she was a helpless child, not noticing her body’s pain until Juliet groaned softly,
Juliet’s father frowned deeply.
Before he could ask what had happened, Spencer’s icy voice cut through. “To frame Charlotte like
this and hurt yourself, Juliet, you’ve really taken the phrase ‘by any means necessary‘ to the
extreme.”
Juliet’s father’s confusion disappeared, replaced by even greater anger.
He forcefully pressed Juliet down to her knees, making her legs buckle under the pressure.
“Your body and skin were given to you by your parents! Looks like you’ve completely abandoned this family and me as your father!”
Juliet numbly raised her head, helplessly meeting Spencer’s cold gaze.
He was standing high above her, holding Charlotte in his arms, like he was judging a criminal.
Meanwhile, she knelt before him, her dignity long crushed to dust.
Spencer was somehow disturbed by the defiant look in her eyes.
He coldly repeated, “One apology, I’ll drop this.”
Juliet laughed bitterly.
Her red–rimmed eyes locked onto Spencer, and she spoke, each word full of conviction: “I won’t
apologize. You can do whatever you want.”
Spencer froze, the last remnants of his pity for her fading away.

What followed was a relentless barrage of slaps and curses from Juliet’s father.
Already weakened, Juliet couldn’t hold up any longer. Within moments, she collapsed to the ground, losing consciousness.
Juliet had no idea how long she had been unconscious.
When she woke up, the living room was empty.
Despite the excruciating pain all over her body, she braced herself with trembling hands and returned to her room to finish packing.
Just before closing her suitcase, Charlotte’s voice came from behind.
“Enjoy my farewell gift?” Charlotte leaned against the doorframe, a look of utter disdain on her face. “I really wanted to keep you here for the engagement party, so you could offer your blessings to Spencer and me, but Dad wouldn’t hear of it. He thinks you’ve disgraced the Cohen family, and he doesn’t want you here for even another second.”
“Juliet, just leave and don’t ever come back. This family is finally at peace without you.‘
“And thank you for being my husband’s free plaything for two years, keeping him from being lonely while I wasn’t around.”
Juliet’s lips pressed tightly together, not a word escaping her.
With a soft “click,” her suitcase was shut.
And with it, the last remnants of her attachment to this family were sealed away.
The next day, before dawn, Juliet boarded a flight out of the country.
She left with firm resolve.
Before boarding, she didn’t hesitate to delete every contact she had with Spencer.
As the plane soared across the vast sky, leaving a white trail behind, she left her painful past behind
her as well.
