Chapter 33 The Truth Came Out–Some Rejoiced, Some GrievedÂ
Ms. HaleÂ
It was sloane.Â
Nova’s face turned cold–she had no desire to interact with Sloane at all, so she strode forward, intent on walking past her.Â
But Sloane smiled and stepped in her way.Â
Staring at Nova’s fair, beautiful face, Sloane thought of her own bruised cheeks, and hatred gnawed at her.Â
“You must be pretty happy watching Kael chew me and my mom out earlier, huh?”Â
“Meh.” Nova stopped, giving her a mocking smile. “You two are just a pair of bitches. It’s only natural you’d make fools of yourselves.” Her tone was laced withÂ
sarcasm.Â
Sloane’s temples throbbed with anger–she was furious.Â
Nova roughly brushed Sloane’s hand away and kept walking.Â
“Don’t get too cocky–this is as good as it gets for you.” Sloane suddenly curled her lips into a smirk, crossing her arms over her chest. “Kael was just sparing your feelings by sticking up for you in front of me and my mom! Otherwise, you–his so–called wife–would’ve lost the last shred of dignity you have left.”Â
That hit exactly where Nova hurt the most–the part she most wanted to forget, the part she couldn’t bear to think about.Â
Even if she didn’t care anymore, hearing it spelled out so bluntly–especially coming from Sloane–was humiliating.Â
Nova closed her eyes and dug her nails into her palm.Â
Sloane sauntered over, snorting, “I forgot to ask last time–that couch in Kael’s office lounge is pretty comfy, isn’t it? I heard you spent ages having it custom–made? Tsk, it really is nice.Â
“Thanks for going to all that trouble decorating it. Kael and I both enjoyed it a lot.”Â
Sloane glanced at Nova’s dark expression, continued, “Actually, when Kael told you what he wanted for that couch? He was just passing along my preferences.Â
“I’ve never seen anyone as stupid as you–you were so happy, running around getting everything set up like a little errand girl…”Â
Boom!Â
Nova felt like she’d been struck by lightning. The small bag of cotton swabs in her hand dropped to the floor with a soft “thud.”Â
She’d gone to so much trouble, carefully designing that couch for him. Even in the sweltering summer, she’d run around in the sun buying cushions and linens, all because he’d asked. And now–all of it had been based on Sloane’s tastes, not his?Â
Nova let out a bitter laugh. The more she laughed, the redder her eyes got… The more she thought about it, the more she felt like a clown.Â
How ironic!Â
Seeing Nova’s wounded, dazed expression, Sloane finally felt a twinge of satisfaction.Â
But it wasn’t enough.Â
“Don’t be sad, Ms. Hale–I should actually thank you.” Sloane batted her eyes, looking innocent enough. But her words were like knives, stabbing straight intoÂ
Nova’s heart.Â
“Thank you for running the Marketing Department so well. It made it so easy for my brother to just step in and take the credit. I’ll definitely remember this favor.” Sloane laughed openly, triumphantly.Â
Nova felt like her soul had been sucked out.Â

but then her smile grew wider. She leaned in, whispering venomously in Nova’s ear, “I really regret it–tonight, I should’ve let those men gang rape yourÂ
At those words, Nova’s eyes widened in shock.Â
Se it had been Sloane–she’d been behind the attack that nearly happened to her tonight!Â
Sloane ground her teeth. Then I could’ve taken photos of you, Ms. Hale. With a body like yours, they would’ve gone viral online for sure!TMÂ
Crack!Â
A loud slap landed hard on Sloane’s face.Â
“Ah!” Sloane stumbled backward from the force, barely keeping herself from falling to the floor.Â
She clutched her stinging cheek, tears streaming down her face, her eyes looking so pitiful.Â
“Ms. Hale, I’m sorry!” she sobbed. “I shouldn’t have said those men who kidnapped me were from Seattle. Please, let my mom and me go! I’ll never do it again…”Â
Nova’s eyes sharpened. Looking at Sloane’s fake act, she knew Kael must be nearby.Â
She glanced to the side–and sure enough, she saw the tall, broad figure of Kael. He was standing not too far away, so he must have seen her slap Sloane and heard every word Sloane had said.Â
At that moment, Kael’s face was dark as a storm. He strode over, snapping, “What the hell is going on here!” His first words were a cold accusation.Â
Nova’s heart twitched numbly.Â
Sloane’s tear–stained eyelashes fluttered. She bowed her head meekly, looking so pitiful that it was impossible not to feel sorry for her.Â
She touched her swollen cheek, her eyes glistening with tears.Â
“Mr. Voss, those men who kidnapped me tonight–they weren’t from Seattle. I was just panicking earlier, so I said the wrong thing… They really weren’t fromÂ
Nova’s eyes turned icy cold.Â
On the surface, Sloane was taking back her words–but her tone was so pitiful, any outsider would think Nova had threatened her.Â
And right now, Kael was already sensitive to anything related to Seattle… or CorinÂ
Hearing this now, how could he not suspert she was having an affair with Corin?Â
Sure enough, Kael’s handsome face was now so dark it looked like it could drip rain. A menacing aura surrounded him, and the air around them seemed to grow heavier.Â
Earlier, in the ward, when she’d asked about Corin, she’d heard the restraint in his voice when he said, “I trust you”Â
But how many times could a man endure this?Â
He gave her a meaningful look–one that made it hard to breathe for no reason…Â
Nova’s heart felt cold and sore, and she dug her nails deeper into her palm.Â

sloane picked up on the change in Kael’s mood, then she sniffted.Â
“Mi. Voss, I’m sorry–1 said the wrong thing earlier…”Â
“Sloane, you’re so damn cheap! You just beg to be hit, don’t you?” Nova’s face was cold as she raised her hand to slap Sloane again.Â
Corin had been kind enough to help her, and now he was being falsely accused–plus, she had to put up with Kael’s suspicions on top of itÂ
Emotionally and logically, she couldn’t take it anymore.Â
Right now, she didn’t even care what Kael thought. Let him think whatever he wants!Â
Stop it! Kael grabbed her wrist, stopping her hand mid–swing before it could hit Sloane…Â
n that instant, Nova’s eyes turned red, and humiliation burned in her nose. She forced her eyes wide open to hold back the tears.Â
Joane saw this, and a flash of cunning triumph sparkled in her eyes.Â
Cael hated nothing more than the idea of Nova and Corin being involved.Â
ast time at Jasmine Manor, Nova had gotten lucky and escaped suspicion–but Sloane refused to believe Kael was that forgiving, that he didn’t doubt her at all! his time, she was going to watch Nova lose all her dignity right in front of her!Â
With that thought, she looked up at Kael, speaking softly, “Mr. Voss, it’s okay. Please don’t let this come between you and Ms. Hale. I was the one who said theÂ
rong thing in the ward earlier. Those men who hurt me weren’t from Seattle–why would Ms. Hale have any connection to people from Seattle, anyway?”Â
he was still adding fuel to the fire.Â
ael’s face was now covered in storm clouds.Â
lova’s chest ached with a dull pain. She gave Sloane a cold glare, then looked at her husband, who was openly defending another woman.Â
nd here she was, caught in the middle, looking like a complete joke.Â
o matter what she did, it was useless. Kael would always take Sloane’s side.Â
he pulled hard, trying to free her wrist from his grip…Â
