Chapter 96 Satisfying Torment–Nova Dumped the Cheater 

Nova slowly filled the kettle with water, but she didn’t rush back to the ward. Instead, she wandered downstairs, 

She didn’t want to be around Kael–especially after what had happened with Matt… 

She’d never imagined that the man who had once loved her so deeply would one day openly treat her as a bargaining chip for profit… 

How tragic! 

Tears blurred Nova’s eyes. Her chest felt heavy with pain. She took a deep breath and stepped out of the elevator. 

Unconsciously, her thoughts turned to Corin. She owed him a huge debt of gratitude today. 

“Ms. Hale!” 

Suddenly, a clear female voice called out from behind her. 

Nova froze and turned to look. It was Maya’s agent, Cora Atkins. They’d worked together several times before–they were acquaintances. 

What was she doing at the hospital? 

Cora hurried over, a bag of medicine in her hand. “I thought that back looked like yours, so I called out. I can’t believe it really is you! Weren’t you supposed to meet Mr. Vega to discuss Maya’s collaboration? What are you doing at the nursing home?” 

Nova had just been about to ask her the same question. “Why are you here?” 

Cora let out a breath. “My dad broke his leg and is in the hospital. My mom and I have been taking turns looking after him these past few days. We’re going in circles here–by the way, how did the collaboration talk go? I haven’t been able to reach Mr. Vega. Did it fall through?” 

Nova pressed her lips together. She didn’t know how to talk about what had happened with Matt. 

Cora noticed her strange expression and grew anxious. “Did that bastard do something to you?” 

Nova’s eyebrows jumped, and she looked at Cora in surprise.

Cora had a straightforward personality. She cursed angrily. “He actually had the nerve? Does he think he can get away with anything? Even Mr. Voss‘ wife–does he not care about Mr. Voss‘ reputation anymore?” 

The air around them fell silent. 

Nova’s heart ached. She forced a bitter smile, unable to admit that Kael had been the one to set this up. 

It was too humiliating. 

“No, nothing happened,” she said hoarsely. She didn’t want to share this embarrassing incident with anyone else. 

Hearing this, Cora finally calmed down a little. She rubbed her temples, looking exhausted. “Good. I knew he wouldn’t dare. Actually, Mr. Voss originally assigned me to talk to you about the collaboration.” 

Nova froze for a moment. 

Cora explained, “But then that idiot Matt suddenly sent me to handle something urgent. I was in such a hurry that I forgot to tell you. I’m just glad that bastard didn’t harass you. With Mr. Voss around, he wouldn’t dare to overstep.” 

It took Nova a long time to process her words.

So Kael had originally planned for Cora to meet her? Then why had Matt shown up instead? And why had Cora been conveniently sent away… 

Nova clenched her fists. She’d worked in the corporate world for five years–even if she’d been naive, she could see that this had been a setup. 

Cora had other things to do. After exchanging a few more pleasantries with Nova, she left. 

Nova stood rooted to the spot, weighed down by her thoughts. 

She didn’t know how she made it back to the ward–she only felt utterly drained. 

Whether Kael had been involved in Matt’s actions or not, the damage he’d done to her was irreversible. 

Kael had been waiting at the door. When he saw her return, he walked over cautiously and took the kettle from her hand. 

He studied her face, his voice tense with anxiety. “Nova, there’s something I need to talk to you about…” 

Nova’s expression was cold. She looked at him, calmer than ever before. “Good. I also have something to say to you.” 

With that, she turned and walked toward the fire escape. 

Behind her, Kael’s heart rose to his throat. 

He was terrified that Nova would say she wanted to separate from him–but he knew he had to tell her about this. 

His jaw was tight as he followed her closely. 

The heavy door of the fire escape slammed shut behind them. 

Nova didn’t look at him, her voice cold. “You go first. What is it?” 

Kael looked conflicted. He stepped closer to her, acting like a large dog trying to please its owner, then reached out cautiously to take her hand. “Nova, I know I was wrong today. Whatever you want to do, I’ll listen. Just don’t push me away like this…” 

Nova’s heart ached sharply. 

