Chapter 28 Breakdown–Caught in the Act!
Josh Cain saw her from a distance and waved.
He was a veteran of Voss Group, now the president of the branch office. Having been in business for over a decade, he exuded smoothness in every move–a
smiling tiger.
Nova hung up the phone and walked over. “Mr. Cain.”
“Didn’t Kael come with you?” Josh teased.
Nova smiled. “Work is work, life is life.”
Josh chuckled.
After a brief chat, he got to the point. “Flourish Group sent Evan. He’s new in his position–hard to handle. I’ll take the drinks for you. If I can’t, just take a few sips. Be careful.”
Nova felt warm. “Thank you, Mr. Cain.”
When they pushed open the private room door, Evan Anderson looked up. His eyes immediately locked on Nova–poised and graceful.
A look of admiration flashed, and he raised an eyebrow.
Josh shook his hand with a laugh. “Evan, you’re even better in person than I’d heard. Nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you, Mr. Cain,” Evan smiled.
Then he turned to Nova, grinning. “This must be Mr. Voss‘ wife–Ms. Nova Hale? The marketing manager?”
Nova smiled, extending her hand politely. “Hello.”
After pleasantries, they got down to business.
The table was cluttered with empty wine bottles–red and white.
Josh had taken many drinks for Nova.
Evan was indeed a tough nut. After two hours of negotiation, they finally signed the next quarter’s cooperation at a compromise price.
Nova was organizing documents when Evan swirled his wine glass. His eyes lingered on her. “Ms. Hale, you’re so capable. Have you ever thought about moving to another company?”
Nova set down the files, hesitating. “I’ll consider it.”
Evan smirked, not pressing further.
He set down his glass and asked, “Could you call the waiter for me, Ms. Hale?”
“Sure,” Nova thought he wanted more drinks. She put down her files and walked toward the door.
Suddenly, footsteps came from behind. A strong arm wrapped tightly around her waist. Thick alcohol fumes and aggressive male pheromones invaded her
senses.
Alarm bells rang in Nova’s head. She twisted away, staring at Evan warily. “Evan!”
Evan rubbed his fingertips, as if savoring the softness.
His eyes were predatory as he stepped closer. “Ms. Hale, I gave Voss Group such a big gift. Won’t you give me something in return?”

Nova frowned deeply, voice cold. “I’m Kael’s wife! This cooperation was too important she didn’t want to ruin it
Dvan didn’t care, and he laughed recklessly, “So what? Marriage can be ended. I really like you. Why not be with me? Someone as capable as you, and Kael outy gave you a marketing manager position? Ite clearly doesn’t value you. I can give you so much more.”
Nova felt sick and kicked him hard, pushing open the door. She remembered Josh was taking a call in the hallway. “Mr. Caint”
Before she could finish, she was pulled back.
“Ah…”
Evan laughed, “Josh sold you out long ago. You’re still stupid enough to seek his help.”
sova’s face turned pale. Memories flashed–Josh’s caring voice two hours ago, his help over the years.
she’d always seen him as an elder. But he’d done something worse than a beast.
ter heart plummeted into an ice cave.
van sneered, reaching for her cheek, “Sad?”
Jova slapped his hand away in disgust, then grabbed a vase from the side and swung it at his head.
Get away from me!”
lang!
van dodged quickly, but still got a cut on his cheek.
lis face darkened–patience gone, and he narrowed his eyes. “I wanted to be gentle.”
Jova was no match for his strength and was easily thrown onto the sofa.
Aren’t you afraid Kael will take revenge?” She could only use Kael to threaten him.
van paused, then kept moving. “I wonder–will he choose profit, or his woman?”
efore he finished, Evan suddenly collapsed to the floor with a thud.
Jova’s chest heaved, her face as white as a sheet.
Miss, are you okay?” A uniformed bodyguard asked worriedly.
Tova bit her pale lip, pushing herself up. “Th–thank you…”
We’ll take this man to the police station later. Don’t worry,”
fova nodded numbly, thanking him.
fer red eyes stared at unconscious Evan, then at the thought of Josh…
Scumbags! She clenched her fists.
Meanwhile, on the balcony outside the private room, Jax reported, “Mr. Thorne, the bodyguards have been sent. Ms. Hale should be safe now.”
Corin lit a cigarette, clamping it between his teeth. Then he took a deep drag, voice hoarse. “Got it.”
After hanging up, an indescribable restlessness lingered.
Corin frowned.

Helping Nova once was a coincidence–but what about the second, third time? And he knew she was married.
He crushed the cigarette, eyes deep and unreadable.
This is the last time!
Evan was taken to the police station, detained for a week. Most there were gangsters–it would be tough for him.
After giving her statement, Nova went straight to the company.
By coincidence, she ran into Josh downstairs.
When Josh saw her, he froze. “No-”
Slap!
Nova slapped him hard.
Josh was caught off guard, and his old face turned dark with anger.
He was used to flattery–never humiliated like this.
He glared at her, growling, “Nova! Are you crazy? This is outside the company!”
Nova sneered, “So you’re afraid of being seen? I thought you had no shame–a beast. Rotten to the core!”
Josh’s face flushed red.
Since the cat was out of the bag, he stopped pretending. He spat on the ground, gritting his teeth.
“You’ve been marketing manager too long–getting arrogant! You have no power or connections. If it weren’t for Kael, you wouldn’t be here today!
“Trading you for the Flourish Group project is giving you face! If you can’t do the job, there are plenty of people who can. Don’t push your luck!”
Josh snorted and walked away, confident.
His bodyguards blocked Nova, warning coldly, “Ms. Hale, if you go too far, we won’t be polite.”
Nova was alone–no match for several strong men.
She trembled with anger, watching Josh get in the car and leave.
She took a deep breath, pulling out her phone to call Kael.
When vulnerable, people instinctively reach for someone they can rely on.
She desperately hoped Kael would stand up for her.
At that moment, Kael was lost in pleasure, panting heavily.
Sloane sat on his lap, face flushed. Her soft fingertips traced circles on his chest.
“Kael, did you like that?” Her voice was sweet, melting into his bones.
Kael stared at her, eyes clouded with desire.
This woman was truly tempting. He’d wanted to cut ties, but she clung to him like candy–hard to resist.
“Kael, I’ll be good this time. No more trouble. I’ll accept the contract termination. Don’t push me away…” Sloane pleaded, eyes glistening.

Kael stroked her hair, silent for a moment.
He was about to speak when his phone on the table vibrated.
It was Nova.
Guilt washed over him instantly.
He told Sloane to be quiet, then answered, “Nova?”
“Kael, are you in the office? I need to talk to you.” Nova’s voice was hoarse.
As soon as the words fell, the office door was suddenly pushed open.
