Chapter 7 Who Will Kael Side With?
“Nothing! Ms. Hale’s just joking!“]
Sloane’s face was pale as she cut in, her eyes fixed on Nova’s phone in panic.[]
Nova raised an eyebrow. “Why are you in such a hurry. Ms. Reed? Weren’t you acting all wronged a minute ago? Didn’t you want Lila to apologize to you? Fine then…“}]
Sloane’s heart raced. She didn’t care about pride anymore.[]
“No–It was my fault. I provoked Lila first. I should be the one apologizing. I’m sorry, Lila.[]
“Mr. Voss, this is all on me. Lila did nothing wrong.“[]
Nova let out a soft laugh and turned to Kael.[]
“Sa, Mr. Voss–are you still going to defend her? Choosing to believe an outsider over your own team… that’s really disappointing.]
“If word gets out, it’ll ruin the company’s reputation for sure.“]
She threw back the excuse Kael had used on her earlier, word for word.[]
Kael was left speechless, his face growing awkward.[]
With so many employees watching, he couldn’t argue further.[]
He stepped closer, took Nova’s hand, and forced a smile. “I’m sorry, baby. I acted too quickly without thinking. Thanks for reminding me.“[]
Nova’s expression stayed flat. She pressed her lips together and tried to pull her hand away.[]
Kael felt her coldness and tightened his grip. He shot a sharp look at Sloane behind him.[]
“Ms Reed, you’ve caused trouble at the company time and time again. Nova was lenient last time, but this time, you owe us an explanation. This incident will definitely go
nine–you’ll make a public apology later.“]]
For a celebrity, a public apology was a huge blow to their reputation.[]
Sloane felt wronged and angry, but she knew better than to argue. “I… I understand.“[]
Kael stroked Nova’s palm, his sharp tone softening. “Honey, calm down. I acted impulsively earlier. From now on, I’ll listen to you, okay?“]]
He sounded as docile as a golden retriever. In the past, whenever they fought, a little apology like this would make Nova forgive him.]
But not this time
Nova didn’t smile or reconcile with him like she used to.]
Instead, she pulled her hand free and gave a faint smile. “I believe you.“[]
Her tone was clearly perfunctory.[]
Kael’s chest tightened. He hurried after her. “Nova “[]
Behind them, Sloane watched Kael grovel to Nova, her chest burning with anger []
She stamped her foot.
Just wait! One day, I’ll make Kael leave Nova and beg me to stay
And that photo
She didn’t know if it was real or not, but she had to get it. She couldn’t let Nova hold it over her head.[]
With that thought, she pulled out her phone and sent a text[]
Keel followed Nova into the break room. He told Lila to leave, leaving just the two of them alone.]

Nova ignored him. She poured herself a cup of coffee and focused on her work.
Kael’s heart sank. He cut up a fruit platter, then stayed by her side to help–feeding her fruit, massaging her shoulders, taking care of her every need.]
Nova watched him.]]
Once, this would’ve made her forgive him completely.[
But now, her heart was too broken to mend.
“Enough.” She pushed his hand away, her voice calm. “I’m not angry anymore. Go back to work.”
Kael’s heart sank further. He wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder in an intimate gesture.]]
“Honey, don’t give me the cold shoulder…” he said in an upset tone.]]
Nova closed her eyes. She didn’t have the
nergy to play along. She turned her head and gave his cheek a quick, perfunctory kiss.
“Im really fine. Go be busy.“]
Kael brightened up like a dog who’d gotten a treat. He stroked her cheek.
promised to spend the day with you. You work–I’ll help.”
He was firm. Nova didn’t argue further.]
额
But as they worked side by side, memories of their early days together flooded back.[]
Back when they had no money, Kael refused to ask his family for help. In their hardest times, they’d split a $1 bread.[]
He’d seen her divide the bread into two and gotten teary–eyed, saying, “I’ll never let you suffer like this again.“]
Nova blinked back the stinging in her eyes and bowed her head to keep working.
