In fact, the moment he threw the papers, Kael regretted it but the thought of her lying to him and sneaking off to see Corin made his anger spike again. 

He slammed his fist on the desk and kicked over a chair. “Why aren’t you talking? If this hadn’t been exposed, how long would you have kept cheating on me 

behind my back?

His eyes were red rimmed, glistening with unshed tears–as if he were the one who’d been deeply wronged. 

Nova was stunned by his words. She stared at the toppled chair, her mind reeling. 

What had she done wrong? 

Wasn’t she the one who’d been wronged, who’d been left out in the cold all this time? 

Wasn’t she the one who’d been fooled like a fool? Hadn’t he been the one to promise he’d love only her, then break that promise first? 

She forced down the overwhelming pain in her chest and bent to pick up the scattered papers. “Kael, we need to-” 

Suddenly, a foot pressed down on the papers–and her fingers.

Kael was too consumed by anger to notice.

Kael’s face twisted with agony. His hands, hanging at his sides, clenched into tight fists. 

After a moment, he took the gift bag from her.

When he saw what was inside, his breath caught in his throat–his eyes trembling violently. 

It was a suit 

Nova hadn’t bought him a suit in years. 

A sudden, overwhelming panic washed over Kael. Nova’s heart ached with bitterness. After picking out Corin’s suit, she’d passed this one in the mall and thought it would suit Kael perfectly. She’d hesitated for a long time before buying it. 

Now, it just felt like a ridiculous, self deluded gesture. 

Her eyes were still red as she looked at him. “Marriage takes two people to work. I really thought you’d change, and I wanted to try too. I went to the mall to buy you this suit to surprise you. I asked your assistant where you were, then went to the Royal Fencing Club to find you.” 

Kael’s heart felt like it was being stabbed. He couldn’t even bring himself to meet her broken gaze. 

He pulled her into a tight hug. “Enough. Stop talking. It’s my fault.” 

Nova’s chin rested on his broad shoulder. She couldn’t break free–and once, she’d truly believed this shoulder would be her safe haven. 

She bit her lip, sobbing softly. “I don’t know if you really changed. The old Kael would never have raised his voice at me, let alone hit me. If anyone dared say a bad word about me, he’d have grabbed a chair to teach them a lesson. The man who loved me that much–now he hurts me.” 

Kael’s heart felt like it was shattering. Guilt weighed on him, making him hold her even tighter–as if only this could prove he still had her. 

“Baby, I’m so sorry. I really am. I shouldn’t have thrown things at you. Come back to me, please. Hit me, yell at me–anything. 

“I was just scared. Scared you’d leave me.” 

He lifted her into his arms without warning, setting her down on the couch. He knelt in front of her, his voice desperate. “I’ve dealt with Corin before. He’s cold 

ruthless–he has a mean streak. I know how men like him work. I was scared you’d be fooled by his act. 

“Now Corin’s gone back to Seattle. We can go back to how we were before. I’ll make it up to you, I promise. You’ve been so wronged these past few days…” 

He rambled on, desperate to shift the blame to Corin, to clear himself of guilt. 

But this “cold, ruthless” man had come to her rescue more times than she could count. 

Meanwhile, Kael–her husband–had been busy with his mistress. 

Nova was exhausted. She didn’t have the energy to argue anymore. 

She didn’t know if she’d ever cross paths with Corin again. 

All she knew was that in eighteen days, she’d never have to see Kael again. 

Yael grew more panicked as she remained silent. 

He wracked his brain, trying to find ways to comfort her–when suddenly, the office door burst open. 

Karl’s brows snapped together. He glared at the door, his patience gone. “What the hell is going on?!” 

Sam flinched under his gaze, but he knew he couldn’t delay. “Mr. Voss, we have a lead on the person from the Royal Fencing Club you asked us to find.” 

Nova’s heart skipped a beat. 

Kael’s expression darkened. He glanced at Nova, and as he pulled her to her feet, he could feel her palms sweating. 

He paused, his eyes narrowing at Sam. “Bring them in.” 

Sam nodded. 

Three minutes later, a woman in a Royal Fencing Club uniform walked in. She was short and slightly overweight, with short hair, and she looked nervous and

When she saw Nova, her eyes widened. She pointed at Nova and exclaimed, “That’s her! She came to the Royal Fencing Club this morning–right after you left. Mr. Voss! Jaxs personally came down to get her!” 

As the words left her mouth, Nova could feel the hands holding hers tighten sharply. 

‘Is that so?” Kael’s voice was cold, laced with sarcasm–but he didn’t lose his temper. 

Nova’s heart racing, her teeth chattered slightly as she asked, “You believe her… not me?” 

Cael’s eyes narrowed. He stared at the woman, his voice dangerous. “Do you know what happens to people who lie to me?”
