Chapter 58 She Was Bullied, and He Watched Coldly
Daisy screamed in pain as the hot custard burned her, “Nova, have you lost your mind?!”
“Since you wanted to play the victim, why not make it real?” Nova shot her a glare, then turned her icy gaze to Alison. “We’re all someone’s child. For you to say something like that… your so called manners‘ are truly disappointing.”
Alison’s face burned with humiliation. She trembled with rage. “Fine, Nova–just fine! Kael, now do you see her true colors?!”
“Stop using him to intimidate me!” Nova’s eyes were red rimmed. She couldn’t bear to look at Kael’s cold, indifferent expression, so she forced down the bitterness in her throat. “I’m protective of my family–no one gets to badmouth them. That slap was lenient. Do it again, and I’ll hit harder.”
“You… you…” Alison’s face turned so dark it looked like storm clouds. She’d been a respected socialite for decades–when had she ever been humiliated like this? Twice in one day!
She raised her hand to slap Nova.
Caught off guard, Nova flinched, squeezing her eyes shut and turning her head away.
“Enough!” Kael grabbed Alison’s wrist and shoved her hand away hard.
Nova froze, stunned.
In the next second, Kael’s strong arm wrapped around her waist, a solid, reassuring weight that felt like a shield.
“You want an explanation?” His voice was dark and low. Tll give you one.”
Alison and Daisy both froze.
Alison’s brows furrowed sharply. She scoffed. “Kael, do you know what you’re doing? I’m your mother! You saw her hit me–with your own eyes!”
Nova’s heart skipped a beat. Unconsciously, she clung to the corner of Kael’s shirt.
Kael only patted her shoulder gently, a silent comfort, before turning to glare at Alison. That slap Nova gave you was nothing. If I’d been here, one slap wouldn’t have been enough.”
Alison’s face paled. She staggered, almost losing her balance, half–convinced she was hallucinating.
Kael’s voice turned colder. “Your credit cards are frozen, and that vineyard I gave you is mine again. This is my last warning–stop bossing Nova around. She’s my woman. If you have a problem with her, take it up with me. If I hear you pick on her again, you’ll regret it.”
Nova’s eyes widened. She couldn’t help but glance at Kael’s sharp, determined jawline. She’d never imagined he’d go this far for her…
Alison’s face turned ashen. She was so furious her features twisted. “You… you… Kael Voss! You’d treat me like this–for her?”
Kael only snapped, “Someone, take my mom upstairs. She’s not feeling well.*
Daisy’s throat went dry. This wasn’t how she’d planned it–she’d thought Nova would at least get whipped for this…
She spoke up weakly, “Kael, Alison is innocent… really…”
Kael flicked a glance at her.
That one look made Daisy’s breath catch in her throat.
Kael said. “Voss Group’s partnership with the Sheltons ends tomorrow. I’ll let you see who’s really clinging to whom–whether it’s the Sheltons using the Vosses, or the other way around.
“Let you see who’s truly unworthy.”
The words were a double entendre–on the surface, a jab at the Shelton company, but beneath it, a direct insult to Daisy.

Nova’s heart skipped a beat, as if time had stopped for a second…..
Daisy bit her lip, humiliated.
In all her life, she’d never been shamed like this–it stung worse than a slap.
Especially in front of Nova.
She wanted to die from embarrassment.
But pride no longer mattered. Her face pale, she begged, “Kael. I’m sorry! Don’t end the partnership because of me!”
If her father found out she’d ruined this, he’d never forgive her.
But Kael had no patience for her tears. He waved a hand, signaling the servants to escort her out.
“Kael, please! I’m really sorry! 111 apologize to Nova–anything!”
Daisy’s eyes were red as she looked at Nova, her gaze desperate–nothing like the arrogant woman she’d been moments ago.
Nova sneered inwardly.
People were always like this. Bold and cruel when hurting others, but cowards when it was their turn to suffer.
“Apologies don’t fix what you did.” Kael said, tightening his grip on Nova’s hand. He shot Daisy a glare. 1 already gave you a chance.”
“Please… I’m so sorry this time…” Daisy sobbed, gasping for breath.
But Kael didn’t spare her another glance. He turned to Nova, his voice softening–so gentle it was hard to believe he was the same man who’d just been ruthless.
“Does it hurt?” He brushed his thumb over her palm, his touch tender and lingering
Nova hesitated, a flicker of confusion in her eyes, then she shook her head.
Daisy felt like she’d been plunged into ice.
Only now did she realize how ruthless Kael could be–he’d destroy a business partnership without a second thought, all for Nova.
How could he be so cruel?
“Ms. Shelton, please.” The servants lifted her off the floor and dragged her out, no mercy in their actions.
Daisy bit her lip so hard it bled, overwhelmed by a sense of defeat she’d never felt before.
“Your hand’s swollen,” Kael said, frowning as he examined her palm. “Didn’t I tell you last time? When this happens, don’t use your hands. Grab something–anything–to defend yourself.”
He looked up at her, his eyes filled with worry, his thumb brushing over her red, tender skin.
Nova’s eyes dimmed. She remembered those words. Last time at the hospital, when Sloane had provoked her and she’d slapped her, Kael had said the same thing–giving her unwavering support.
She’d believed him then…
But she also remembered what happened later–him and Sloane, cozy in that hospital room. him comforting Sloane so gendy…
In that moment, her faith and stubbornness had felt like a joke.

