Maybe someday, with much more experience than I have now, I could do it. But for now, that’s what I want. That’s what I need. Christian told me to figure out what I wanted and needed from this relationship and that’s what I want. If Sebastiana can’t agree to that, then things are over almost before they started. She’s not the only one who gets a say in how things progress with the two of us.
“Shane?” Christian says. I look up at him.
“Hmm?”
He raises an eyebrow at me in a way that I’ve become familiar with. I missed something.
“What?” I ask, looking around.
“You want to tell me what’s on your mind? You’ve been staring at the same ledger for thirty minutes. I mean, I know you like finance, but there’s nothing on that page that’s exciting enough to hold your attention for that long.”
I look down, then sigh and push the ledger away from me.
“Just… thinking,” I say. I know how awkward it was for me to see him with my sister. And I realize now how awkward it must have been for him to talk to me after Tiana left last weekend, since we were talking about HIS sister. I don’t want to make things weird between
“You know I’m here if you need me. Even if it is about my sister,” he says.
It’s nice that Christian always seems to understand. You don’t have to explain it to him. He just gets it.
“Yeah, she and I have a lot to discuss tonight,” I tell him.
“Why don’t you shut this down. You’re not getting anything done anyway. It will still be here when you get back to it,” he says.
“I don’t want to neglect my duties,” I tell him.
“You’re not. You worked all day. I’m proud of you. Now, go figure things out with Sebi.”

“Thanks, Christian.”
When I walk out to the dining area, I stop, watching Tiana and Enya as they direct the warriors for dinner.
“T. what are you doing?”
She turns and smiles at me. I feel my stomach tighten. It’s the smile that first made me googly-eyed over her.
“I’m learning how to help with food preparation,” she says proudly. “Go sit. I’ll catch up with you as soon as I’m done. Oh, but don’t eat. I mean, if you don’t already have plans, I thought we could go for a walk and have a moonlight picnic.”
I’m not used to the tentative look that I see on her face. Maybe she’s feeling as unsure about where we are as I am right now.
“I’d like that.”
I get the huge, heart-stopping smile in return.
“I would too! I’ll be with you as soon as we’re done here. I asked for a basket to be prepared. It’s just waiting for us to pick it up,” she says.
“I’ll go grab it while
you finish
up
here.”
When I get the basket, I stand on the side of the room and watch her. I can tell that Enya is helping her, but honestly, she’s doing a great job. Her extroverted nature is well received by the warriors and the omegas. She’s not afraid to show affection or to give positive feedback. She jokes easily with the warriors and teases them about taking them down tomorrow in training.
I realize as I watch her that, while Tiana isn’t expecting to be a Luna, she’d make a really good one.

After leaving Christian, I thankfully ran into Enya.