She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. After everything he’d done, he still had the nerve to ask her not to be cold to him. 

She raised her eyes, her vision blurred with tears. She pushed his hand away. “Stay right there and talk! Don’t come any closer!” 

Kael saw that she was as defensive as a hedgehog. He didn’t dare to step forward again. “Okay, I won’t come closer. Don’t be angry.” 

Nova lowered her eyes, her expression dark. “Speak.” 

Kael hesitated for a long time, then said tentatively, “Nova, I know the online rumors have hurt you a lot. I’ll resolve this as soon as possible. 

“I’ve already told the reporters to hold a press conference tomorrow. We’ll clear up everything then–no one will hurt you anymore.” 

Nova suppressed the bitterness in her eyes and let out a self–deprecating laugh. 

This was always how he was–he’d slap her, then give her a candy to make up for it. 

It made her wonder if the man who had once loved her more than anything–who had never let her suffer the slightest grievance, had just been a 

dream. 

Now, it was time to wake up. 

Kael looked at her, his voice careful. “And… you’ll need to be there too. To help clarify things.”

Kael panicked and stepped forward. He pulled her into his arms, refusing to let go even as she kicked and hit him. “Baby, listen to me.” 

He lowered his head and kissed the top of her hair, his voice filled with heartache and guilt–yet he still had to say it. “The online backlash is too strong right now. It’s affecting the family and the company.” 

Nova closed her eyes in pain. Tears streamed down her face. She already knew what he was going to say next… So in the end, he’d chosen to sacrifice her to protect the company. 

“You need to go there and explain,” Kael whispered, kissing the tears from the corners of her eyes. His voice was hoarse with regret. “I’m sorry, my love. I know this is hard for you… But I promise, this will be the last time. 

“Okay?” 

These simple words felt like needles piercing Nova’s heart. 

Suddenly, she stopped struggling. 

She grabbed the corner of Kael’s suit jacket and burst into tears–desperate and wronged, for the last time. 

In her twenty–six years of life, Nova had always been outstanding–whether in school or at work. She’d never imagined that one day, she’d have to clarify such an embarrassing scandal… and that the scandal would be about her own husband. 

How humiliating! 

He knew how strong her pride was. Yet he’d shattered the pride she’d held onto for twenty–six years. 

Kael hugged her tightly, his voice filled with guilt. “I’m sorry…” 

Nova’s eyes were red. She didn’t want to hear these meaningless words. She pushed him away. 

“Fine, I’ll do it. But on one condition. We live separately from now on. Don’t come to me unless I allow it.” 

In fourteen days, she would be able to leave. 

They would never see each other again. 

All he would have left was a death certificate. 

Kael froze for a second. Then he frowned in agony. He grabbed her shoulders tightly, his voice trembling. “Nova, you’re saying this out of anger, right? I know you are–you have to be…” 

Nova pushed his hands away coldly. “Kael, I’m not joking. Let’s separate.” 

Something in Kael’s eyes seemed to shatter. His eyes widened, as if he were trapped in a painful struggle. 

Choose her, or choose the company? 

Nova let out a bitter laugh. The moment he hesitated, her heart had already fallen into the abyss. 

Once, Kael had always chosen her first. 

He would have given up anything for her–except her. 

When they’d gotten married, he’d been willing to fall out with his entire family rather than let her go. 

Later, when a business partner had harassed her, he’d given up the project and offended the client–all to defend her and beat up that man.

He clenched his fists tightly, his knuckles white, and his eyes glistened with suppressed redness, brimming with pain he could barely hold back. 

Nova’s whole body trembled with cold, but she forced herself to stay steady. 

Before leaving, she whispered softly, “After the press conference tomorrow, move out of my place…” 

My place. 

Move out. 

These short phrases cut into Kael’s heart like a knife, leaving a raw, throbbing ache. 

He bit down hard on his lower lip, saying nothing. 

Nova pushed open the door and walked away without a second glance. She knew he had heard every word.