She loved him once, so deeply. But he couldn’t treat her like a fool.
Tears pricked the corners of her eyes, she pulled her hand away gently, her throat tight. “It’s fine. Doesn’t hurt.”
“But it hurts me.” Kael pressed a soft kiss to her palm, his tone firm, no room for argument. “We need to put medicine on it. My girl’s hands are too pretty to get
hurt.”
“It’s unnecessary.” It was overreacting.
Nova bit her lower lip, but she couldn’t argue with him. He pulled her toward the bedroom.
As soon as they walked in, the crisp, cool scent of mint filled her nose.
This was Kael’s childhood bedroom–where he’d lived before college.
Old memories flooded back, making her dizzy. For a second, she was transported back to high school, when Kael had brought her here for the first time. Her nose stung with tears.
“What’s wrong?” Kael noticed her red eyes, his heart lurching.
“Nothing…” Nova’s voice was thick. She looked at his calm, composed face, and her chest ached.
See? She was the only one stuck in the past.
He’d already moved on, already forgotten… forgotten his promises, forgotten the path they’d walked together.
Only she was still clinging to a memory, chasing a shadow.
So stupid.
“Kael,” she said, forcing down the bitterness.
“Hm? What is it?” He looked up at her, then tapped her cheek lightly with his knuckle, smiling. “Why’re you staring at me like that? All spacey.”
Nova’s gaze flickered, uncomfortable. She bit her lip and asked. “Earlier… you talked to Alison like that, and humiliated Daisy. What about the Sheltons? Their
company-”
She’d never expected him to go this far.
“Don’t worry about it.” Kael cut her off.
He knelt down to meet her eyes, his gaze steady and sincere.
‘Didn’t I tell you? With me here, no one can hurt you.
‘My mom means a lot to me… but you mean more.”
Warmth overflowed in his eyes, so intense it made her breath catch.
Nova’s heart stopped for a beat. Even though she didn’t want to admit it, he was the man she’d loved so deeply–for a moment, her heart fluttered.
But reality pulled her back quickly. She managed a bitter smile. “Yeah.”
“Good girl. The snacks are in the cabinet on your left–help yourself. I’ll go get the medicine.” Kael smiled, brushing her cheek with his hand, then turned and
left.
The door clicked shut softly.
Nova hurried to wipe away her tears. She sat quietly for a minute, calming down. She didn’t go for the snacks–she just sat on the bed, waiting.
Her phone rang. Pulling herself together, she saw it was Sam. Afraid it was work–related, she picked it up and headed to find Kael.
As she walked down the hallway-

“Calm down, Mom. I was just joking earlier. You know I had to–Nova was right there.”
That voice. So familiar.
One second, he’d been comforting her; the next, he was saying this. Nova felt like she’d been struck by lightning.
she drifted toward the sound like someone lost in a trance–almost masochistically pausing at the bedroom door.
nside, a figure froze mid–movement, their eyes locking onto hers without warning. The air in the room seemed to be still. For a heartbeat, neither spoke. Then, he figure’s breath hitched, and their chest gave a sharp, panicked thud.
Jova’s hands curled into fists. They stared at each other across the distance, and her heart felt like it had plummeted into an ice cave.
Incontrollable rage surged through her, clouding her judgment. She pushed the door open.
