My Ambition 14

Chapter 6

I knew the important part was coming.

Sebastian looked at me, his eyes more serious than ever:

‘Catherine, this time… you’ve been wronged. It’s my fault for not properly managing Luna that she did something so lawless.”

He rubbed his temples. “But the bigger problem is that destroyed tender document. Although we have electronic backups, some original documents requiring official scals and supplementary materials can’t be reissued in time. This tender… we might…”

He didn’t finish, but I understood.

Weeks of painstaking work, the key to the company’s transformation, might all be wasted because of one woman’s madness.

The air in the hospital room suddenly became heavy.

ust then, the door was gently pushed open.

A well-dressed, elegantly composed middle-aged woman entered, followed by someone who looked like a lawyer with a stern

xpression. It was Luna’s mother.

Sebastian,” Mrs. Victoria Fairmont’s face showed perfectly calibrated remorse and concern.

価

Luna knows she was wrong. She just loves you too much-she acted foolishly. Do you think this matter could be… settled privately? The Fairmont family will compensate Catherine for all damages and do our best to make up for Brightwell Corporation’s project

osses…”

Mrs. Fairmont,”

ebastian interrupted her, his voice calm but carrying undeniable authority. “This isn’t about compensation. Luna committed leliberate assault and destroyed crucial Brightwell Corporation business documents involving trade secrets. This isn’t child’s play.”

Mrs. Fairmont’s expression shifted slightly:

Sebastian, our families have been close for generations. You and Luna have an engagement…”

The engagement will be discussed later.”

Sebastian’s tone was indifferent. “Right now, please leave. Catherine needs rest.”

Mrs. Fairmont took a deep breath, her gaze turning to me. Deep in her eyes flashed barely perceptible contempt and intimidation:

Miss Snow, it’s not easy for young people starting their careers. Some misunderstandings don’t need to be blown out of proportion. As long as you’re willing to settle, the Fairmont family won’t shortchange you. Otherwise…”

She didn’t finish, but the threat was unmistakable.

Looking at them, my chest hurt-not just from the wound, but from a burning anger.

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and when I reopened them, I made my voice sound calm yet firm:

“Mr. Brightwell, Mrs. Fairmont, I’m very tired right now and need rest. Regarding this matter, everything will be discussed after I consult with my lawyer.”

Sebastian looked at me with some surprise, apparently not expecting me to invoke legal representation so directly.

Mrs. Fairmont’s expression darkened completely. She gave me one last long look, said nothing more, and left with the lawyer.

The room fell quiet again, but the oppressive feeling after a storm grew even heavier.

Sebastian was silent for a moment, then spoke:

“Focus on healing. The company will cover all medical expenses and subsequent compensation. The Fairmont family… I’ll handle

them.”

He stood up, apparently preparing to leave.

‘Mr. Brightwell,”

I called out to him. When he turned around, I asked, “That swallowed tender document… is there really no other way?”

He shook his head wearily:

The core data is still there, but the format and some exclusive attachments… there’s no time.”

stared at the pale ceiling, my mind flashing through countless materials organized before the business trip, and… a certain

overlooked detail.

Could Luna’s ability to find my room precisely, to surveil our every move for nineteen hours, really be her capability alone? Sebastian’s words about “my mother tricking me into that arranged marriage” echoed inadvertently in my ears.

The wound still throbbed, but my thoughts became unusually clear.

This disaster couldn’t end like this.

una must pay the price, and whoever might be lurking in the shadows, pushing all this forward, I would drag them out too.
