Chapter 59 Nova Confronted Kael About InfidelityÂ
I thought you’d really lost your mind–choosing to defend Nova over your own mother.”Â
Alison curled her lips into a smirk. Through the narrow crack of the door, she watched Nova’s dazed, devastated figure, and a cold satisfaction finally settled inÂ
her chestÂ
Kael scoffed, pushing up his sleeve to check his watch, his voice flat. “Enough. You know exactly what the situation was. I had to put on a show for Nova–surface courtesy, nothing more.Â
Your credit cards stay active, and the vineyard’s still yours to profit from.”Â
Surface courtesy?Â
Those few words cut through Nova like a blade, leaving her bleeding inside.Â
She bit her lip so hard it nearly split, forcing back a sob. Her hand, which had been reaching to push the door open, froze mid–air before curling into a tight fist.Â
So that’s what it was. When he’d stood up to Alison for her earlier–when he’d defended her–it had all been an act. A lie to fool her.Â
All that “preferential treatment,” all that “protection” that had made her heart flutter… just a facade to deceive her.Â
He really didn’t care. Not about her pride, not about her grievances…Â
A crushing pain squeezed Nova’s chest, sharp and unrelenting.Â
She’d even planned to talk to him later–beg him not to ruin the Vosses‘ relationships with the Sheltons or his own mother because of her.Â
But it turned out he’d been lying to her from the start.Â
And she’d been stupid enough to fall for it–stupid enough to think he’d actually cared.Â
Tears blurred Nova’s vision. Her eyes were red and puffy as she stared at Kael’s cold, indifferent back.Â
She wiped the tears away roughly, fleeing back to the bedroom like a humiliated clown.Â
Inside the bedroom, Alison let out a huff of amusement, her mood lifting slightly. “Good. At least you still have a conscience–still remember you have aÂ
mother. I didn’t raise you for nothing…”Â
Kael’s eyes darkened. “Don’t get too comfortable.”Â
Alison frowned. “What’s that supposed to mean?”Â
Kael shot her a glare–cold, sharp, and warning. Alison’s heart skipped a beat.Â
He smoothed the creases in his sleeve, his voice icy. “I said this was your last warning. I barely held back from punishing you for real. Do it again—”Â
He didn’t finish, but the menace in his eyes made Alison’s blood run cold.Â
“Also,” Kael continued, standing up to adjust his suit–impeccably elegant, yet his tone remained frigid –” stop calling Nova. I don’t want a repeat of last night. No matter how big or small the issue, call me directly.”Â
Alison froze.Â
He was clearly referencing last night–when she’d bombarded Nova with calls without a second thought.Â

Shest called repeatedly, only to be ignored, and had assumed Nova was finally daring to defy her. She’d never guessed Nova would turn around and tell RaciÂ
Altern let out a bitter laugh irritation flaring “She’s the one who brought scandal to the Voss family–embarrassed us all! As her elder, what’s wrong with me acking her to answer for it? Coward that she is, she runs to you to tattle Instead of facing me directly!”Â
Karls frown deepened, his expression hardening He’d never tolerated anyone speaking ill of Nova–not even his own mother.Â
He fixed Alison with a cold stare. You’re just being petty. Nova has never said a bad word about you to me. It’s you who keeps badmouthing her behind herÂ
back.Â
Reflect on your own actions. I don’t want to hear another word against her.”Â
The natural authority in his voice made Alison nervous. She bit back her anger, holding her tongue–for now. It didn’t matter anyway. Kael and Nova’s time together was running out.Â
Seeing that she’d finally quieted down, Kael shifted the subject, his brow furrowed. “What about that document in the dining room? You haven’t been involved in the company’s affairs for years. What was it for?”Â
The document?Â
Why is he asking about that all of a sudden? Has he found out something?Â
