The whole place went dead quiet. 

I looked up slowly, and in our silent stare-down, he saw the cold death in my eyes. His heart skipped a beat. 

He softened his voice. “Babe, I fucked up. I can explain this whole thing. You wanna punish me? Go for it. But Carmen’s innocent, okay? She… she’s carrying my baby!” 

Carmen? 

This was the woman he said he hated so much he wanted to kill her for revenge. 

I stared straight into his eyes. “What about OUR baby? Did he die for nothing?” 

He looked like he’d rehearsed this shit for hours. 

“Carmen promised me she’d have this baby to replace the one we lost. You can raise it, boy or girl. Everything I own will go to this kid. We’ll be a happy family of three.” 

That piece of shit logic left me speechless for a hot second before I started laughing. 

“You LIE to me, knock up the psycho who KILLED my baby, and now you want me to raise your bastard? And you think you’re doing me a FAVOR?” 

“Aren’t you scared our dead baby’s gonna come for you in your sleep?” 

Garrett’s face went cold. “What bastard? This is OUR child too. When did you become such a bitter bitch? Can’t even accept an innocent kid. You’re disappointing me.” 

When I didn’t respond, he sighed. “Maya, just let it go, alright? Carmen can see the kid like… maybe five times a week? Come on, she’s been through hell already!” 

I laughed until I cried, then SLAPPED him across the face as hard as I could. 

“Let her go? IN YOUR FUCKING DREAMS!” 

I pointed at the highest bidder. “Mr. Lee, Carmen’s all yours. Have fun.” 

Lee looked nervous at first, but I reminded him, “You don’t want her, I’m not refunding your bid.” 

He gritted his teeth and dragged Carmen toward the back room. 

Garrett started moving, but I warned him from behind. “Take one more step and we’re DONE, Garrett.” 

His whole body went stiff, his eyes practically bleeding. 

Suddenly, Carmen’s screams came from the back room. “Garrett, save me… AHHFILE…..” 

Garrett completely lost it, charging into that room like a rabid animal.

A bunch of bodyguards rushed in and dragged out Lee, covered in blood.

Garrett went full psycho, kicking Lee in the balls over and over again. 

Finally, Carmen’s crying brought him back to reality. 

He picked her up and walked right past me, bumping my shoulder. 

That’s when Carmen, safe in his arms, looked up and smirked at me with pure evil. 

“Maya, you really think you’re hot shit? Garrett’s always loved ME the most! You don’t even know, do you? After I beat your little bastard out of you, Garrett personally had your uterus transplanted into ME…” 

“SHUT UP.” Garrett’s face changed completely, panic in his eyes as he looked at me. 

But Carmen just laughed harder. “You’re fucking worthless now. Can’t even pop out babies anymore. EVER.” 

The air went deadly quiet. 

I felt like I’d been struck by lightning, ears ringing, brain completely blank. 

No wonder I felt so weird after the procedure. 

Turns out the guy I’d loved for six years personally destroyed any chance I had of being a mom-all for the bitch who killed our baby. 

My heart felt like it was being shredded alive. Every breath was torture as I doubled over in pain. 

Garrett looked guilty and worried, starting toward me, but Carmen went limp in his arms. “Garrett… oh God, my belly… is the baby 

kay…?” 

The second he heard “baby,” that little bit of concern for me vanished. He didn’t look back once as he carried her out. 

Watching him disappear, the last bit of warmth in my heart died completely.
