Chapter 101 HeartWrenchingAgony Beyond Endurance!

Sloane’s back stiffened. Panic flashed in her eyes as she glanced at Kaelbut the fever addled man was too disoriented to hear Nova’s shout.

The taut string of tension in Sloane’s mind finally snapped.

She turned back to Nova, a sneer curling her lips. Nova, haven’t you figured out where you stand with Kael yet? A man who’s pretending to be asleep will never wake upno matter how hard you call.”

Her words hit Nova like a bucket of ice water. Her face drained of all color, leaving her as pale as a sheet.

Sloane smirked, then helped Kael into the car and drove off, the tires screeching as they pulled away.

Nova stood rooted to the spot. Her mind was clear, but her heart felt shatteredpounded to pieces by the cold rain and Sloane’s cruel taunt.

She thought of how it always started with men like Kael.

First, they snuck around, careful to cover their tracks, showering their wives with extra affection after each betrayal.

Then, when they realized they weren’t getting caught, their courage grew. They stayed out all night, wove bigger lies, and crossed lines they’d once promised never to touch.

So even though he knew exactly where his limits were, he’d stepped over them anyway.

Even though he saw his lover push her around and treat her like dirt, he’d looked the other way. He’d let it happen.

Kael had known exactly what he was doing. He’d known she had a soft heart, that she’d always relied on himand he’d taken advantage of it. He’d let Sloane flaunt their affair right in front of her, turning a blind eye to her pain.

Nova bit down hard on the back of her hand to muffle the sob that threatened to burst out.

She didn’t remember how she made it up the stairs. She just knew she ended up in the bathtub, letting the hot water pour over her until her skin burned. But even the scalding heat couldn’t chase away the chill in her bones.

Her body ached, her head throbbed, and her heart felt like it was being crushed.

Kael had drained hermentally, emotionally, physically.

Everything about him, from his lies to his betrayal, had left her exhausted.

By the time Kael woke up in Moon Bay Apartment, he was lying in a soft bed.

He assumed Nova had brought him home, and a surge of joy shot through him.

He rolled over, reaching out to pull her into his armsonly to be hit by a sickly sweet perfume that made his brow furrow.

Sloane snuggled into his side like a clinging vine, rubbing her eyes sleepily. It’s still earlylet’s sleep a little longer.”

That woke Kael up fully.

He shoved Sloane away, sitting up abruptly, his voice cold as ice. Why am I here?”

Sloane’s back hit the nightstand with a thud. The physical pain was sharp, but nothing compared to the sting of his rejection.

All her pentup grievances spilled out.

Her eyes turned red as she snapped, You were kneeling there in the rain! If I hadn’t gone to get you, you could’ve died from hypothermia!”

Kael’s face darkened. He threw back the covers, grabbing his clothes off the floordry or not and yanking them on I didn’t ask for your help

This words out Shane to the core

She’d humiliated herself, practically begging him to let her care for him, and now he was dismissing her like she was nothing.

She laughed bitterly, tears streaming down her face. Right you didn’t ask for me. You were waiting for Nova to save you. But did she? Did she even

look at you?”

Kael’s hands froze mid button. He shot her a glare so sharp it could’ve sliced glass.

Sloane flinched, but she didn’t back down. She was tired of holding backshe wanted to hunt him as much as he’d hurt her.

Do you know what your temperature was last night? 32 PP she shouted, her voice cracking. If I’d been five minutes later, you might’ve been dead! And where was Nova? Sate inside her house, watching you freeze. She didn’t ove Tell me, Kaeldid she care? At all?”

Watching his face twist with repressed agony, Sloane inched closer, her voice softening the only one who-The only one who truly loves you.

plea as she reached for him. Kaeldon’t you see? I’m

Kael brushed her hand away before she could finish. His tone was final, unyielding. Even if I’d out there last night, I wouldn’t have wanted your help.

Whatever Nova doeswhether she cares for me or notI’ll take it. If she’s kind, I’ll be grateful. If she’s not, I’ll live with i

But you, Sloane? Stay out of my life.”

He grabbed his suit jacket off the chair and headed for the door, not sparing her a second glance.

Sloane stared at his retreating back, her face ashen.

She felt like a clowndancing for his attention, only to be ignored and mocked. She’d given him everything: her time, her affection, even her dignity. And he’d thrown it all away.

A fierce resolve took hold of her. She bit her lip until it bled, then chased after Kael, wrapping her arms tightly around his waist.

She was beautiful, she was youngwhat did Nova have that she didn’t? Just ten years of a fading relationship.

Kael, don’t go.she whispered, pressing her cheek to his back. I won’t upset you anymorejust don’t leave me here.”

Kael pried her hands off his waist and spun around.

Sloane’s lower lip trembled, hope flickering in her chestmaybe he’d softened? She threw herself into his armsonly to be slammed against the wall

Ah!she gasped, pain shooting through her back. Tears spilled down her face.

Kael’s eyes held no warmth. He gripped her shoulders, his fingers digging into her skin. “Sloane, you better pray Nova never finds out you went to the villa. If she does, I’ll make you regret it.”

His gaze was so cold, so dangerous, that Sloane felt a shiver run down her spine/This wasn’t the Kael she knewthis was a stranger, and he terrified her.

She nodded quickly, her voice shaking. She didn’t see me! I went when she was asleep, I swear!”

Kael’s grip loosened slightly. He let go of her, and she crumpled to the floor like a discarded rag doll.

He said coldly, not a shred of sympathy in his eyes, No more mistakes at the press conference tomorrow. Behave yourself.”

He straightened his cuffs, then walked out, his footsteps echoing like a death knell.

Sloane sat on the floor, stunned, then horror turned to overwhelming grief.

Why couldn’t he see what she’d done for him?

Why did he only have eyes for Nova?

She hugged her knees to her chest, sobbing uncontrollablyuntil her phone rang.

Sloane, the video’s ready.”

Sloane stared out at the dark night, her voice cold and hard. Send it to me.”

A press conference, huh?

She wasn’t going to let Nova walk away unscathed.

Back at the villa, Nova had taken a hot shower, but she still felt cold.

She dug out some medicine from the cabinet, took a dose, and collapsed onto the bedonly to be haunted by images of Kael and Sloane.

At 17, Kael had been the light of her youth. He’d made her heart race, her cheeks flush, and she’d thought their love would last forever.

Now, that foreverfelt like a cruel jokememories that cut deeper than

any knife.

Nova let out a bitter laugh.

Then suddenly, she heard unsteady footsteps in the hallway.