After a while, Kael’s phone rang suddenly.[]
He glanced at the screen, frowned, and hung up.[]
Nova looked over, confused.[]
He explained, “It’s Trent and the guys. Don’t worry–I promised to stay with you today.“[]
But the phone rang again, persistent, as if it would keep going until he answered.]
“Just take it.” Nova said.[]
Kael obeyed, hitting the answer button.]]
“Kael! Trent’s having a birthday party–why aren’t you here? We’ve got all kinds of fun stuff!”
“C’mon, man! Everyone’s waiting for you!“]]
Kael frowned and cut them off. “I told you–I’m married now. Don’t invite me to this kind of thing. It’s late, and I’m with Nova. I’m hanging up.“]]
“Hey, wait! It’s Trent’s birthday! Ditching us is rude!“[]
“Fine–bring Nova with you! It’ll be boring for her at home!”
Kael still refused. “A birthday party isn’t more important than my wife, I’m hanging up.”
Nova set down her files and spoke softly. “Go. I’ll take a taxi home later.“[]
Kael put down his phone, took her hand, and rubbed it gently. “If you’re not going, I’m not going either. I promised to stay with you.“]
“Nova! Come with Kael! Staying home is so boring!“]
“Yeah, come join us!“[]
The voices on the phone were insistent. Nova was silent for a second, then agreed.]

That night, they went to The Nightclub–Trent had booked an entire floor for the party.
When Kael and Nova walked in, the private room was loud with music and laughter. Several women were there, making the place feel like a scene of debauchery.]
Nova frowned.
Kael pulled her close, turned on the main lights, and shot a cold look at everyone. “Get out.“[]
Trent and the others knew Kael was angry–they knew Nova hated this kind of wild scene.
ne.]
“Everyone out! Now!“]]
The women in revealing clothes left awkwardly.[]
Kael then led Nova to a seat []
Knowing she had a cleanliness quirk, he wiped the sofa with a wet wipe before letting her sit.]
“No smoking. My wife hates the smell.“[]
He took the cigarette from one guy’s hand and tossed it in the trash.]
Damn, Kael–you’re the biggest wife guy in New York. You spoil her so much, it’s making my eyes hurt.”
Tell me about it. He just bought a $700K jewelry set from me a few days ago.”
The guys teased him.[]
My wife–of course I’ll spoil her.“]
Kael picked up a plate of fruit and fed it to Nova, ignoring the others. He focused entirely on her.[]
Nova felt nothing but bitterness.[]
Who would’ve thought this man–who doted on her so much–was a cheater? It was sickeningly ironic.[]
Around 9 PM. Nova made an excuse to leave early, telling them to keep having fun.]
Karl gut up to go with her.[]
Trent and the others tried to stop him. “Let the driver take her home! Stay a little longer–it’s not even midnight yet!”
Karl looked hesitant.
Nova took his arm. Its okay. I can take a taxi. It’s safe. You stay and enjoy.“[
The guys cheered, and Kael finally gave in. “Fine–I’ll walk you out.“[]
Nove nodded
They reached the street, and Kael hailed a taxi. He paid the fare in advance and told the driver to take care of her–every move screamed “thoughtful husband.“[]
The driver couldn’t help but comment “Miss, your husband is so good to you. Good men like him are hard to find these days.“]
Nova pressed her lips together. A lump formed in her throat, and she couldn’t say a word.[]
She patted her pocket–realizing she’d left her sunglasses at the club
She apologized to the driver, got out, and went back to get them []
Those sunglasses were a gift from Kael years ago]
He’d had them custom–made because he knew her eyes were sensitive, and she’d worn then for so long that she couldn’t bear to throw them away.]
She’d just stepped out of the taxi when she saw Kael standing at the club entrance, looking around []
Nova started walking toward him, ready to call his name–but before she could, a girl ran over like an eager puppy and threw herself into his arms.[]
“Mrun, Kael! I missed you so much!”
