Chapter 32 The Great Showdown–Corin Got Revenge for HerÂ
“Sloane…”Â
At the sight of her daughter, Heather acted as if she’d grabbed a lifeline.Â
She complained pitifully, “This is so unfair! Nova bullied you, and now she’s bullied me too… You must have put up with so much from her, haven’t you?Â
“My poor baby…”Â
Kael frowned, his deep eyes darkening–no one could tell what he was feeling.Â
Nova’s face turned cold instantly, and she couldn’t help but glance at her husband. Sure enough, the moment he heard Sloane had been wronged, his expression changed.Â
In that instant, it felt like a needle had stabbed her heart–sharp and painful.Â
“Mom!” Sloane suddenly spoke up to stop Heather.Â
She pulled at her mother’s arm, her whole body looking fragile and delicate. “This has nothing to do with Nova. Don’t talk nonsense…”Â
Heather’s eyes widened, her frustration boiling over.Â
Sloane lowered her gaze, touched her own swollen, beaten cheek, and said softly, “The two guys who attacked me had accents–they didn’t sound like they were from New York. They sounded more like they were from Seattle, our hometown. Ms. Hale is a born and raised New Yorker. How would she know anyone fromÂ
Seattle? It can’t be her…”Â
At those words, Nova’s brows furrowed sharply, and she clenched her fists tightly.Â
That Sloane–she was practically saying Corin had gotten back at her for Nova!Â
Nova glanced at Kael instinctively and could clearly feel the man beside her grow even more imposing…Â
Heather hugged her daughter tightly, her heart aching. “You’re just too kind, baby. It’s my fault too–I don’t have the power to protect you, so you got hurt…”Â
Sloane choked up, cast a subtle glance at Kael, then lowered her eyes in grievance. “It’s okay. It doesn’t hurt that much…”Â
As she spoke, she took careful steps toward Kael and Nova, her head bowed respectfully. “Mr. Voss, Ms. Hale, I’m so sorry. My mom has a hot temper and can be careless. Let me apologize for her. I’m truly sorry.”Â
Her tone was so aggrieved, it was as if Nova had been the one bullying her.Â
Nova curled her lips into a cold smirk.Â
She couldn’t help but look at Kael–he was staring at Sloane with a deep, intense gaze, his face written all over with worry.Â
It was ridiculous. They’d been in love for nine years, yet he hadn’t even given her the most basic trust. Now, he didn’t even favor her anymore? The moment his mistress cried, he felt sorry for her?Â
Nova’s eyes suddenly stung with bitterness, and she took a deep breath.Â
She was about to speak, her voice hoarse, telling them all to get out–when another cold voice cut her off.Â
“What good is an apology? Your mom accused my wife without a shred of evidence and even hit her. I could easily press charges for assault! She’d end up in jail for ten or fifteen days!Â
“And you,” Kael’s eyes turned fierce, his tone oozing with menace, “you had a big hand in stirring this up too. Don’t act like you’re innocent!”Â
When he finished speaking, the atmosphere in the room dropped to freezing, making it hard to breathe.Â
The triumphant look on Sloane’s face vanished instantly. A chill shot up from the soles of her feet, and her legs began to shake.Â

She couldn’t believe Karl hadn’t even questioned Nova about her relationship with Corin–Instead, he was threatening her and her mother like us….Â
she pressed her pale lips together, looking utterly wronged Mr. Voss, please listen to me. We didn’t-Â
“Mr. Voss! You can’t treat us like this! The second Heather heard the word “Jail,” she panicked.Â
She stepped forward to grab Kael’s sleeve, her voice desperate. You can’t do this to ust Sloane and you-Â
“Shut up!” Kael snapped coldly, then called to the bodyguards outside the door. “Drag them out. And call 911–press charges for assault”Â
Boom!Â
Sloane felt like the sky had collapsed on her.Â
She was a public figure–if she ended up at the police station, she couldn’t afford the negative attention.Â
Is Kael really going to be this ruthless? No! Impossible…Â
She bit her lip, her eyes red as she looked at Kael. But the man paid her no mind–his attention was on Nova the entire time.Â
Sloane ground her back teeth in jealousy.Â
Seeing Heather was about to argue again, Sloane quickly pulled her back, hissing quietly, “Enough, Mom. Stop talking!”Â
Heather was so frustrated, she nearly bit through her inner lip.Â
At the same time, the ward door pushed open. Two bodyguards walked in, showed no mercy as they grabbed Heather and Sloane by the shoulders, and dragge them out.Â
Sloane was overwhelmed with grievance. Through her tears, she glanced back–and saw Kael pulling Nova into his arms, speaking to her in a soft, gentle voice He looked so tender it was sickening.Â
Compare that to her and her mom–they’d been tossed aside like garbage, not even worth a second glance from Kael.Â
‘Sloane! You went through all that, and Kael doesn’t even care? He’s gonna throw us in jail?” Heather felt absurd, her eyes streaming with tears. “Wasn’t he loting on you? Wasn’t he ignoring his own wife? How could he be this heartless?!”Â
Sloane’s face turned ashen, like she’d been slapped twice. Hearing those words now only made her feel humiliated.Â
feather fumed, “That Nova is going too far! You make a living with your face, and she let someone beat you up like this!”Â
That comment hit Sloane right where it hurt. For a top celebrity, her face was everything.Â
loane was so angry, her face twisted,Â
Jarlier, when Kael had been driving her home, he’d gotten a phone call and left her alone on the street. It was late at night–she’d barely managed to hail a taxi when she ran into those thugs. She hadn’t even seen their faces before they’d put a hood over her head, beaten her up, and dumped her in an alley…Â
fumiliation, pain–she’d endured it all. Her face still hurt like hell! It was infuriating! This has to be that bitch Nova’s doing! A venomous glint flashed in Hoane’s eyes.Â
Inside the ward, Kael took Nova’s hand, helped her sit on the bed, then fetched an ice pack to press against her cheek.Â
‘My Nova’s been wronged,” he said. A flash of darkness crossed his face, but his voice was gentle as he spoke to her. He nuzzled the top of her head affectionately. “I’ll make them pay for this.Â
“I should’ve protected you better today….Â
“I’m sorry, baby…”Â
Nova felt a little dazed.Â

She really hadn’t expected Kacl to go this far. Even more surprising he hadn’t questioned her about Corin. Wasn’t that the thing he cared about most?Â
A bitter laugh tugged at Nova’s lips. But that didn’t mean her broken heart–hurt by him so many times–was ready to take him back.Â
“Aren’t you gonna ask about the guy sloane mentioned?” Nova pulled away from his warmth, her voice cold and indifferent.Â
Kael froze for a moment, his expression shifting between light and shadow.Â
After a few seconds, he smiled, reached out, and ruffled her soft hair. “I trust you.”Â
I trust you.Â
Those three words made Nova pause. Her heart felt like it had been thrown into a storm.Â
Kael set the ice pack aside, then said, “You must be hungry. I’ll have someone send more food over…” He pulled out his phone to order something for Nova.Â
Nova pulled herself together–she wasn’t going to punish her stomach, then nodded.Â
While Kael went downstairs to pick up the takeout, Nova headed to the nurses‘ station to ask the on–duty nurse for cotton swabs–she’d need them later to eapply her medication.Â
he inpatient department was quiet at night.Â
As she walked down the hallway, she rounded a corner–and a familiar figure came into view…Â
lova froze, her steps halting.Â
