My Ambition 9

Chapter 1

Catching a 1 AM emergency business flight with my boss when his fiancée calls.

“Catherine, Sebastian hasn’t replied to my texts for three whole minutes. Is he getting tired of me?”

I stared at ten open files on my laptop, barely managing to spare her any attention.

“Miss Fairmont, Mr. Brightwell is swamped with tender arrangements. He doesn’t have time right now.”

Fifteen minutes later, she called again.

“There’s definitely going to be drinking at the tender banquet. Keep an eye on Sebastian for me-don’t let any women crawl into his bed.”

[ hadn’t even sent the last notification yet. I gave her a halfhearted agreement and hung up.

The next second, she called back.

‘Also, make Sebastian check in with me every five minutes with his itinerary, and the photos have to show specific poses I designate.’

The boarding announcement echoed through the terminal. I couldn’t hide my irritation:

Miss Fairmont, I’m just an assistant. I don’t have the authority to help you spy on my boss’s private life.”

After hanging up, I turned off my phone for takeoff, assuming she’d get the hint.

was dead fucking wrong.

After a grueling ten-hour flight, my phone exploded with over a hundred texts and missed calls-all from Luna having a complete neltdown, demanding to know if I was currently screwing her fiancé.

ESUS CHRIST! What a fucking psycho.

My phone kept vibrating incessantly. I opened it with bewildered fingers, the device nearly crashing from the overload: 127 text nessages and 99 missed calls, all from Luna’s hysterical interrogations.

Catherine, what’s your game? Why won’t you agree to help me?”

What are you and Sebastian doing? Why did both your phones turn off at the same time?!”

I knew you only applied for this job to get close to Sebastian. I won’t let you succeed.”

he screen full of slanderous accusations ignited a surge of fury in my chest. I had earned Sebastian Brightwell’s assistant position hrough my own merit, working tirelessly year-round to build my career achievements. Yet in her mouth, all my efforts became vidence of selling my body.

But this tender was critically important-it would directly determine whether Brightwell Corporation could successfully transform. Jnder Sebastian’s puzzled gaze, I shook my head slightly and struggled to find the few work-related messages scattered among the

haos.

Before I could even read them, Luna’s video call came through. I pressed my temples, fighting the urge to decline, and answered.

“Catherine Snow! What were you just doing with Sebastian?”

“Why did both your phones turn off simultaneously, and why are your locations identical? Did you sleep with him?”

Before I could utter a word, Luna’s barrage of questions silenced me. Her eyes were bloodshot, her hair disheveled-clearly, she’d stayed up all night.

“Thirteen hours-how many times did you do it? Did you use protection? Let me tell you, as long as I’m around, you’ll never be able to use a pregnancy to climb the social ladder!”

“Miss Fairmont, please watch your language,” I said sternly, adjusting the camera angle.

“We turned off our phones because of takeoff, and our location is the same because I’m on a business trip with Mr. Brightwell. Everything you just said has seriously damaged my reputation. I don’t want to hear it again.”

‘If it’s really business, why didn’t Sebastian choose a male companion? You must have schemed to go alone with him. A man and woman together-of course something would happen.”

Luna completely ignored my explanations, pressing her face close to the camera and screaming hysterically.

You answered this video call at the airport just to deceive me. Do you think I’d fall for that? Just wait, Catherine Snow. I’ll make you pay. Not everyone is someone you can seduce.”

‘What exactly do you plan to make her pay for?”
