Chapter 102 Nova’s Final Decision!

Nova’s face paled. She sat up straight, her throat tightready to call out, to demand answerswhen the bedroom door creaked open

Kael stumbled in, flipping on the light. He was drunk, his eyes glassy as he stumbled toward her. Nova…. why didn’t you care? Why dad you leave me out there?”

Sloane’s words from today had burrowed into his mind. He’d pretended not to care, but they’d cut him deeper than he wanted to admit.

Once, even a short business trip would make Nova pester him for details: where he was going, how long he’d be gone, who he’d be with

He’d tease her, saying, Should I tie you to my belt so you can come with me everywhere? And she’d push him away, blushing, Who cares about you? You’re the one who volunteers all the info!”

You little thing!he’d teased, but deep in his heart, he loved her possessiveness, her concernit had made him feel loved

But somewhere along the way, she’d stopped asking. She didn’t care about his trips, his meetings, or who he spent time with.

Kael’s heart ached. He pulled her into a tight hug, refusing to let go. Babycare about me again. Don’t shut me out.”

Nova’s eyes stung.

She’d caredso much it had hurt. But what had that care gotten her?

Betrayal and humiliation.

She’d been a fool to think her love could fix him.

How did you get in?she snapped, shoving at his chest. Get away from medon’t touch me!

He’d just been with Sloane, and now he had the nerve to act like nothing had happened? It was sickening!

I’m sorrytell me what to do to make you forgive me,Kael slurred. He was clingy when he was drunk, his large frame pinning her in place so she couldn’t escape.

NovaHe nuzzled her neck like a lost puppy, desperate for her affection.

Nova sighed, exhausted. She didn’t have the energy to fight. Finestop acting like this. It’s late. I’ll take you to bed.”

At her soft tone, Kael calmed down, letting her lead him to the guest room.

She pushed him onto the bed, ready to leavebut he grabbed her arm, yanking her into his arms.

Don’t go,he mumbled, his grip irontight. Don’t leave me”

Nova’s heart throbbed. She struggled, but he wouldn’t let go. Finally, she gave up, waiting for him to fall asleep.

Slowly, his breathing evened out.

Nova carefully pried his arms off her, sitting up. She looked down at his facehandsome, even in sleep.

Once, just the sight of him had made her heart flutter. Now, it only made her sad.

NovaKael whispered in his sleep, his voice soft and tenderjust like it had been all those years ago, when he’d bike her home after night classes, holding her close for just a little longer before saying goodbye.

But those days were gone. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t bring back that spark.

Tears blurred her vision. She leaned over, pressing her forehead to his back, her voice breaking. Kael! Don’t you realize you’re about to lose me? For good?”

It was the first time she’d ever said it out loudher biggest fear, her deepest pain.

If I could go back, I’d never choose you. Not once.”

But there was no going back. No doovers.

Nova forced a bitter smile, then stood up and walked out, moving like a marionette with its strings cut.

Back in her bedroom, she checked her phoneit was past 2 AM. Kael always knew how to ruin her nights.

She was about to set it down when a message popped up.

Her fingers froze. The pain that shot through her chest was so sharp, she could barely breathe.

It was from Sloane.

[How’s it feel to be his maid?]

[Spending months with a man who’s been with memust sting, huh?]

Sloane had torn open her oldest, deepest woundraw and bleeding.

Nova remembered the first time she’d suspected Kael was cheating: a single chestnut hair on his shirt.

She never dyed her hairthis strand of hair must belong to someone else.

Afraid that asking would shatter the fragile peace they still had. Afraid that his answer would be the one she’d been dreading all along. So she bit her lip, forced a smile, and let the questions burn in her chest.

She’d told herself it was a fluke, that he’d picked it up somewhere by accident.

Then she’d seen him with Sloaneyoung, beautiful, fresh out of college, her chestnut hair cascading down her back.

Nova, worn down by years in the corporate world, had lost that youthful glow long ago.

How does a hair end up on someone’s shirt? Not by accident. She’d known it then, even if she’d refused to admit it. The man she’d loved for ten years had betrayed her.

Those months had been a blur of alcohol and despair. She’d drunk herself to sleep on nights he didn’t come home, while he lied about business tripsand took Sloane on vacations. And just last night, he’d asked why she didn’t care anymore.

Because she couldn’t.

She’d used up all her care, all her love, on a man who didn’t deserve it.

Nova’s eyes were redrimmed, her shoulders trembling despite her efforts to hold it together.

Then a voice message from Sloane popped up. Nova, I used to envy you, you know? You’re such an amazing womanBut look at you nowso pathetic, so desperate.

What’s the difference between you and a maid?”

Nova’s vision blurred with tears. She typed back, her fingers shaking: [Better than a cheap whore like you.]

The messages stopped.

Nova sneered. If Sloane wanted to play dirty, she could play too.

[Sloane, do you even know what time it is? You’re up this late just to annoy me? Pathetic.]

[Or is that watchon your wrist not the only thing that makes you a bitch?]

After sending the message, Sloane didn’t reply for ages.

Nova tossed her phone aside, stumbling into the bathroom. She turned on the shower, letting cold water pour over her. Her face was pale, and she clutched her heaving chestit ached so badly, like it was being squeezed.

Deep down, she knew the truthshe’d been the only loser in this mess. Completely, utterly defeated.

She’d wasted her youth, abandoned her dreams, and turned into the kind of person she once hated most…

But at least she’d picked her dream back up. She’d never give up on being a designer again.

She stood under the cold spray until her skin was rubbed raw and pink. Finally, she turned off the water, dried herself, and slipped into a bathrobe.

As she always did, she grabbed a marker, walked to the calendar on the wall, and drew a thick X over one of the dates.

Thirteen days left.

The next morning, Kael woke up alone. He reached out, halfexpecting to find Nova’s side of the bed warmbut it was cold.

Still, he smiled. He remembered her helping him to bed, her soft voice calming him down. It was a start. She still cared.

His phone rang. It was Sam.

Mr. Voss, the press conference is ready. Ms. Reed and the other guest are here. We’re just waiting for you and Mrs. Voss.”

Keep an eye on thingsno mistakes,Kael said, his tone serious. We’ll be there soon.”

Got it. Mr. Voss.”

Kael got dressed, whistling softly. After the press conference, he’d take Nova on a honeymoonsomewhere tropical, where they could talk, where he

could win her back.

But when he walked downstairs, his smile faded.

Nova was standing in the living room, a suitcase at her feet.

His heart dropped. Novawhat’s with the suitcase? He tried to sound casual, but his voice trembled, his face pale.

Nova’s makeup hid the dark circles under her eyes, but her tone was icy.

She stared at him coldly. You keep harassing me. I’m moving out. After the press conference, I don’t want a repeat of last night.”

Kael panicked. Letting her leave was worse than dying. NoI’ll leave. I promise, I won’t bother you again without your permission. He grabbed the suitcase, his eyes red.

Nova didn’t believe him. She held out her hand. Spare keys. And the access card.”

Kael’s jaw tightened. He didn’t want to give them upbut her cold, unwavering gaze left him no choice. He pulled the keys and card out of his pocket and handed them over.

Nova took them, then threw them into the trash can. She didn’t even look at him as she walked toward the door. Aren’t we going to the press

Conference? Let’s go.”

Kael stared at the trash can at his keys, his last link to her. It felt like a piece of his heart had been thrown away with them.

Humiliation and sorrow washed over him.

But what scared him most was her tonelike after today, they’d never see each other again.

What was she planning!
