Chapter 627
Nix, I called to my wolf. I attacked without mercy, moving from wolf to the next as soon as I had killed the one in my jaws. The surrounding bodies grew into a morbid pile.
Yeah? She was standing ready.
Is Megan back to normal? I questioned as I attacked the next brave wolf. My teeth sank into her shoulder, and I whipped my head back and forth, tearing the flesh away in a hunk. I spit it out before I lunged again, sinking my teeth around her neck, and I shook again. The crack was loud, and the wolf went limp. I dropped her and spun as I felt the air move behind our group. I leapt over the two women I was protecting and spun. I landed on the back of a big male. He snapped at me, and we both saw the moons at the same time.
“Daddy!” Toya screamed as I dropped down.
((
“Sorry, Roderick.” I bumped his shoulder as I moved to protect the trio. Another wolf circled, and he growled. Check your mate. I will handle this mutt.” The grey wolf tried to sneak up behind us, and I pushed up from the ground, hopping over the charging wolf and landing behind him. He was snapping at Roderick’s hind leg, but I grabbed his first. I braced my legs and whipped my body, releasing the wolf when he was in midair, sending him spinning back into the crowd.
I looked around and realized there was a giant space between us and the next attacking wolf. We had earned a little breathing space.
Megan is completely fine now, if not a little ashamed. Nix sounded amused as she watched my other wolf’s pace.
So stupid, how did I not notice? Megan shook her head.
“Enough,” I called out, and Toya’s family turned to me. “Not you. My wolves.” I smiled, and my tongue lolled out the side of my snout. “Nix, come up here with me. Megan was right about one thing. We need to work more on our magic and attack. If I lose focus while I’m searching for a spell, then you can keep attacking. Sounds like a plan?”
Nix pushed forward, and I felt our souls weave together. Let’s do this. She was all for my plan, and I smiled again. I trotted over to my friend.
“How’s your mom?”
Toya blew out a breath. “Not great.” She was still limping, but at least she could put her foot down now. “The bone is still sticking out, and her leg is probably healing wrong.‘
))
I turned to her and saw Toya was right. I laid down on my belly and offered a solution. “Do you want me to help?”
Toya’s mother looked at me, confused. “You can help?”
I nodded. “It’s going to hurt like a motherfucker, but I can get you back on your feet. You will probably still limp for at least an hour, but we can get moving.”
She looked at her mate and then back at me. “Do it.”
I shifted before she could change her mind. I grabbed a thick branch from the ground. “Bite down on this.” I shoved it into her mouth before she could decide for herself. I looked at Roderick. “Please don’t bite me.” He snorted but nodded. I grabbed her back leg and pulled it straight, earning a howl of pain. Then, I used my finger

to push the bone back under the skin. She snapped the stick in a second, and Roderick had to step between us so her wolf didn’t lunge at me. “Toya, I need you.”
She was at my side in a second. “What can I do?”
I wrapped my blood–soaked hand in her fur. “I need you to be the bridge between me and your mom.” She understood instantly, and Urbi ran out of the trees.
Get on my back. She crouched down, waiting.
Nix… I pulled back, and felt Nix push forward, shifting back into her wolf form.
“Go.” She pushed me gently toward Urbi. “I will watch over here.”
I nodded and then pulled back through the barrier. I watched Megan, who was waiting patiently for me next to Urbi. Megan rubbed against my side. What can I do?
I ran my hands through her coat. Send me power when I need it. And for the love of the Goddess, keep yourself safe. I kissed her snout before jumping on Urbi’s back. Let’s go.
Hang on. Her chocolatey voice called back to me, and I sunk my fingers deep into her neck. Then she took off, weaving through the trees in mine, and then her sanctuary. When we got to the sand, the sun blasted me with heat.
I forget you have this in your mind. I tilted my head back and soaked in the sun.
Just wait until you see my mom’s. She ran for another minute, and the sun disappeared into the darkest night. This is her sanctuary.
I stared up into the vast sea of stars; the Milky Way shone down at us. This is amazing. She ran past a dune, and a torch lit oasis sprang up in front of us. Holy Goddess.
The moon rose behind the palm trees, and a rich smoke rose from a bonfire by the lake. There was a deep growl from the darkness, and a grey wolf jumped out from behind a tree. Teeth gleamed in the firelight. Who goes there?