Alison’s eyes flickered with panic. She avoided his gaze, fumbling for an excuse. “Your grandparents are moving to France for their retirement. They want to buy a vineyard–something to keep them busy, you know how they love that sort of thing. They asked me to find one, and I finally found a good spot. We’re just finalizing the contract.”Â
Kael narrowed his eyes, his expression unreadable. Then, he curled his lips into a faint smile. “Is that right?”Â
“Of course! What else would it be? I couldn’t care less about the group’s trivial matters!” Alison hurried to change the subject, afraid she’d slip up if she talked more. “Now goon–you’re wasting time.”Â
Kael’s eyes were unreadable. It was impossible to tell if he believed her. He just nodded faintly. “Fine. When you take the contract to my grandparents later, tellÂ
them I said hello.”Â
Alison’s heart skipped a beat. She forced a calm expression, waving him off. “Get out of here already.”Â
Kael said nothing more. He left to find the butler for the medicine, pulling out his phone as he went to text Sam.Â
He had a feeling his mother was hiding something from him.Â
Nova stumbled back to the bedroom.Â
The crisp mint scent that had once comforted her now felt like a knife to her heart.Â
She sank to the floor, letting the waves of pain wash over her before slowly pulling herself up.Â
Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted something under the bed. Her gaze froze.Â
She knelt down and dragged out an old box.Â
Inside were stacks of sketchbooks–covered in dust, the paper yellowed with age.Â
A sharp pain twisted Nova’s chest. She opened one sketchbook, as if punishing herself.Â
Every page was filled with drawings of her: sleeping soundly, focused in class, daydreaming by the window… all drawn by Kael.Â
Nova held her breath, fighting back tears–but they still fell, splattering onto the yellowed paper.Â
“I heard you like art. Could you… maybe try liking me too?”Â
She still remembered that day clearly. The shy, awkward boy from high school had stopped her after class, shoving a sketchbook into her hands before runningÂ

As she wipril the dust from the sketchbook, she realized how foolish she’d been.Â
It wasn’t Kael who was heartlessÂ
It was herÂ
Foolish enough to hand him her whole heart, letting him hurt her over and over again.Â
Nova closed her eyes, tears streaming down her cheeks…Â
When Kael returned with the anti swelling ointment, Nova had already put the box away and composed herself. She sat quietly on the bed, her expression calmÂ
“Did you wait long?”Â
The sight of her peaceful face in the sunlight–her eyes still red from crying–made a twinge of guilt stab Kael’s chest. But it faded as quickly as it came.Â
“Not really. I watched some videos. Time flew by.” Nova’s voice was flat, her gaze dim. She avoided looking at him.Â
Kael waited for her to say more. Normally, Nova loved sharing little things with him–even a funny sight on her commute to work.Â
Today, she didn’t seem to want to talk to him at all.Â
A faint sense of loss settled over Kael. He took her hand to apply the ointment, his voice softening. “What videos did you watch? Tell me about them.”Â
Nova stared at his focused face, her mind spinning. She’d loved this man for half her life, but now she could barely recognize him. All that love had turned toÂ
bitterness.Â
She let out a quiet sigh, her voice tight. “A short drama. About a couple who’d been in love for ten years… it ended badly. The girl died, and the guy ended upÂ
with another woman. They even had a child together.”Â
Kael felt a spark of joy–she was talking to him again. “Why? After ten years of love, how could he just let it go? The girl sounds so pitiful.”Â
He thinks the girl is pitiful?Â
But he’d done the same to her.Â
Nova’s brow furrowed in pain. She looked up at him. “Because he cheated on her.”Â
Kael froze. He lifted his head to meet Nova’s eyes, his heart lurching. He was terrified she’d ask the question he’d been dreading.Â
Because he wasn’t innocent either.Â
“Kael, what about you?” Nova said, her voice barely a whisper.Â
It made Karl’s heart slam against his ribs.Â
He suddenly looked up, locking eyes with her cold, distant gaze.Â
Was it his imagination… he saw a flicker of finality in her eyes.Â
